Title: The Best Songs Ever Thread
Description: share all your favourites!
Yukari - September 26, 2007 06:13 PM (GMT)
I'm always on the lookout for great songs, so I figured I'd create a thread where we can all share our favourites, and spread their awesomeness. Join in and share yours!
Charlotte Martin - Sweet ChariotI only heard of Charlotte Martin after hearing one of her songs in Simlish on The Sims University, and she's never released anything that I know of in the UK, but she's awesome.
I'm kind of in an Alterna/Indie/Rock mood today, so all the rest are of that genre.
Muse - Supermassive Black HoleMy favourite song from Black Holes and Revelations.
Placebo - DragPlacebo never get the airplay they deserve! I can count on one hand the amount of times I've heard a Placebo song on the radio, or seen one of their videos on TV. This is one of the best songs from their most recent album, Meds.
The Killers - Indie Rock&RollMr. Brightside Mr. Brightside Mr. Brightside. Yes, it's brilliant and anthemic, but what about Indie Rock&Roll? Why does it get no love?
Feeder - Seven Days In The SunLovely and summery and shouty. In the UK we didn't get a summer, but this song cheered me up some. Makes me want a crossdressing friend whose name is Paula too.
Arctic Monkeys - Flourescent Adolescent Their songs are so true to life, and not only that, but I love how the singer, Alex, doesn't alter his accent. Broad Yorkshire, just like me! The Arctic Monkeys come from the same city that I go to university at. /trivia
RuneKnight - September 26, 2007 07:25 PM (GMT)
Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen is pretty awesome, haha. ^_^
Zelda - September 26, 2007 07:43 PM (GMT)
I don't have many mp3 files, so uh. XD; Still, I'll recommend. (Loves to this thread, btw. I need to fill my ipod).
the Gazette - Reila Okay, I'm kind of shocked still that I like a jrock band for serious, but these guys are good. I love this song, and the two guitar solos in the middle of the song are such
love. Ruki really puts himself in this song, it's heartbreaking.
the Gazette - D.L.N This is the live version, only version I could find. But this song is amazing, and sad, and beautiful.
Sadly I can't upload Cursive yet because this site is being a bitch, but I'll link to the lyrics since they're great. The genre is indie rock.
Fairytales Tell Tales This song is beautifully depressing. Nothing gets to me more than Tim shouting near the end, "I don't want to feel anything anymore".
Lament of Pretty Baby There's some debate over whether this song is about abuse (a rape) or a broken relationship, but either way it's a great song.
Also check out
Dorothy at Forty and
Art is Hard.
Uhm what else.
I Found a Reason by Cat Power It's a cover, but far, far prettier than the original. Just Chan and her piano. The only downside is it's too short.
405 (acoustic) by Death Cab for Cutie Another pretty song; I like the acoustic version better than the original.
Rilo Kiley - The Good That Won't Come Out Hurray indie rock! And Rilo Kiley's depressing lyrics, but they're good. There's a slightly creepy verse after the main song is over, it sounds like something you'd hear on a carousel ride. o.o;

I think Keane makes some pretty awesome songs. :3

BWHAHAHAHAHA. *RAPES*
Lemme see... This will be a very weird list because I am VERY picky when it comes to bands. I'll post the ones I feel are my all time favorites for now.
Quicksand by Incubus - Album: Light GrenadesThe lyrics are in my signature. While this song is REALLY SHORT, when I first heard it I had to stop it in the middle because I was moved to tears for some weird reason. Brandon Boyd's voice is absolutely amazing. Probably my favorite song ever. It stops quick at the end because it flows into the next song (A Kiss To Send Us Off). This YouTube version doesn't give it justice so either download the song or buy Light Grenades by Incubus, damn you! D:
Suburbia by Matthew Good Band - Album: Beautiful MidnightIgnore the movie since it's fan made, but the song is there! This song has defined about 90% of my life. It's been there through all my hard times and it helped me develop into who I am today. This song has been my favorite since forever and only Quicksand could compare in my opinion. Very meaningful to me in all ways of the word. Matthew Good is a genius and it's a shame he only released one CD in the US. He's Canadian and he's quite proud of it. D: UGH, GAWDZ THIS SONG. <3
99% Of Us Is Failure by Matthew Good - Album: Hospital MusicI can't find it NOT live on YouTube so I won't bother because live recordings are crappy quality usually. D: This one is off of Matt's newest CD. It's mostly slow, but his voice is absolutely amazing during the chorus. The lyrics make it kind of sad yet the song itself gives me an empowered feeling. And it's also the only song ever that I've been able to listen to on repeat for a week straight. Awesome shit right here, yeth.
Here In My Room by Incubus - Album: A Crow Left Of The MurderThe link is to a live performance, but it is excellent quality. Also proves Brandon can sing live performances. <3 If I ever had a love theme, this would be it. It came up during all the "risque" (LOLCHOCOBO) moments of my life. Very beautiful song. This is also one of my favorites EVAR. I saw Brandon live so he is that awesome in person, gawdz. <33 AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME.
Hello Time Bomb by Matthew Good Band - Album: Beautiful MidnightI might as well add a harder rock song. This one also has sentimental value to me. Very fun to listen to with the volume all the way up. I remember listening to this on repeat while fighting through Battle Square in FFVII to get Cloud's Omnislash back in the day, lolz.
The Warmth by Incubus - Album: Make YourselfI'm a sucker for Brandon. D: His hair reduces me to a squeeing fangirl. Just watch the live performance zomg. HIS VOICE IS THAT AWESOME WITHOUT HELP FROM COMPUTERS. TAKE THAT POP FANS.
Anna Molly by Incubus - Album: Light GrenadesI'm sure you all know this one. It's quite lovely. ^_^ I don't like his hair in the video, so thank goodness he grew it out again. It was hot at the concert. <3
Vitamin by Incubus - Album: S.C.I.E.N.C.E.Ignore the video again. Only one I can find with a CD track version. Very awesome energetic song, especially live. D: <333
I'll post more later. Maybe some that aren't Incubus or Matt Good. :lmao: Zomg, Placebo and Muse. <3

