Title: Stopped Playing Video Games

UsagiMamoru - August 5, 2007 03:29 PM (GMT)
It's been over a year since I've played a video game. I guess I've outgrown the whole video game thing. I have hobbies. I love soap operas and teen dramas and American shows. I like partying and I like my boyfriend and how he gets into trouble and had this bad boy side and I like my boyfriend's crowd that gets into trouble and gets high and stoned every week. I think about so many past relationships. I think about people I haven't seen in seven years, six years, five years.
I love television like Beverly Hills, 90210 and Party of Five. I like how my boyfriend is a bad boy and has this cool crowd. I love romance series with lots of kissing and sex and dating. I love television dramas with couples that have lots of kisses and sex. I have so many interests. Anyone else move on from the whole video game thing?

Nuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu T.T

Honestly, I get this feeling I'll still be playing video games when I'm 90 and retired. Happens to be one of my hobbies, and it's not like new hobbies replace the old ones. They just keep piling up.

Nope, I'm 22 and still as much of a gamer girl as I've ever been. With new games coming out constantly, how can I not be? I don't watch much television though, only Heroes and the Next Top Model series (it's a guilty pleasure), so I guess what's TV time for others is gamer time for me. It's not like that's all I do, or that it cuts into my social life, but like Hades, I think I'll be gaming until my arthritic fingers get so clawlike that I can't hold a controller.

I'm nowhere near the gamer I used to be. Games just don't grip me like they once did. I remember always being excited about anticipated PS1 games, and when I got them I'd play it non-stop until I completed it, then I would be overwhelmingly happy! Now, I hardly have an urge to complete games these days. It may be that these games just aren't that appealing to me. I still play Guitar Hero a lot, which means that I haven't quite given up on videogames -- I am just waiting for them to appeal to me again!

Sure, I have a lot of new interests since the time of me being excited for games. I spend a lot of money on music and DVDs now, so the money I used to have for games goes elsewhere. That isn't very handy considering the price of videogames just keeps going up. Plus, I think the addition of the internet to my house has just shifted my attention here. Not that is a bad thing, just that it has taken away my videogame time.

Still, there are games I'm looking forward to now. So hopefully I'll become the gamer I once was one more time!!!

I'll be an awful mother because I'll be too busy replaying the original SNES Star Fox to hang out with my kids! Nah, I'm kidding. But really I think I will always love video games. They're story tellers, interactive, and make you think. I hardly watch TV aside from Adult Swim, Law & Order, and sometimes moves (I watched Gladiator, Wedding Singer, and Breakfast Club last night). And video games are actually good for my social life. I play them with my brother and our friends! So actually, video games can be BETTER for your social activity than television.

I'm not a hardcore gamer to begin with since I only play RPGs. Though I have noticed that my brother and I don't jump excitedly at every new RPG on the PS2 now as we did on the PS1. Maybe it's our age, other interests (internet, sports etc.) cutting into our game time, or (what we personally believe) that PS2 RPGs just aren't as engaging/good as PS1 games-- but we're definitely acting differently.

Still, that doesn't mean I'm moving on from games! Just like my manga, I'm gonna keep at this till my thumbs fall off! I may not finish as many RPGs as I used to, but I still enjoy myself immensely while playing each one. And as graphics, translations and (hopefully) plot get better with each new game, it keeps the anticipation going.

Conversely, I rarely watch TV other than a few comedies and hardly go out to watch any movies. I also don't buy music, I just listen to the radio. Books are about the only things I'm ready to plonk some serious moolah down for.

Yep, it's all about how you use the technology. :) Video games can just be as social as sports, even one-player games like RPGs. I used to accompany my brother and just watched him play some of our old games, and both of us would have a blast.

Oh wow, you just also described me and my opinions word for word there [as well], Lynn.

Nice to see a fellow bookworm around. ^^

I consider myself to be a gamer. Not a solid one, but if I must choose from any other form of entertainment I'd readily pick up a controller (yes, even if one of those choices is *gasp!* a book).

But as I grow older (with a walking stick!/sarcasm) videogames isn't enough anymore... most of my attention is now looking out for the family and the business, for one. I'm helping raise three kids. And I find myself going out more now that I have work, time and some money to spend with, thus I'm enjoying movies and other stuff more than usual, which I definitely couldn't do as a student... in the end I find myself not a huge gamer like I used to back when I was a teenager.

I miss those times. But life goes on I guess.

From the friends and family I know, those who only play RPGs are some of the most hard-core gamers I've seen up to date. They put so many hours into their video games, it's crazy. You'd be surprised.

