Title: The Wcm And Geostigma
Description: Does he have Geostigma?
Anastar - February 4, 2005 02:14 AM (GMT)
Everyone has been assuming that the WCM has Geostigma, but something just occurred to me today. No one has ever said that the WCM has it. Did we just assume that the WCM has it because he's at the Healing Lodge?
If the WCM is indeed Rufus, he may be covered in blankets simply because of the mutilation of his skin from the explosion in his office. He may be covered with burn scars rather than disfigured by Geostigma. He may also be at the Healing Lodge just because it had state of the art equipment available for dealing with recuperation from severe injury, or because he wanted to be away from the public eye.
I bring this up because we've been trying to figure out how Rufus got Jenova cells in him in order to get Geostigma. Perhaps Rufus doesn't have Geostigma. Perhaps that's only been our assumption because Rufus is at the Healing Lodge.

its true.. :o maybe rufus has not geostigma...i have read geostigma its the punishment of the planet to human race...so the planet whant people to die... <_<

Maybe.... maybe so. It could be that Rufus is just running away from Midgar and from ShinRa because of all the things that he's plotting and that Healin Lodge is the "most private" place in the Planet where nobody will disturb him.... And besides, I don't think Healin Lodge is exclusive only for victims of Geostigma. I think I remember seeing "sanitorium" somewhere in its signpost or something....
But it's also possible that he has J cells in him, too. Because, you see, he was there when the Reunion happened.... :D Okay, it might sound a little crazy, but wouldn't it be an interesting little twist if Rufus just used "materia" and "looking for the Promised Land for the greater glory of ShinRa" as excuses to get to that mountain? What if being the kid of the President didn't save him from being experimented upon by Hojo? WHAT IF? WHAT IF???!!!!!!! *foams at mouth*
Ah, never mind.... I'm talking crazy again.... :ph43r:

I'm not saying that the WCM definitely doesn't have Geostigma - there's always a possibility that he does. But when you think about it, it's never been said that he has it and the only thing in trailers which suggests that the WCM has it is the fact that he's living at the Healing Lodge. So I think there's a possibility that the WCM doesn't actually have Geostigma - we've just been assuming that he has it.

The Reunion only shows that you have J cells in you if you are summoned to it... Tifa and RedXIII (or Barret) went to the Reunion, too, and they don't have J cells in them. Tifa and RedXIII (or Barret) don't have Geostigma, either, even though they were at the Reunion.
They weren't summoned to the Reunion like Cloud was. Besides, if you get summoned to the Reunion, you die. The only reason Cloud didn't die at the Reunion is because he got thrown into the Lifestream after handing the black materia to Sephiroth as the Weapons emerged.
Tifa Lockheart - February 5, 2005 03:17 PM (GMT)
I think Barret et al just went to Reunion not because they got summoned but because they just had to go there coz they need to find answers to their question about Sephiroth and Meteor and those kinda stuff... or if I put it this way: uhm... because Barret et al just got dragged there!
Rufus is a good actor, I could tell. He's very deceiving; even I got deceived by his character. Who knows, he could still be "acting" in Advent Children:
1. Acting like he has Geostigma to "hide"
2. Acting like he's on Cloud's side; or
3. Acting like he's on Kadaj et al's side...
Rufus is a "perfectionist"/"obsessive-compulsive" person, I believe... and he doesn't want anything imperfect in himself. Considering he has Jenova Cells and he got summoned to Reunion before, but he just denied it because he couldn't accept the fact that he has Jenova Cells in his system; probably because he thinks that having Jenova Cells is degrading... like he'd be "downsized" to someone like Sephiroth (if ever he ever thought of Sephiroth as someone "lower" than him).
As the Wheelchaired Guy that he is at present, he doesn't seem to have a left arm anymore. I looked closely at the FMV (okay, I admit it, I watched it several times over and over again just to make myself cry! )... and he used his left arm to cover his face/shield his face when the explosion occured. I don't know if his left arm survived but got he got infected with geostigma and then it made it hard for it to heal... so they had to cut it off... or maybe it just fell off on its own (NOOOOOOO!!!!! :ph43r: )... or maybe it was taken off in the first place when they found him because the doctors found it useless already since it's burnt or whatsoever.
Gah.
But then again, these are just my views. No need to contradict them; I'm just sharing them! I'm not asking to be contradicted. I wanna hear more views from people!!!
*if it's Rufus, I'm game!*

Okay, I'm not contradicting... I'm just trying to figure this out with you! You know Rufus very well, so I'm interested in what you think.

I agree with you completely... it's hard to know whose side he's on at this point.

Possible... and I agree that he tends to be perfectionist/obsessive-compulsive. But when did he get Jenova cells in him, and why? IF he had Jenova cells in him in FFVII, it was never disclosed.
Andine came up with one theory that's possible... he may have been such a mess after the explosion that the doctors gave him Jenova cells to help him survive. Jenova cells make you a bit harder to kill, so it's possible. The only other reason I can think of is that Rufus wanted to be injected with Jenova cells because he had the impression that it would make him "superior" since they enhance physical strength and make you more resistant to death. I can see Rufus asking to be injected with J cells in order to make him "superior". Do you think Rufus might do that?
Then again, he may be acting and not have Jenova cells or Geostigma at all.

You're right... he
did cover his face with his left arm, which could explain why it's gone.

I'm thinking, too, that the blanket may be there just to cover the burn scars from the explosion rather than hiding any disfigurement by Geostigma.

I don't think the explosion would give him Geostigma. The Weapons were made by the Planet to fight Jenova, so the Weapons wouldn't have Jenova cells in them.

I'm majoring in "Rufusology" j/k. :P . Nah. I just love him so much. ^_^'

Cool thought... makes sense... ^_^'
Since he's the President... and he wants to change the world (I believe he mentioned that)... maybe that's why the people at the Healin Lodge are trying their best to keep him alive so that he could contribute something much better to society and to the Planet. But then again, I don't know if he's just using the "I want to change the world" façade or he's telling the truth. After all, you always see other flicks wherein there's this bad guy and he gets into an accident and you put him on a wheelchair and he changes his ways. :P
He's really part of the Reunion, I think... or he plays a significant part in it although we're not sure as of now if he really has the Jenova cells in his system or not...
........ notice how his "theme" (although I detest the fact that it's really his theme because it sounds nasty! :ph43r: ) Rufus's Welcoming Ceremony is in the Reunion Tracks album of Final Fantasy 7... and it's also included in the Piano Collection album... which, I think, is sufficient evidence (for me, at least) that he is an important character who plays a big role in the happenings in the movie and the game.

I meant that after the explosion, he is recovering from it, and he started acquiring geostigma during his recovery period.

One word. YES. It was confirmed in the 25 minute trailer, where the Wheelchair dude removes the blanket covering him, and you can't really recognize him cuz' the geostigma is so bad. I personally think its Rufus, it has to be.

I don't recall the blanket being removed... was it? But I could recall seeing half of his face when Kadaj was about to summon Bahamut (not sure who he summoned, shadow creepers or Bahamut?)...