Keldea, I planed to play all music you share but was captured by Mattew Good's voice. The beginning tune of Suburbia gives me goosebumps(know not how to react), his voice makes my ears bleed though I have no idea what he's singing(I'm searching for the lyrics right now)...you said he only publishes one album..(*sign) seems like no chance to get that album... It's so....soul-touchingly beautiful, I'll have it as my bed time music later~ :)
thanks for sharing!!(*runs to hear all)
Nevi - September 29, 2007 08:04 PM (GMT)
Gawd, my music is way older than most here.
Some current favorites.
The Cruel War by Chad and Jill Stuart
Chad Stuart of Chad & Jeremy records with his wife in 1965 whilst Jeremy is off being an actor.
I really like their version of this song, even more than the original Peter Paul and Mary version.
I'm The Urban Spaceman by The Bonzo Dog Dooh-Dah Band.
Bonzo Dog is always fun and this song from 1969 is my favorite of all their songs.
Pictures Of Matchstick Men by Status Quo
This song from 1968 is amazing and lots of fun to listen to. Most people may remember it from Ozzy Osbourne and Type O Negative's cover in Howard Stern's movie.
Rain by The Beatles
The Beatles in 1966, what more can I say? (Poor Paul has a chipped front tooth in this video. I feel so bad for him.)
Woman by Peter & Gordon
Peter & Gordon and their wonderful harmonies in 1966. I love how much Peter Asher looks so much like Austin Powers. It's hilarious!
Kicks by Paul Revere & The Raiders
Another song from 1966. This song is unusual, being an anti-drug anthem in the 60's. I love Mark Lindsay, I love Paul Revere, I love the Raiders.
Willow Weep For Me by Chad & Jeremy
Chad & Jeremy sing this lovely song in 1964. I'm really disappointed that I missed these guys when they were in Tampa this Thursday.
Time Of The Season by The Zombies
The Zombies in 1968! Ever wonder where the term "Who's your daddy?" came from? This song.
I Got You Babe by Sonny & Cher
This song needs no introduction.
Hope you enjoyed that blast from the past, but that's what I'm listening to.

When I first heard Suburbia, I felt the same way. ^_^
He only released one CD in the US (the album is called "Beautiful Midnight" and it should be in the rock section of any big CD store) but he has released about 9 more only in Canada. I have them all. ^_^ I love him to death.
If you want more that sound more emotional like Suburbia, I suggest "Advertising on Police Cars", "Flight Recorder From Viking 7",
"Strange Days", "Man of Action", and others. If you want more, let me know! They're all amazing!
Weapon is also an awesome song. He won a lot of awards for that one too. ^_^
I love a lot of his other songs just as much as the ones I mentioned, but I don't have enough time to add them all here.
Scott - September 29, 2007 08:07 PM (GMT)
First off, Yukari, you have a great taste in music :D Secondly, I know who my favourite bands are, but picking my favourite songs by them is incredibly difficult. I'll give it a shot!
A Favor House Atlantic by Coheed and Cambria - This song just cheers me up no matter how down I feel. The chorus is so catchy, the video is amusing, and it is one of the best songs off of their
In Keeping Secrets... album.
New Born by Muse - It is nigh impossible for me to choose a Muse song which I think is my favourite, but this is certainly one of the standouts because of the feeling I got experiencing this song live in concert. It is simply an amazing song, just like every other Muse track.
No Cars Go by The Arcade Fire - Again, it is impossible to pick a favourite, but since No Cars Go was the song that introduced me to AF, I figured I had to post it. They were the soundtrack to my Summer, never off of my CD player so this song will always remind me of the Summer of 2007.
darkmoonlitdreamer - September 30, 2007 02:11 AM (GMT)
In His Eyes - Jekyll & Hyde: This song is just beautiful. It's from the musical version of
Jekyll & Hyde. Basically it's a song between the two female leads, Emma and Lucy. Emma is in love with Dr. Jekyll and is his fiancee, while Lucy is the neighborhood whore who has fallen in love with Edward Hyde, Dr. Jekyll's other half. Both of them are basically in love with the same man, unfortuantely Hyde kills Lucy (I like her more than Emma). Anyway, I actually found an AMV that uses FF7 in this song between Tifa and Aerith. The only thing I resent is Aerith being Lucy, the whore. But Lucy's character is so wonderful so I'm not too mad... The Clerith parts are cuuuuuute. Though I feel there IS some hidden meaning behind this... If this isn't allowed I promise I'll remove it.

