Title: A Little Fall Of Rain
Description: from Les Miserables

I recently started listening to songs from the musical Les Miserables and the lyrics in this song reminded me of Cloud and Aerith. More poignant, the two characters, Marius and Eponine, sing this song after Eponine is wounded and dying in Marius's arms. Enjoy!

Eponine
Don't you fret, M'sieur Marius
I don't feel any pain
A little fall of rain
Can hardly hurt me now
You're here
That's all I need to know
And you will keep me safe
And you will keep me close
And rain will make the flowers grow

Marius
But you will live, 'Ponine!
Dear God above!
If I could heal your wounds with words of love...

Eponine
Just hold me now
And let it be
Shelter me, comfort me

Marius
You would live a hundred years
If I could show you how
I won't desert you now

Eponine
The rain can't hurt me now
This rain will wash away what's passed
And you will keep me safe
And you will keep me close
I'll sleep in your embrace at last!
The rain that brings you here is Heaven-blessed
The skies begin to clear
And I'm at rest
A breath away from where you are
I've come home from so far...

(They sing together)

Eponine
So don't you fret, M'sieur Marius
I don't feel any pain
A little fall of rain
Can hardly hurt me now

Marius
Hush-a-bye, dear Eponine
You won't feel any pain
A little fall of rain
Can hardly hurt you now
I'm here...

Eponine
That's all I need to know.
And you will keep me safe
And you will keep me close

Marius
I will stay with you
Till you are sleeping

Eponine
And rain...

Marius
And rain...

Eponine
Will make the flowers...

Marius
Will make the flowers...

(Eponine dies)

Marius
...grow...

Here's a stellar performance of A Little Fall of Rain performed by Lea Salonga and Michael Ball at the Les Miserables 10th Anniversery Concert.

Too sad, i can't stand Eponine. I was just glad when she died, so the song can't touch me that much. It's nice, though.

However interesting fact - when you believe Wikipedia - Aeris seiyu Maaya Sakamoto also plays Eponine in the japanese musical version of Les Miserables.

I've looked through the book (was going to read it, but now it's packed up until we finish moving... ), and Eponine was not the sympathy-inspiring character she was in the musical. I like the songs in the play, but they butchered Marius and Cossette and their love story. Marius and Cossette, to me at least, have a more Clerith like relationship than Marius and Eponine, aside from Eponine's death. Their relationship feels like what Cloti would have been had Tifa died.

But yeah, I love this song and I plan to use it for a music video! Sorry about the rant there, but I was introduced to the musical first and then the book, and I was ticked about how many changes they wrought upon a classic novel (I love 19th century books, so anyone who toys with them usually incurs my wrath! ). Okay, I'll stop now.

Ack, I hated Cosette in the musical. She grew up to be such a Mary Sue.
I love this song, it's so sad and sweet, I don't think Eponine deserved to die. Everything she did was completely selfless and out of love for Marius, including leading him to Cosette.

I also think Eponine's On My Own sounds alot like Tifa.
