Title: The World
Description: Welcome all Dot Hackers...
Cloud Gainsborough - February 8, 2005 03:13 AM (GMT)
I figured that we were in desperate (?) need of a club for .hack (dot hack) Legend of the Twilight.
Any other fans out there?
FF_Goddess - February 11, 2005 03:25 AM (GMT)
Cloud, do you mind making this club into a club for the entire .hack series? We could call it "Dot Hackers" or "The World" or something. I can change whatever you want. Or we can leave it. You are the founder, so it is up to you. ^_^
Cloud Gainsborough - February 11, 2005 03:35 AM (GMT)
Good Idea, FF_G! We call it "The World"!

Anti-R - February 28, 2005 04:46 AM (GMT)
Ummm, I love the .hack games and Luminality. I didn't like the animes (sign and legend of twilight bracelet)...
Does this count?
Cloud Gainsborough - February 28, 2005 06:03 AM (GMT)
Cf course it counts! And yes, the manga for Legend of the Twilight Bracelet was better.
Anti-R - March 1, 2005 02:41 AM (GMT)
Cool! Then I wanna join! :woot:
My favorite pairs were Kite and BlackRose, and Elk and Mia,
Materia Thief - March 1, 2005 02:44 AM (GMT)
I'm so stupid not to have noticed this club earlier. I love .hack//SIGN (especially it's soundtrack, so pretty!). Can I join?
FF_Goddess - March 1, 2005 03:10 AM (GMT)
Welcome, new members! :D I love all of the .hack Anime and games! ^_^ And, you are right, Materia Thief, the .hack/Sign soundtracks are the best Anime soundtracks I have ever heard! B)
Cloud Gainsborough - March 1, 2005 03:20 AM (GMT)
Elk and Mia... not too sure about that one.
In Legend of the Twilight Bracelet there almost seemed to be some Shugo/Rena, which is just... no...
Rena/Balmung is acceptable though!
Anti-R - March 23, 2005 07:10 PM (GMT)
Ugh, Shugo and Rena: incest at its worst, and I happen to have read the Children of Hurin... >.<
...Heard the manga is better though...
And ugh, I can't believe Balmung hook up with whatshername in the anime. Hated her...
What's wrong with Mia and Elk? They're so cute together, especially in Quarantine... Now, Tsukasa and Subaru @.@, that's something else...

Yeah, I was pretty grossed out by the ShugoxRena nastiness in Legend of the Twilight. :puke: Maybe they were just attracted to each others' characters???
Oh... do you mean Balmung and Kamui? She was just an old flame, right? :ermm: Or do they hook up again?
I like MiaxElk! But TsukasaxSubaru...? No... :puke:
Anti-R - March 28, 2005 04:30 AM (GMT)
I meant why the heck Balmung even dated Kamui in the first place, she seems to be a nasty character...
Actually, I find Tsukasa and Subaru quite touching, even if it was bordering on yuri. I have issues with Subaru though, I wasn't impressed at all by her character, but she did manage to break Tsukasa's shell that she finally wanted to return to the real world, something the other characters never managed to do.

What, so Tsukasa is a girl?
Anti-R - March 29, 2005 01:09 AM (GMT)
Yes, Tsukasa's player/Real Life counterpart is a girl.
Yukari - March 29, 2005 01:33 AM (GMT)
May I join too? I only recently got into the .hack series (about November), but I fell in love with it almost straight away. I've completed the first three games, just started on Quarantine. My favourite characters in the games are BlackRose, Kite, Balmung and Mistral. A lot of people found Mistral annoying, but I really like her. ^_^
I've read the Twilight Bracelet manga - I don't think it actually mentions Balmung and Kamui being old flames. So in the anime they were? I don't mind Kamui, so I don't really think 'ugh' to that idea. Shugo and Rena, though? Ugh. Incest squicks me out.
As for SIGN, I've only got the first DVD so far, but I knew that Tsukasa was a girl before I even got into the the series. I'm not really too fond of Tsukasa, though maybe this will change as I get to see more of the series. At the moment I like B.T best. Bear and Mimiru are great characters too, and Sora's voice irritates me to hell. His blades are useful in the game though. ;)