Oh, gosh, you all make me squee. :lmao:
ZELDAAA. REILA. IS. LOVE. D: <33333 And so is DLN. >w<
CG: You already know how much I adore all the bands you adore, so there's no need for words from me. :lmao:
I honestly don't know what to contribute right now, but I'll think about it! :fangirl:
True Serenity - September 30, 2007 07:44 AM (GMT)
This thread is totally off the chain. :hyper:
Yukari, I LOVELOVELOVE "Supermassive Black Hole" (I was addicted to that song for a looong time) and the Arctic Monkeys. Ack! <3 I hug you. :huggle:
And Zeldaaa~ I pretty much obsess over your songs as well! *0.0* Reila and DCFC... oh man oh man. ~love~ You have awesome taste. ;o) <3 My two most fave songs from DCFC are "Photobooth" and "Lightness". They're so awesome, and it's their band that my one and only band t-shirt is of. Their lyrics can confuse me sometimes/at first, but when I listen to them more and more I get my own interpretation and it's just all beautiful. So deep, they are.
Kaldea! INCUBUS! OMFG I'm speechless about all their songs, and "Here In My Room" (very hypnotizing)--that was totally my favorite song before. I remember I played it nonstop everyday, so whenever I listen to that song, not only do I feel good since it's such an awesome song, but it also defines some "personal" time period of my life in which I played it the most. Well, it wasn't "risque" (LOL) but I was blooming different/unique feelings at the time. "Stellar", "Southern Girl", "I Miss You", "Anna Molly" and etc. <3 Also my favorite songs. They always have beautiful lyrics and their music is always refreshing.
All my cousins and I fancy Brandon Boyd too. x)Some tracks of mine:
*"Let Go" - Frou FrouOkay, I couldn't find the official video for the song (if there is one), so I just gave a link to a Final Fantasy AMV that uses the track. ^^; I hope that's alright. Anyway, I've always loved this song from the first time I heard it on the
Garden State OST. There's always some feeling I convey out of it... it's beautiful, actually. It makes me feel so motivated and, for some reason, understood and independent. The music is amazing--very rising and beautiful in the beginning, then quite upbeat. Imogen Heap's voice is so lovely. <33 ~loves her~ There are too many tracks from Frou Frou that are my complete life favorites for real.
*"Breathe In" - Frou FrouThis song is just. Amazing. (and
"It's Good To Be in Love", same artist! It sounds kinda different from the original though. The chorus. But oh well, it's all good. ^_^ Imogen Heap's voice is so unique and breathe-y. <3)
*"Forget December" - Something CorporateI LOVE THIS BAND! <3 WO-HO. (Harry Potter AMV btw, since there's no official video for this song as well. HP + SoCo = heartheart) This song, along with
"Ruthless", "Konstantine" (a personal? 9-minute song with him singing over piano
that kinda remind me of Cleris),
"Bruised" (this song makes me cry! But I liked the original better, this one's just the remix. Also, this is the same lead singer of Something Corporate, but he also has another/new band called Jack's Mannequin) and a few more, is one of those songs that I can't pass up on my iPod. <3 I lovelovelove everything about it. SoCo, I love you. I listen to you all the time.
*"Eclipse ft. Substantial" - NujabesI wasn't much of a "fan" of hip-hop until I heard Nujabes. (Sun Jeba - the name of the Japanese producer. That's pretty sick. 8-]) They make the genre so deep, and I feel that it's artists like them that save it from sinking. Mainstream "hip-hop" is horrifically destructive to the soul while the underground soul music from Nujabes heals, rises, and keeps it together. I love them, I really do. Their music and rap is truly enlightening and inspiring. And NO, none of their raps are about shakin' ass and blowing trees. I basically have all of their songs on my iPod by coincidence! (They also have a song called "Flowers" where there's piano playing happily and dramatically with a woman only singing "
Flowerrrs!" Oh yeah. :aeris: "Aruarian Dance" is another favorite too, my gawd.)
This song makes me really sad to be honest. :/ Just listening to it... the piano alone sets off a tragic-like mood already. A really beautiful song. The message... awww. I really, really hope you take the chance to listen to it. Also Shing02's
Luv Sic pt.2 -- ho shiz, I lovelovelove the beat and flow. The music is extremely dreamy. The vid provided also shows the lyrics while it plays. AWESOME. One of my all-time faves as well! o:
And I have so many others... I hope to post more on this thread later on. <3 Thank you for your ingenious, Yukari!! :huggle:
Tifa Lockheart - September 30, 2007 12:22 PM (GMT)
