Lily These denote the joy of one's presence as well as beauty and purity of the heart. While lilies come in a variety of colors, most people readily associate lilies with white, meaning innocence and sweetness. Yellow lilies express gratitude and happiness.

Flowers signify hope and joy, as well as immortality, coming back year after year.
QUOTE (Water @ Hikari)
In Advent Children, Aerith's presence was represented by water. Of course, we can draw the conclusion that this was meant to reference her lake burial in the City of the Ancients, but why else could it be associated with Aerith? In philosophy, water represents things that are flowing, formless, adapt to their surroundings. Aerith easily adapted to her new existence as a wanderer of the Lifestream as can be seen in Maiden Over The Planet. If there is a way around something, she adapts herself to the situation and finds it. There was a way to stop Meteor, Aerith found it. There was a way around the boundaries of life and death, Aerith found it, appeared to Cloud, communicated with him and reassured him. Also, water symbolises thoughts and feelings. Aerith is impulsive and follows her heart and emotions, speaks her mind. She obviously wasn't afraid to show her feelings while travelling with AVALANCHE, since when she was killed, Cloud spoke about how she would never 'laugh, cry, or get angry'. Water traditionally signifies purification or regeneration, which is most obvious in the last scene of AC, where the water cures the children of Geostigma. Aerith's powers were all related to curing, true, but I think for Cloud, the water cleansed him of his 'sins', more than anything else. He had told Vincent beforehand that he was going to try and be forgiven for his sins. Aerith raining the healing water down on him could have been her way of showing him that he didn't need to try to be forgiven, his sins were forgiven. Not just his sin of 'letting her die', but also perhaps his sin of 'causing' Zack's death, since Zack died protecting him. Being immersed in water is also associated with rebirth. At the end of AC, when Aerith and Zack send him back, Cloud is immersed in the water pool in the church. This could represent Cloud being 'reborn' without his sins, reborn as a person who can look to the future and live freely with no guilt to bind him to the past. I don't mean that Aerith and Zack themselves were binding him to the past, just his guilt over their fates. Their memories together are still important to him, and Aerith still lives on in Cloud's consciousness, of course. Water also signifies life. Strange to associate such an image with Aerith, then? Well, not really. Aerith may not be a part of the 'upper world' any more, but as Maiden showed us, her death didn't mean that she would cease to exist. Her spirit is still very much alive, even without her physical body.

Going further into the lily symbolism... There's not a clear definition of what each flower means, but last night I was watching "Imagine Me & You" and the florist there tells her lover the lily means "I dare you to love me!" The lily is also shown being held by the florist in one hand with her lovers hand in the other on the cover of the DVD. It's a pink lily. Looking a but more into it myself, aside from it meaning purity, virginity, it also means "it's heavenly to be with you" -- that's the white lily. The yellow one means "I'm walking on air".

Water in mythologies from around the world, acts as the primordial fluid from which creation comes. It can symbolize the psyche's deeper layers. It has been considered the pure element. It is the symbol for the energy of the unconscious. It can be the watery womb or baptismal rebirth. Water is a reoccuring symbol in the Utena series. In the Utena movie it serves as a symbol for Touga as he drowned. One example is the rain falling when Utena talks with Touga and first learns of the Seal of the Rose. In the Escaflowne film when Hitomi is carried to Gaea, water fills about her ankles and she falls through it until she finds herself within the Escaflowne armor. The experience was real but Hitomi can't help wondering if it's a vision or a dream. It seems as one. Water sometimes symbolizes dreams or the unconscious in anime. In the first Sakura movie this is so, as it is during the Evangelion series. Water also becomes something womblike or protective in mecha, and see this in Evangelion as well as here in Escaflowne while Hitomi is inside the armor.

As stated in the Intro, water is an element usually associated with girls and women. Water can also be used to show love or concern. Characters and things that are shown to have a 'watery' quality to them usually have a blue-colored theme to them. Blue because of the primarily blue color of water. Characters that have a 'watery' quality to them are more likely to 'go with the flow', but can also show very chaotic responses as well. Water is frequently associated with women because it is theorized that life first came from water (new life comes from women), without water every living thing would die (without women, a species would die), it can take many forms and shapes (as can women), and religiously women are tied to water (such as the Greek parthanon goddess Aphrodite who was born of the sea foam). This can be shown by the female character being a swimmer, with the girls touching still lakes or ponds, or with a water colored costume, or with a preponderance of water pokemon. Water can also be shown to show a female character being scared and frightened about the changes happening to her; physically, mentally, and emotionally - that is water has no fixed shape or form, and is in a state of constant flux, just as girls are as they go through adolescence. This can be shown by having the girl panic when she gets into a pool or lake, or be afraid of water. In addition, water can be used as an erotic tool. Hair and skin look much different when wet; and when you normally see a girl with dry hair and skin, it can add a bit of eroticism to her if her hair is wet. Clothes also fold and adhere differently when they are wet.

However, water can also symbolize love because it isn't stagnant (and love is constantly evolving), it can come in many forms (people love different things for many different reasons), and it is very difficult to grasp water (as it is usually very difficult for the heroines in shoujo stories to sort out their feelings for the other characters). This can be illustrated in an Anime by showing two leaves in a pool of moving water... where you're not sure if they two leaves will meet, or part. Or by the rain when the hero or heroine realizes that the one they love they might not be able to be with. Common symbolisms include storms and rainfall indicating sadness or heartbreak, snow indicating coldness of heart, dark clouds covering the Moon (eternal symbol of femininity) indicating dark events for the girl(s), bright fluffy clouds indicating positive change and optimism, and clear skies indicating perfect events and a clear future.

QUOTE (Wikipedia)
Koi have been accidentally or deliberately released into the wild in every continent except Antarctica. They greatly increase the turbidity of the water because they are constantly stirring up the substrate. This makes waterways unattractive, reduces the abundance of aquatic plants, and can render the water unsuitable for swimming or drinking even by livestock. In some countries, koi have caused so much damage to waterways that vast amounts of money and effort have been spent trying to eradicate them, largely unsuccessfully. Because of the danger to the environment koi possession is illegal in many parts of America, South America and Australia.

I believe I've read something about a Japanese myth about a red (don't know if it could be pink, too) ribbon having to do with a promise, or that if you tie it around your pinky with someone else's, you're soulmates or together forever or something like that.
QUOTE
You mean the red string of fate? It's said that before you were born, the gods tied two souls together by a red string, seen only by the gods, that bound them as soulmates. Only with each other that they can have true happiness, anyone else wouldn't be right, as they don't have that 'connection' between them.

Lily is the flower of Virgin Mary. Here is the "Virgin of Lily" for example. There's also the Annunciation: ![]() (I'm so sorry for big dimensions, unfortunately I can't change it :/ ) Here the lily is a symbol of good news and purity. "Advent children"..."Mother"...the angel statue...the church... It's also the emblem of French kings as Louis XIV. So lily is associated with royalty too. Here a princess with lilies. But I'm not sure about this one lol. Hope it might help you in your quest :) (and sorry for spelling mistakes)