Yeah, she is really mean. <_<
My favorite character from .hack//Sign is Crim. He is just very cool. B) His attitude is so positive and he is always willing to help those in need. My 2nd favorite character in this series is Sora, just because he cracks me up going "BOING" everywhere and acting silly.
My favorite character in the other .hack series (games and shows) is Balmung. He just plain rules... :winner:
Anti-R - March 29, 2005 09:47 AM (GMT)
GAME: Kite, BlackRose, Helba, Balmung, Mistral (me too! I totally freaked out when she said she's a pregnant housewife though @.@), Terjima Ryoko, Mia and Elk.
ANIME: Bear, Mimiru and Sora.

Bandai today announced some new information regarding its .hack series of RPGs. I like KitexBlackrose a lot :)

Can I join?! I love the .hack series but haven't got the games yet! I watched couple volumes of .hack//SIGN and all three of .hack//Legend of the Twilight Bracelet and already got all volumes of the manga for the latter series!
I'm not really fond of Shugo/Rena. :puke: Too be honest, I like Shugo/Hotaru better. :fangirl: Also like Tsukasa/Subaru, too.
Also, we can actually play on 'The World'?! My dial-up connection limit is 6 hours...but not enough.

*Bumps thread* ^_^
There is a new .hack game that is out for the PS2. It is called .hack//G.U.. Some info:
.hack is a role-playing series that takes place in a faux online universe where the main character is a player of the virtual-reality game "The World." G.U. will take place seven years after the previous installments and will feature new gameplay elements and jobs.
The year is 2017, and "The World" has been updated with a new storyline, new characters, new monsters, new areas, and new jobs. The gameworld is far from peaceful, however, as Player Killers (PK'ers) are constantly hunting and guilds are always battling. When an inexplicable phenomenon beyond the game's specifications occurs, "The World" becomes a lawless virtual reality that even the system administrators can no longer control.
You play as Haseo, a gray-haired character that's known as "The Terror of Death," a nickname derived from his practice of hunting down Player Killers. Another character revealed thus far is someone that strongly resembles Kite from the previous .hack titles, except that he wears a ragged costume and has a face devoid of emotion. He's called Tri-Edge, a name that seems to be derived from the shape of his weapon.
A five-minute-long trailer of G.U. is available at Cyber Connect 2's official Web site, and it shows Tri-Edge overpowering Haseo, stopping all his attacks with just one hand and countering with a vicious blast. The trailer also shows seven other characters that seem to be party members: Atoli, "The Mirage of Deceit"; Kuhn, "The Propogation"; Yata, "The Prophet"; Sakubo, "The Machinator"; Endrance, "The Temptress"; Pai, "The Avenger"; and Ovan "The Rebirth."
According to .hack //G.U. producer Daisuke Uchiyama and director Hiroshi Matsuyama (who is also the president of Cyber Connect 2), "G.U." stands for "Grow Up," which has 12 meanings hidden in the game. The developers have revealed that .hack //G.U.'s project will expand outside of games, much like its previous releases. In addition, Matsuyama disclosed that another .hack game is also currently in development, and it will be released before G.U. Matsuyama added that .hack fans might want to check Cyber Connect 2's official site on a regular basis, since new information could be leaked at any time.
Sounds pretty interesting! :woot: I didn't know it was already out, but Vol. 1, "Rebirth" is available right now. Has anyone played it?