Kaldea>> I knew it! You're an Incubus fan! ^_^' Your signature prior to the one you're using now has Brandon Boyd's art. :fangirl: Heheh. ^_^'
I love Incubus, too, but most of them were already mentioned by Kaldea so... I'll just share those best songs I've ever heard that are not on the list yet.
my picks are...
Silverchair - Miss You Love - This is actually the song that made me love Silverchair.
Duran Duran - Save A Prayer - It's from the 80's but it's one of the songs I love to play bass for.
Interpol - Slow Hands - I don't really know how to explain why I love this song but I'm challenged by it when I'm playing its bass.
Hole - Malibu - One of the songs my band loves to cover. I think this is one of the best songs I've ever heard since the song is very catchy. This song made me appreciate Hole more... and Kurt Cobain.
Incubus - Admiration - This isn't the music video of the song but I just provided the link so you can listen to it. From the soundtrack of Stealth, this is one of the best songs from Incubus because of its poetic lyrics and the way Brandon Boyd sang it. I also find the bridge very haunting.
L'arc-en-Ciel - Kasou - The song haunts me.
Stone Temple Pilots - Interstate Love Song - The most beautiful break-up song next to Jeff Buckley's Last Goodbye. I get sad after listening to it but hey, I think it's still the best! ^_^'
Jeff Buckley - Last Goodbye - And yet another sad yet perfect break-up song. The fact that Jeff Buckley is dead makes it creepy for me whenever I reach the end of the song... but I still love it.
Shawn Colvin - Sunny Came Home - very symbolic lyrics and a haunting melody.
Fuel - Hemorrhage (In My Hands) - This song has a strong impact on me because I thought it was powerful. Furthermore, I've associated this song with Sephiroth because one time, while I was gathering images of him, it was the song constantly playing on my winamp.
Melissa Auf Der Maur - Real A Lie - It simply rocks. She's of the best female rockers ever.
A Perfect Circle - 3 Libras - I can very much relate to this song. It's rather painful but hey, it's okay because the song is beautiful.
Don McLean - American Pie - This isn't the official music video but what the heck. The song is telling a nice story, like, the history of music from the singer's point of view.
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit - The anthem of the youth of the 90's. It just screams every angst the youth wants to express to the older people who wouldn't listen to their needs or something.
Rampqueen - Tala - One of the songs closest to my heart because... the lead singer of this band is the boy who broke my heart. Seriously. Anyway, his band is one of the now-defunct local indie bands in the Philippines. He left the band and everything started to fall apart. He wrote the song.
Yukari - September 30, 2007 04:08 PM (GMT)
RuneKnight, Bohemian Rhapsody's come out on top of so many polls for best song ever! I love it too, but my favourite Queen songs are 'Don't Stop Me Now' and, purely for the video and memories of my brother and his friend re-enacting it with the hoover, 'I Want To Break Free'.
Thank you for those mp3s, Zelda! They were both awesome, 'Reila' especially. I think I've got a new J-Rock band's tracks to scour the intarwebs for now. The last band I did that for were Alice Nine. Death Cab and Cursive are both love. Oh, and I found a Cat Power cover of Wonderwall, which I really liked! It's a shame it's a radio recording though.
CG, I was hoping for Incubus song recs from you! I've only ever heard 'Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song)', but Brandon's voice is droolworthy enough for me to want to hear more. It helps that the lyrics are worth listening to too.
Nevi, I enjoyed that blast from the past! I grew up listening to the 'Quo and the Beatles, (my Dad played them to death) so it made me smile to see them both on your list.
Thanks, Scott! I think it comes from having an older brother who likes to blast out alterna music. New Born is a brilliant song, I love Hysteria as well.
...Ho shiz, speaking of that brother, he wants to use the computer - I'll finish this post later.
EDIT: Time to finish up!
TS: :huggle: I now have Frou Frou songs because of j00! *is listening to Breathe In right now* And Forget December is yummy.
Lynn - September 30, 2007 04:28 PM (GMT)
*meekly* Oh man, um, I only have one song I can think of sharing. XD
Rock Me Amadeus by falcoThis was a random download off another website, but it was worth it! There's just something inherently awesome about linking classical with rock, but that could just be me.
*goes to raid everyone else's lists* I need more songs dammit, 99% of my Winamp is game soundtracks. XDDD

