Title: Oh, God. I Love This!
Description: Final Fantasy VII Remake... Kind of.
MistaCloudStrife - September 20, 2007 04:33 PM (GMT)
Ah well I've known about this for a while but I just recently had the urge to try it.
I own FFVII on PC and heard about a few cool mods you can use with it. So yesterday(and this morning) I spent hours trying to figure out where the patches and mods were, how to get them to work, updated several drivers to get my audio and graphics to work without problem, installed and reinstalled FFVII several times because of stupid mistakes on my end, and I finally did it.
I installed a few patches and mods that allow me to change all of the playable NPCs and alot of the regular NPCs. It's not exactly PS2 quality, but it's very nice compared to the original lego characters. I also went ahead and did a few more like taking out the text boxes so only text shows, renamed some of the magic to match what the newer FFs named them (EX: Fire3=Firaga), and music changes. I substituted the original soundtrack with songs from the Advent Children OSTs, Black Mages, and Voices of the Lifestream by OverclockedRemix. Alot of the songs from OCremix are amazing btw. (An Flowers Blooming in the Church - Aeris Theme Waltz style. Pure genius!)
Oh and a cheated as well. Level 99 with maxxed out stats. I decided I want to play for the story and not have to waste time grinding and such. So all my characters will be 99 with maxxed stats, I'll just collect the weapons and materia and that's all.
Anyway, I just now started the game and wanted to show how it looked. =) Here are a few scenes. We'll start with a CxA scene. ^_~

It might not be a true remake, but the new character models and especially the new music really make it feel like it is. Can't wait to play through everything again. =)

:hyper: Wow, I saw a musicvideo once which used scenes from the game with these updated character models. I always wondered how they did it.
Would you mind sending a few links, tipps and tricks - depending on how much work it would be... There should be a guide explaning how to replace the character models at least. I don't like remixed music or the songs from advent children but I could replace the midi PC sound with the original soundtrack mp3s, for example.
You don't have to explain it step by step, but sending some important links or guides would be great. :rose:
Great job. It looks amazing.

Sure it's no problem.
http://fem1.uniag.sk/Miroslav.Jezik/ff7ncopam.htmlHere's NEAT compilation. This is the last tut I found that actually worked. I had to skip the High Resolution patch since I'm using my laptop and it actually made FFVII unplayable afterwards for me. This one link should be good but I'll give you a few more so you can check out whats out there.
http://sylphds.net/f2k3/programs/Ficedela's download section was down for me so this might come in handy. It's all of his programs. None are explained in there but if you need to find something if Ficedela's it's going to be there.
http://forums.qhimm.com/If you need ANY sort of help, you can search this forum or post in it. The people there should be able to help you with any problem you might have.
I guess that's all you really need to do everything. Have fun. =)
Ah yes, and you would need a copy of FFVII for PC too of course. I don't know where you could download it. But if you're going to get FFVII Omega, I don't think these mods would work. You'll need the FFVII with 3 discs and 1 install discs.

Oh wow! You say you did this with the PC version? That just made me remember that my cousin left his PC version of FF7 at my house about a year ago. I'm gonna go see if I can find it and use these tricks.

Oh, thank you. I'm not at my own PC for a couple of days, so it should take some time to be actually able to try this out - but I WILL  ...
I own the PC version of the game, so no problem there ( I didn't own a Playstation at the time). The main problem will be how to make it work on my PC at all. XP and FFVII don't work that well together, in my experience...
But this is worth to try it out again :woot:
Thank a lot.

Ah, yes... There should be an official XP patch that Eidos came out with. And there might be some problems with your videos. Problems with the videos playing upside down and problems where videos can crash the game. I set up my movies to play off of my harddrive just in case though. ^^;;
Anyway, all the help you'll need should be on the qhimm forum. Thats where I searched and found solutions for all my problems anyway. =)
And you're welcome.

Oh wow! That looks awesome! I wished SE would've used something like that instead of blocky-chibis...it looked hella better! :3 I hope they end up making a remake as well.
Tifa Lockheart - September 28, 2007 10:26 AM (GMT)
Ack! Just when I've uninstalled the game from my PC!
Anyway, thanks for the sources. ^_^' I could use them once I find time to play again. ^_^'

Wow, fantastic pics, MCS! I've never bought the PC version of the game, but this is definitely tempting me into looking for it (and I heard it's easier to find the PC version than the console version these days).
And short of a remake, this might be the only time we'll ever see Biggs, Wedge and Jessie in non-Lego form. XD

Oh wow! This makes me wish desperately that I had FFVII for my PC!!! That is SO much better than the leggo figures!
I am interested in the remixes you talked about though. Where could I find them to listen?
Thanks again for sharing these; totally awesome! :D

I have these set up on my own PC version as well and it's neat to play the game with these models. The only thing that bothers me though is that Cloud's sword is stuck to his back <.< I dunno why, it's just annoying. And some people are all blocky still. Hehehe. I really enjoy Barret's model for some reason. So far I haven't left Midgar so I've yet to see the others in action.
