Title: Are You Superstitious?
Scott - July 15, 2007 04:30 PM (GMT)
As most of you know, we just passed a Friday the 13th. Is this a day you generally fear or do you not take any notice to it? If you do something which could be considered bad luck, do you do something to counter it (such as throwing salt over your shoulder)?
Personally, I don't know what to think. I consider myself having quite a bit of bad luck because not much I would like to happen ever does, but on one Friday the 13th there was an event that happened which I never could've guessed. Was a very good day overall (though it may have been "just another day" to others, my idea of a good day is usually very different than most other people's).
Any superstition stories you could share with us?

I'd just like to say, I never realised it was Friday the 13th till it was 11:37pm, thats when I found out.
Superstitious? Yes, I am. I believe in ghosts, and bad luck, and other such things.
Story? I went into my mom's bedroom around a year ago, and there was this wind.
And when I looked round (I was looking out of the door) there was this white light, in the shape of a woman.
I admit I screamed and ran down the stairs, shouting for my mom.

I'm not really superstitious to be honest, but I've got a story about a Friday the 13th.
Well, not so much a story, but just a random incident that occurred... and it was on my golden birthday (Which turned out to be a Friday the 13th lol! October 13th, 2000 was my 13th birthday.) I was at school getting lunch... and after I pick up my tray and head out for my seat, I tripped over my own feet somehow, and lost all my food...It sucked too, because I was really hungry... :(

I didn't realise until I read this thread. :o
Superstitious? Generally, I believe in spirits and all of that. As a kid, I always stay up late on Chinese New Year, because my parents told me that'll make them live longer.
Also, I believe in premonition, somewhat. I sometime get a feeling of 'impending doom', as I put it, but sometime it's true, sometime it's false.

I don't believe in Friday the 13th. But since I'm Pinoy yeah, I practice superstitious stuff...
Y'know knocking on wood when talking about rhetorical misfortune, not supposed to eat anything during Holy Week, don't attempt to call the spirits through drinking glass (and if you DO summon it, make sure to do the necessary stuff to get rid of it). Look out for our local monsters such as kapre (an ogre with a tobacco addiction), manananggal (a half woman with bat wings who eats babies in women's stomachs), tiyanak (undead fetus) and what have you in the province. >.>

Well, Friday the 13th is an unlucky day because of an historical moment in Europe's history. The Pope of the time ordered to kill all of the Templar Knights because he was afraid of their power and wanted their wealth. They all died at a Friday 13. .__.
I know, I'm a nerd. I'm not superstitious, but I try not to make things that will scare someone. You could say I'm a non believer that acts like one. ^^

HAHA, ANTI is KEWL PINAY.
I don't really believe on such stuff....but I do a lot of them...like blowing a daffodil, make a wish then it will come true...! XD

Thanx Aevalenche for revealing why Friday the 13th is such an unlucky day. I didn't know that. :gift:
Anyway...
I'm sure a lot of you probably already know this, but every culture has an unlucky symbol, number or something that gives them a bad premonition.
In Japan, the number "4" is a bad luck number which is why many are superstitious about being in a hospital on the fourth floor. The reason for this is that the number four or "shi" is the same word for "death." This is why in some anime or manga, you see the person saying "yon" which is another word for "four" instead of "shi" when they count down from ten to one.
In Initial D they do it during the races. (Instead of SHI they say YON)
In Dragonball Z during Trunks' past, the androids count down to one waiting to attack innocent civilians.
ALSO, in western culture, the hour between 3:00 am and 4:00am is considered to be the "witching hour" because supposedly, that was the hour in which Christ died and darkness fell over earth (in other regions of the world, of course, it was light out.) This is why, many eerie references have been made to late at night activity.
The GOOD NEWS is that if you are superstitious there are a few good luck charms to keep everyone safe. Seriously.
Frogs in Japan are considered lucky, as are charms (such as the type Rei from Sailor Moon uses to banish evil.) Sometimes people will put out stone frog statues to ward out evil presences (Keiichi from Ah! My Goddess does this sometimes.)
In western cultures during demon exorsising, people will create salt circles and stand in them to keep them safe. Somehow, this evidently works (according to some obscure referrences if you look up exorising rituals.) Then, of course there is holy water.
Also, if ever you are haunted by a ghost, supposedly the ghost will leave you alone if you just tell them too. I know it sounds spooky and weird, but if you exert enough will, you can make supernatural forces leave you alone (unless their will is stronger.) They even say you can even ward off a demon possession if you fight it and not let it take you over.
AND for those who believe in curses...if you are ever threatened to be cursed or if you believe you are under a curse, take comfort in knowing ALL curses come back to whoever sent them several fold. Some have told me ten fold, some have told me seven fold.
TRUE STORY: I knew of a lady whom we will call Lady A who was threatened to be cursed by another lady, whom we will call Lady B. Lady B told Lady A, that she would curse her for some really petty reason. Not too soon after, Lady A got really, really sick and almost died. A year or so later, Lady B's children started to die, one by one until she was the only one left. Then she died.
If someone who has a grudge against you who knows about cursing others is smart, they're not going to curse you because the pay back is way worse then whatever they will give out.
Whether or not you believe in superstitious happenings, take comfort in knowing that any bad things that come around your way can be stopped and pushed back if you walk with confidence and have strength of will. Even the most unluckiest day with the most forboding premonition WILL NOT put you down so long as you let the universe know that you will survive it.
Really.
:peace:

I can sometimes be, but not really. I don't really believe in things like that such as black cats and Friday the 13th. I think people should be more scared of Friday the 13th in case of a maniac dresses up as Jason Voorhes from the 13 movies and starts a killing spree :P
Aevalenche - July 17, 2007 06:25 PM (GMT)
No problem, Butterfly220! ^^
And I completely agree with Kuki Prower. The real threat is in the living humans, not the dead ones. I don't believe in souls that are still attached to this world, or in curses. Even though I love the stories.
Although I kind of believe in jealousy curses. I saw a few people that were very bad get better with the help of a 'witch' .___. These sort of things really make me think twice.