...which brings my wonderfully to my favourite band - Nightwish.
The Phantom of the Opera by Nightwish - Really, I can't pick one song, but this is a good example of linking classical with rock. Tarja's voice is outstanding (shame they sacked her, but their new singer is equally as awesome) and their sound as a whole is so epic. They sing about fantasy tales which just so appeals to me. Ever Dream is another really good song by them.
Hyper-Ballad - September 30, 2007 08:50 PM (GMT)
Oh
YAY! :woot:
~abuses thread right away~
Strangely, a lot of this stuff is very female-centric. I'll have to fix that later and add more guy music to the list to even things out. There's not much variety I'm afraid, but I'm just not in that mood right now. I guess I wouldn't consider these the best songs ever to anyone but me, but I hope you guys appreciate them.
Aikea Guinea - Cocteau Twins. How can anyone hear this song and not love life? I just don't know. Amazing vocals, and a chorus that just twists me to pieces it's so beautiful. And like so many Cocteaus songs it's astoundingly beautiful without being serious or depressing. I can't imagine singing it without a smile on my face. So many groups and singers seem to think that the only way you can make something meaningful or lovely without giving up all sense of fun or enjoyment of what they're doing, but that's so far from true of this band and this song.
Cherry-coloured funk - Cocteau Twins. This song just
melts me every single time I hear it. I could be in the worst mood possible and this song just floats all my worries away and untangles me. It's light, it's fun, it's great for lying in the sun on a hot day, and great for cuddling up indoors. It's so surreal and beautiful. It's warm, delicate and just amazingly put-together.
Cloudbusting - Kate Bush. Knowing that it's based on a real event makes it even more incredible how sensitively-written this song is. I originally wanted to share more of Kate's dark stuff with everyone, but this is too brilliant and beautiful to ignore. Again, it's such an originally-constructed song and it took me several listens to really appreciate it, and now I can't get enough of it. The music video is lovely too.
Diamonds and Rust - Joan Baez. In my opinion, the most amazing, perfect and unique "memories of an ex" song out there. The mix of fondness and poignancy gets to me every time. It has so much truth and realism in it as well as a sense of genuine emotion. Not depressing and not uplifting either but full of the confusions and regrets and good times of the past.
East Hastings - God Speed You, Black Emperor! Anyone who's seen "28 Days Later" will know why this is so great. Amazing music, it really takes you with it.
Fifty-fifty clown - Cocteau Twins. Expect a lot of Cocteau Twins material here, btw - they've been my favourite band for years. And this song is one of many big reasons why. It's moody and beautiful. Liz Fraser's vocals here are simply wonderful, and the song really wrings me emotionally without needing a single comprehensible lyric. It's an example of really great and unique
music where you can find meaning without the lyrics having to make any sense at all. It just transports you into another world and is the opposite of how shallow and meaningless some music can be today.
Ghost Love Score - Nightwish. Oh God, why can't more people make music like this? I can't praise it highly enough. It's a dark masterpiece and I adore it. It's so overblown, dark, and deliciously romantic; everything I love about Nightwish. A truly brave and totally epic piece. And the ending!
WOW, the ending... *dies*
Half-Jack - The Dresden Dolls. I actually love lots of dark stuff, but I think all the pink here just discourgaes it. But not this time! Anyway, this has always been my favourite DD song. Lyrically clever, highly emotional, dosed with insanity, deeply tense, and full of wonderful music. Everything the band does so well is here in this song. I could stay drugged on it for a looooong time.
Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now - The Smiths. Oh Lordy, this used to be my effin'
theme a few years ago! And it's still kinda true. Love it, love it.
Hyperballad - Bjork. GOSH I CAN'T BELIEVE HIIPER WOULD INCLUDE THIS ONE. WHO'D HAVE THUNK IT? :lmao: More seriously, this is just an amazing song. It's so painful and uplifting at the same time and has this rare "broken fairy tale" quality to it. Ah, so much love for Bjork!
I'm So Excited - Le Tigre. Okay, it's definitely not fair to pick this out of all of Le Tigre's stuff, but I couldn't help it. This is such a good cover, and I've always loved it. It deserves to be heard. And it's FUN. More songs should be fun.
Light From A Dead Star - Lush. My love for dream-pop knows no end. This is short, simple, emotional, beautifully put-together and lyrically wonderful. I love how it progresses - it's so well-done and pays off brilliantly.
Nothing Compares 2 U - Sinead O'Connor. Another cover that surpasses the original. Even though this was her one and only big hit, Sinead O'Connor has a ton of
amazing songs under her belt but unfortunately they aren't available on esnips so I can't share them yet. But in the meantime, this is will more than do as it's lovely. What an amazing voice. One of the things I love most about this song is that with just about any other singer the lyrics would seem trite, but Sinead summons up this amazingly convincing sense of grief and anguish. In so many of her songs, she always gives me the impression she's really been there.
Song to the Siren - This Mortal Coil. It's Elizabeth Fraser again, this time singing a cover with This Mortal Coil. I think this song speaks for itself better than I ever could, so please listen.
The Logical Song - Supertramp. A classic, and for a good reason. And not just cause it's one of the catchiest things ever. I think this song has been true for everyone at one point or another.
There Is A Light That Never Goes Out - The Smiths. Quite possibly one of the actual best songs ever, but then again so is just about everything associated with The Smiths and Morrissey. This is just my personal favourite.
Those Eyes, That Mouth - Cocteau Twins. This is such a good song! The music is amazing, so are the vocals, and I can't help feeling like the world is a beautiful place whenever I happen to hear it. It makes me feel very alive. And I swear that whenever I hear this song, I want to grab the nearest person to me, whoever they may be, and pull them into a dance. ~picks Yukari this time and twirls off with her~
Oh, and obviously Journey's awesome
Don't Stop Believin' needs a mention in this thread. Cause I think this may actually be the world's best ever song. It wins and pwns everything by default.
Zelda - September 30, 2007 09:06 PM (GMT)
Glad you liked the picks! xD
CG: You already got me on Incubus, but Matthew Good Band is awesome as well!
I also nabbed some Frou Frou, Muse, The Killers (thanks, Yukari!~) and some of the stuff that was on Tifa Lockheart's list. Still working my way through the others!

