In Nomura's recent article on the Shinra site, he mentioned the chance that AC may be released in theaters. (See more about the article in this thread: New from Nomura) That same possibility has been mentioned before. Nomura also mentioned in the article on the Shinra site that AC may actually become a full-length feature film, which would raise the chances of it being shown in theatres.

It would actually make a lot of sense for Square to do this. If they release it directly to DVD, the chances are too great that people will download it off the internet rather than purchase it. If they show it in theaters before a release to DVD, then they will probably make a better profit. Making it into a full-length feature movie will also mean that fewer people will download it off the internet. They could actually make a better profit off of the movie that way.

I have a feeling that this is what Square will do. What do you think the chances are? :unsure:

Well there would be no point in first releasing AC on DVD and only after that go for theatres. That would be extremely silly, as we all know. Not many like to go see movies in theatres that they have already seen. So I'm starting to doubt this theatrical release Nomura has been talking about few times, I believe it's nothing more but a little dream he has. He would love people to be able to see it on the big screen but I think that not even Nomura himself is holding his breath. I seriously doubt Square-Enix can afford to invest too much money in AC, having a movie shown in theatres is very expensive.

But then again if they come to the conclusion that they would make a profit by going for the big screen then who knows. Let's remember that AC in the first place wasn't suppose to be what it is now, it looks like they are just expanding and building it more and more with each passing month always adding something new they didn't think they would few months ago.

I know all of us would love to see AC in theatres, but what about the majority of people who have no idea what Final Fantasy is? I think to them it is just a nice looking animated movie, and we know how people can sometimes be when you mentioned the words animated and movie together to them. They want to see those Hollywood stars that make my puke. Bah, I say! Cloud is worth ten of them...

Mm.... Would it be silly if they released DVDs and shown the movie in theatres at the same time? :unsure:

Ah well. I'd like to watch it in theatres since it's cheaper, I guess, but I can't help thinking that I'll miss out on the extras that the DVD probably has.... :blink:

AC in theaters? I don't think that has a very good chance of happening. Although I do agree that they would make more money that way I don't think we will see it go to theaters. I'd rather have it go right to DVD anyway so I don't have to wait any longer for it than I have to. However, if they did put it in theaters I would be the first one in line to see it everyday!

I hope they don't do a theatrical release here in the Philippines because..... I don't like the "jologs" (I don't know the direct translation of that word into english, but they're like the lower-classed social-climbers whatsoever here) to appreciate it because I just think their level of intellect won't be able to grasp the storyline and its significance because they're so mediocre... like the time when the trailer was shown in one of the cosplay events and they were pointing at Tifa and calling her 'RINOA'. My friend and I felt annoyed.

I think it makes PERFECT sense to have a theatrical release! They'd make a TON more money(cuz you know you'd buy the DVD afterwards), pull in new crowds, and make Erin a very VERY happy little girl!

Don't know if anyones said this, and I'm too lazy to look, but it's gonna have a exclusive release in theaters. Now Nomura's gonna shoot me. *Bang*

I kinda hoped that it just comes out on DVD instead of coming out in theaters. Some might not have the time to go down to the theater and watch it but then again a lot people do want it on theater and it would be nice to see it on the big screen, but still wishes for it to just come out on DVD.^^; Oh well, either way is good as long as you get to see it! ::Hopes Cloud and Aerith will be reunited in it::