My biggest hobbies have always included books, video games, and animes. I refuse to give any of them up. :P

like the game gods once said wen your tired of playing games it's time to make them. anyone here good at C++

I hardly play video games at all anymore... I did sell my PS2, and bought a Nintendo DS using the money I got from the console and games, but now I don't even play that anymore... I've pretty much fallen out of the loop with it. Thing is, is that one of the main reasons I never play anymore is because none of the new games appeal to me as much as the older ones did. Bot now that I think about it, I can't necessarily say I don't play anymore (Is playing Sim City again.), but random stints on an old video game don't occur that often for me anymore...

Another main reason I don't play anymore is because I've been absorbed in work and school. Can't forget bowling either... I've been doing that so much, that even if I wanted to play video games still, I wouldn't have enough money left over to buy any games or systems... It all goes towards bowling balls, games, shoes, and other equipment... lol!

i know what you mean all that seams to come out is mainstrem crap lately just a bunch of movie conversions i.e. transformers, pirates, spiderman 3 etc. that ive went back in time to play old games like starcraft when i play some of the new stuff i get the feeling of that did they even try to make a good game here but thats how i feel

illwaitforever1 - August 7, 2007 04:40 PM (GMT)
Oh Lord above no! I will proably keep the PS3 or some other console from my children. I will be a bad mother! :lmao:

But I'm not at that stage yet, I think I've got a while to go. I will never ever ever stop playing video games. I will help my kids (when it's time) with their games.

And then I'll teach my grandchildren.

AugoraTheMateria - August 7, 2007 08:30 PM (GMT)
Che... I'll be playing video games till I'm dead. But yeah, I don't play that many video games due to prices and lack of good games (it all depends on your taste of games). And when you start liking an old-school game, you can't find them anywhere and you end up looking on eBay (yeah, still trying to get FFVII (I played it. I don't own it)).

Yup, same here. I'm not much of a all round gamer. I stick to RPGs the most since they have a story line. I like games with stories. Rarely do I like fighting games unless they are from an anime or they have a story to it.

And Dance Dance Revolution is a sport. If it can help me lose the fat off my butt and thighs (that's where all the fat goes! only in females... stupid males get it in the waist... That's what DiscoveryHealth says!) and keeps me grooving to the music, I'll keep playing it.

Sefie - August 7, 2007 08:43 PM (GMT)
Lol, my video game habit hasn't slacked off so much as all the time I'd devoted to other games is currently devoted to World of Warcraft.
That and the fact that no games that've come out in the last few years have really sparked my interest, except for Twilight Princess, but since Ninetndo's such a Wii Nazi I doubt I'll EVER get to play it T_T
And wow....I thought that last sentence had a point when I started it but...dang, I think it died. O.o

I've been a gamer since the age of 5, and I find it much more satisfying than watching a movie or a TV show. I just can't stand just staring at something without some way to interact with it. And I'm a challenge player. NSGNSNTQ - done it. SCC Rydia - done it. Super Mario World in minimum stages - done it.
In spite of all that, I don't think games have taken over my life. My job at the school is much more important than getting Smash Bros Brawl or beating Ruby Weapon with just Aerith (actually really easy). And I love them kids of course.

MistaCloudStrife - August 7, 2007 10:29 PM (GMT)
Twilight Princess is out for gamecube too. =P I still want to play it too... >_>

As for me, I've always been a gamer at heart. But I do feel I haven't been giving enough time to my game system games. I have a few PSP games still in plastic, and haven't touched my Final Fantasy XII after I reached about mid point.

When i look back at it, I've spent less and less time with each passing FF. Final Fantasy X, I never even had the urge to fill my sphere grid, collect every last weapon and unlock them or even finish the battle arena. >_>

I've actually been spending more time on anime and MMO's.. Hopefully my MMO playing still makes me a hardcore gamer. 3 hours grinding in one sitting at a time. =P Pretty boring(and still addicting) stuff.

Even if I grew up, I'll still find time for videogames between life, anime, manga and other hobbies. I get the feeling that turn-based RPGs and games like FFXII will be my best friends when I'm old, senile and have bad reflexes then.

Resha - August 8, 2007 12:16 PM (GMT)
Ha, I've been playing video games since the release of akari and up to the playstation series!!! ^_^ And up to today, even if I'm already old (and they say I should move on), I still have time to play, of course, you just have to prioritize the things that matters to you, and in free time, you should hit the your videogame console. And if I ever stop playing, I would never stop loving the Final Fantasy Series. :D