YES. I love DCFC for their amazing lyrics. They were the first band I ever fell in love with. I think Plans was a fantastic album.
Death Cab for Cutie - What Sarah Said This is the only song that actually made me cry the first time I listened to it.
The Postal Service - Clark Gable Whee~ DCFC + Rilo Kiley = TPS. This song is so cute and the lyrics are touching.
the Gazette - Taion This was the song/PV that made me fall in love with Gazette. It's stylish and haunting and just...<33 love
John Bulter Trio - What You Want Ignore the vid, but it's the only other ones out there were lives and didn't really do the song justice. The violins are lovely, that's all I've got to say.
Radiohead - Paranoid Android I love Radiohead, but I love this song the most. It's rather eerie (as is the video) but still fantastic.
Cursive - Sierra aslkjg I LOVE THIS SONG. When I first saw them live, this was the song that stuck in my mind long after I left. I was floored when I first heard it.
Also,
this is the video for Dorothy at Forty, I was able to find it. XD So enjoy~

It's one of my favorite albums EVER, and one of the few CDs that I can listen to all the way through without skipping any songs. <3
(Just as a note, I don't download music. I listen to it online. I'm FAR too lazy to download. :lmao: So here's some links to songs on YouTube, because I'm cheap.)
Deceptacon -- Le Tigre There is never a day when this song does not make me feel good. XD
Jig of Life -- Kate BushThis song is completely bizarre, but absolutely entrancing. I love it.
Yellow Cat (slash) Red Cat -- Say AnythingI LOVE this song. The lyrics are amazing. <3 Plus, I'm so sick of hearing about
Wow, I can get Sexual Too. Say Anything has a lot of other amazing songs, too. <_<
We Looked Like Giants -- Death Cab for CutieGod, this song is beautiful. Not one of Death Cab's more popular ones, but it's definitely one of my personal favorites.
Winter -- Tori AmosI cried the first time I heard this song. I LOVE Tori Amos' voice, and this song is so meaningful. I just love it. Honestly, it's probably my absolute favorite song.
Speeding Cars -- Imogen HeapThis song is one of the closest to my heart. The lyrics are just gorgeous. akfjdsfhsd <33
The Calendar Hung Itself -- Bright EyesI love this song. The tune and the lyrics are a perfect fit.
Memories -- Within TemptationKinda different than anything else I've posted, but I love this band to pieces, and this song is incredibly beautiful. And please do watch this video.
Rapture -- Laura VeirsIgnore the horrid quality, but seriously, this song is amazing. The lyrics are just LOVE. jfkdjfs <3
Almost Lover -- A Fine Frenzy  Good Heavens this song is gorgeous. <3
SO YEAH THERE YOU GO. :D
I was going to add
Florescent Adolescent, but Yukari beat me to it. D:< And I was also going to add
Clark Gable, but ZELDA beat me to it. DARN IT.
I also love
Nightwish, Scott! I have
High Hopes, and I listen to it all the time. I also have a SERIOUS weakness for Paramore. <33
EDITWar Of Man -- Neil YoungHe's old skool and hippietastic, but goodness, his music has such a beautiful message. <3

Death Cab for Cutie - What Sarah Said This is the only song that actually made me cry the first time I listened to it. |
I love the words "Love is watching someone die; so who's gonna watch you die?"
More songs:
Dido - White Flag - About not giving up on your feelings for someone. I can still relate to the song one way or another.
Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse of the Heart - The best 80's power ballad, ever. Even though the music video made me laugh towards the end... :P
Hmm... maybe we could have a song-sharing thread or something aside from this one. Or maybe that's not allowed since it's promoting illegal distribution of music? Oh well.
Scott - October 1, 2007 07:50 PM (GMT)
Hyber-Ballad - Eternal love to you for choosing a Nightwish song! Ghost Love Score is completely amazing! The chorus itself is more epic than any other song I know, but the whole 10 minutes of it...just wow. I didn't think they could get more epic...but they somehow did it with their new album Dark Passion Play!
Oddishness - Wow, a Tori Amos fan! I think you've inspired me to add another favourite song! :D
Roosterspur Bridge by Tori Amos. - This is one track on American Doll Posse (along with Velvet Revolution) that keeps grabbing my attention. It seems to have a hint of nostalgia to it for me, but I don't understand why! I just love the song as a whole, Tori Amos is amazing.
The Mariner's Revenge Song by The Decemberists - Everyone loves this song! A tale of two mariners swallowed by a whale and what drove them to such a sticky situation. Complete genius!
Oh what the heck...
Amaranth by Nightwish - When I first heard this song, I listened to it non-stop for 3 hours. When I first heard this song, I had tears in my eyes from thinking, "how can a band be this good?" Nightwish are safely my favourite band ever and this song from their latest album just never fails to amaze me.