Gotta love coincidence. I just finished several hours reading all about the .hack games on Wikipedia. Sure, spoiled myself to hell and back with a return ticket for the summer--but I've had the first four games since they came out, and I still haven't managed to finish INFECTION! So, what the heck. :P
And now I find this club.
I've not played .hack//G.U., and I'm not sure if I will. Although the first generation of .hack games/anime/etc. all had different casts, there was a relationship between each of them and the one unifying factor: Aura. I don't know if Aura's gonna reappear in .hack//G.U. If she does, I might end up picking this game up when I return home.
To touch on previous discussion:
- Anime soundtrack: ABSOLUTE LOVE. I discovered the godliness of See-Saw and Yuki Kajiura through this series. I can never get tired listening to her pieces, they're definitely one of the most unique aspects of .hack! My favourites are a stray child, aura and tasogare no umi.
- Subaru: Anti, I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one not smitten by Subaru. One of my friends absolutely worshipped her, but she could never really endear herself to me. I acknowledge how she was able to open Tsukasa up, but I find myself not paying too much attention to her. I preferred B.T. among the girls.
- Mistral: I like her! Despite the super-hyper attitude, you get a glimpse of her real life if you traded emails with her. From what I remember, she didn't sound particularly well-off, which if true, gives another side to that happy online facade.
- Balmung: :lust: Oh, just for the record, he doesn't have an ex-girlfriend in the .hack//DUSK manga. Dunno why the anime tried to give him a girlfriend--especially suicidal, IMO, for them to have attempted that with such a popular bishounen. :P
- ShugoxRena: Yeah, very weird. I can deal with incest, but this one never appealed to me in any way. I think I just had a hard time in general looking at anything sexual happening when the character designs were so fricking chibi. O_O

This is one of those games that was a total pain in gameplay but has a fabulous storyline, despite the huge cast of characters. I kept the files of all four games in my memory card. It was that awesome.
Lynn, you really should play the series. The ending blew me away.
Cloud Gainsborough - October 26, 2006 05:44 AM (GMT)
Omg......... how'd this come back??
FF_Goddess - October 26, 2006 07:51 PM (GMT)
Cuz FF_G casted Phoenix Down on it. :lmao:
I really liked the first 4 games. The storyline was pretty cool, but the dungeons were all the same, so they got rather boring. :P
Anti-R - October 27, 2006 02:32 AM (GMT)
And not to mention getting some of the virus cores for the plot point dungeon in the last two games is tedious. >.<
And remember the last part where you're supposed to get Maha? That's so insane.
BTW trailer

EDIT: Made a separate thread in the other section, but decided to just put it here so it'll bump.
Wow. I just finished this game a few days ago, and I can safely say that G.U. is 10x better than its predecessor. XD
It tells the story of Haseo, a PKK player of "the World" MMORPG who was obsessed hunting down Evil! Kite/Tri Edge, a PK responsible for putting a friend of his in a coma.
The dungeons doesn't look so bad and upgrading weapons and armor is player friendly. There's a lot of button mashing involved on enemy encounters, but the battle is fast paced to make up for it.
New additions like the Arena and managing your own shop to sell your least powerful items for cash is fun.
Characters are alright. Haseo has a giant chip on his shoulder, but he had his likeable moments, Atoli is blah... am hoping she redeems herself somewhat, I can't say the same to Khun and Pi... I felt they're the usual character archtypes from RPGs that I've already met before, but since it's just part 1 maybe they'll evolve in the next.
And am still heartbroken regarding Evil Kite. Wah! T.T
So in a nutshell, I highly recommend everyone to try out this game. Even those who didn't finish the past .hack installments (as this is pretty much standalone). And looking forward part 2.
P.S.
PVs for the second part of .hack//G.U.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=IgHQuP2ufr0I remember watching this and think "Hey, the Japanese VA sounds like Cloud" and lo and behold, Haseo IS voiced by Takehiro Sakurai. ^0^ Fun.
Shame you can't switch voices. Would have been fun to hear him in some comedic scenes...
FF_Goddess - April 4, 2007 07:26 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the info, Anti-R. It sounds pretty fun, but I think I will re-play the other games again before I get it. I haven't played them in a couple of years. :P
Oh, and I saw they are making an Anime spin-off from .hack//G.U. called .hack//Roots. :o
