Is it one of the Cactuars in the Cactuar Sidequest? I remember one of them floats up into the airship (which me and my sister mistakenly thought he's going to Spiran heaven).

I'm guessing Cid.(FFX) He lives in the desert, pretty much underground where his airship is, and "High in the air rides my salvation" would just mean that Cid is happiest when he's in the air flying.