Now, we need more guuurl power in this thread, sooo here goes:
Rilo Kiley - Pictures of Success This is the live version, a bit faster than the recording but still a good song. Perfect for anyone who's been afraid of growing up.
Rilo Kiley - I Never Never mind the video, it's the only one that wasn't a live or a cover. This is one of the most heartfelt songs I've ever heard, Jenny really puts it all out there.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Gold Lion This song will get you pumped, it's just that awesome.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps I. LOVE. This song. The lyrics are simple and to the point yet still very moving.
LP - Wasted I first heard this song because it was the theme of South of Nowhere, but I slowly fell in love with it.
Regina Spektor - Apres Moi Anyone who has not heard this song LISTEN TO IT NOW. It's astounding.
Leigh Nash - Ocean Sized Love It's not rock, just a soothing song with a piano, simply lovely.
Le Tigre - Don't Drink Poison Ignore the vid, this song is so catchy~!

Tori Amos - A Sorta Fairytale - One of the most painful break-up songs ever. I love Tori Amos. This song made me appreciate her more. ^_^'
Tori Amos & Maynard James Keenan - Muhammad My Friend - One of the best live duets by two of my favourite artists. Maynard James Keenan is the vocalist of Tool and A Perfect Circle. :winner:

I'd like to add:
This Love, Craig Armstrong featuring Liz Fraser. Looks like an universal song, so pure and simple.

I have no idea who Westlife is but I can't imagine anybody else singing that song. It's just impossible.
Tifa Lockheart - October 4, 2007 08:11 AM (GMT)
Westlife is an Irish boyband. They became popular towards the end of the 90's but when one of them left, the quality of their songs began to deteriorate. Now they're resorting to covering songs. On one of their previous albums, they even tried to sing like Michael Buble or Frank Sinatra. It was horrible, in my opinion. <_<'
And here's another great song!
Stars - Your Ex-Lover Is Dead - I noticed I've been sharing a lot of break-up songs. But no matter how sad they are, they're really beautiful. Just like this one. :P And I think broken-hearted people tend to express themselves better--they can play with their words better compared to those who are too happy and giddy in-love. For this song, well, the lyrics and the melody are both winners. :winner:

Don't worry, maybe if we ignore them, they'll do a Cliff Richard and disappear, only materialising every December to make a bid for the Christmas No.1. *holds j00*
I'd never heard of Echobelly before, but I'm glad you linked them, because that song is
lovely. And you've got me addicted to the Cocteau Twins now, lady! I was wondering where I'd heard the singer's voice before, and it was only when Coral linked 'This Love' that I remembered. I was obsessed with that song when Cruel Intentions came out and I watched it at the cinema. I still love it now, actually.
Love that you linked 'The Logical Song'. Its awesomeness can almost make me forget the terrible, ear bleeding cover that Scooter did of it about five years ago.
I WILL EDIT THIS POST WITH MP3Z WHEN SENDSPACE STOPS BEING A BASTICH. Until then, I have a Youtube vid to link.
Placebo - Running Up That Hill This is the best live performance of the song Placebo have done in my opinion. On the CD, it doesn't have the emotion that this live performance does, and of course, you can't see Brian if you're listening to the CD. I was kinda hesitant to link this, knowing that Hyper really loves Kate Bush's original version, but hopefully she won't kill me for being blasphemous. ;)
EDIT: The bastich-ness seems to be over. It can be mp3s tiem nao.
Stereophonics - DakotaThis was a brilliant comeback song for the Stereophonics, 'cause they hadn't released a really great shouty song since 'The Bartender and the Thief' in my opinion. Dakota is a summery lament on a past love affair, with the 'Phonics sort of going back to their sound from 'Performance and Cocktails', and I heart it.
Mika - Love Today*dum da da dee da dee* ...Yes, Mika. REALLY. Not to everyone's taste, true, but this song's fun and silly and catchy with a 70s feel to it, and it never fails to get me dancing.
Ani DiFranco - GravelLove for Ani DiFranco. I don't know
why this is my favourite song of hers. I think it might be because I can really relate to it, since it's about a guy that can always someone manage to get under your skin, no matter how much of a bastard he is, or how much you know he's not right for you. Check out 'Superhero' and 'Glass House' as well, I love them too.
Vienna Teng - The TowerVienna Teng. Her voice is beautiful. This song really reminded me of Tifa when I first heard it, because I'm an utter dork like that.
Ayumi Hamasaki - JEWELAyumi Hamasaki gets a lot of stick for not being a brilliant singer, but she sounds wonderful on this track. I love the piano intro/outro, and she really puts her heart into this song, I think. The video is beautiful, too! Looks like it cost a few bob.
Hikaru Utada - Keep Tryin' Keep Tryin' has a really cute music video, and the song is adorable too - really uplifting and inspiring. It's made me smile when I'm feeling down on more than a few occasions.
Hikaru Utada - Beautiful WorldThis has No.1 written all over it. Utada's new single, it'd sound right at home on her Ultra Blue album, so if you've heard it and liked it, you'll love this. I love how her sound has evolved over the course of her five albums, she sounds better than ever now. BTW, here's the other track on the new single,
Kiss & Cry.

This Love is definitely a great song! And I'm so pleased you've liked the Cocteau Twins songs I linked to! Getting someone addicted to this band is enough to make my day. :huggle:
So all for my darling Yukari's benefit, for starting this thread
with the power of her sexiness, here's some more of my fave Cocteau Twins songs!
Amelia - Cocteau Twins. This song has such a fairytale princess feel to it in my opinion, and Liz Fraser's singing here is so beautiful, I swear it
hurts. From the Flagstones - Cocteau Twins. Otherworldly without being magical, if that makes any sense. Really lovely song.
Half-Gifts - Cocteau Twins. A painfully honest breakup song. One of the few CT songs with coherent lyrics, and what gorgeous lyrics these are. It's wise, warm and achingly sad at the time and I love it so much. "Intimacy is when / we're in the same place at the same time / dealing honestly with how we feel / and who we really are..." used to be in one of my old sigs, I loved the lines so much. Everything about this song - musically and lyrically - is just so gorgeous, in my opinion.
Lazy Calm - Cocteau Twins. Definitely one of my favourite Cocteaus songs
ever. It's painfully beautiful. Really perfect for listening to when you're drifting off to sleep. The part when the vocal kicks in
kills me liek whoa. The singing here is just so beautiful, I can't get over it.
Musette and Drums - Cocteau Twins. Something totally different now, and
wow. Such a wild, unrestrained and incredible song, it fills me with energy whenever I hear it and sends shivers down me at the same time.
Orange Appled - Cocteau Twins. Such a joyous song! *bounces around listening to it and grabs Yukari for another dance*
Pale Clouded White - Cocteau Twins. Great fantastical song!
Pearly-Dewdrops' Drops - Cocteau Twins. More light and fun musical loveliness.
Persephone - Cocteau Twins. Another hard and dark piece, but gorgeous and atmospheric. And again, Liz's vocal range in this song is astounding.
Pink Orange Red - Cocteau Twins. This is another song that simply melts me into a HB-coloured puddle of blissed-out goo. Robin's guitar and Liz's vocals own my soul here. This song is so strong and rich, and amazingly beautiful. My omg-biazzz is speaking here, but it's like a painting of sound, it's so vivid. *dies*
Serpentskirt - Cocteau Twins. So sensual. The sheer sexiness of this song melts my bones every single time. I totally need some time alone now, or better yet, with some company.
Summerhead - Cocteau Twins. Another energetic and vibrant number - this one makes me want to dance in flowerfields. It's so warm and happy. There's also something really touching, vulnerable and romantic about it too, at least in my opinion.
The Spangle Maker - Cocteau Twins. Another gorgeously-structured song, it drips and oozes - in a good way! The "chorus" is great, as is Liz as she sings it. *unashamed fangirl* There's something so unique about this song. The ending is wonderful.
The Thinner the Air - Cocteau Twins. Wonderfully dark, creepy and cold - a very bleak and beautiful song. *shivers*
Throughout the Dark Months of April and May - Cocteau Twins. Another dark number. This is such atmospheric song - makes me think about exploring a labyrinth or stepping into the underworld. But the ending is so unexpected and joyous - like finding daylight. Really pretty...
Something
extra-special now: Faye Wong and Liz Fraser singing "Serpentskirt" together! Quite possibly one of the best things in the world, as far as music goes. :fangirl:
Serpentskirt - Faye Wong & Elizabeth Fraser.

Here's another song I'd like to recommend. It's downloadable from the link.
Rampqueen - Blank - This is the first song I liked from the band. If you hate prom queens or you were a loser in high school and was victimized by the "popular crowd", this song if for you. Just imagine if the world turned upside down and that prom queen that once ignored you or made fun of you is now the loser. Hurrah. For me it's an angry song that spoke the heart of their vocalist towards somebody who thought that he isn't good enough for the world.

My Medea - Vienna Teng. This is by far and away my favourite VT song! I love the Medea myth and Vienna's twist on it is incredible. The music is great, her singing is great...this song just wows me. This is such a dark, passionate, destructive and hungry song. It's so intense. It's an absolutely tragic song, but it's simple and never goes over the top. Vienna Teng has such a genius touch for her songs.

Lifehouse - Blind - I thought it's a song for a loved one, like someone you had a relationship with but went away... I almost made a CloudxAerith thing related to it. Apparently it's for a father figure. The song makes me feel mellow whenever I'm listening to it, probably because I can relate to it. Lifehouse may sound mainstream to some people but you gotta admit, even mainstream can be as good as this one.
Sheryl Crow - If It Makes You Happy - One of the songs I love to jam or sing along with. In my opinion, it's one of the songs sung by a female that really rocks.
