Title: Here Is Something That Will Make You Think

This is not a real Calvin and Hobbes strip but it gets a point across. The idea is that Calvin gets on Ridalen and becomes focused on his work. Unfortunately, this all at the cost of his imagination. Hobbes is no longer a living thing in Calvin's world. He's just a doll. This is very profound to me. I always saw Calvin and Hobbes as a beaken of childhood innocents and that, as long as Calvin has his imagination, Hobbes would be there. What do you guys think?

Calvin and Hobbes has always been about the powers of imagination. It's unique in that it gives the readers a child's viewpoint. I've always loved these comics myself. <3

That comic has a very good point as well. It's almost sad since Hobbes is a huge character and he "dies" in a way when I see that. Imagination is too important to let go of in my opinion.

Actually, Watterson never said that Hobbes is a figment of Calvin's imagination. He's quite vague on the whole thing, only hinting that Calvin sees Hobbes in one way, his parents sees him in another way.

And come on, there's some instances that imagination isn't plausible (Calvin being pounced on, for one).

Is Calvin the embodiment of innocence? I don't think so... his philosophical view in the world and in his experiences is quite broad-minded for a child (like his rhetoric on how would people feel if animals destroys their houses to put trees, for instance, or the ends justifies the means, for him and not anyone else), and who forgets his witty ways to solve math equations?

If anything... I can see Calvin as the younger version of his Dad. You can tell where he gets his imagination from. And for some reason, I'm not worried that Calvin loses his vision as he grows older.

I'm sure Calvin's not bringing Hobbes to college. But I'm sure his imagination stays with him, only slightly tamer.

Calvin and Hobbes rocks. Seriously, I collected the books.

I can see your point. Calvin is a little monster with Rosalyn! But what I think is that Calvin's imagination makes his perception of reality different than that of his parent's or Susie Derkins. Such as, while Susie may or may not see Mr. Bun as a living thing Calvin sees it simple as a doll. As for the pouncing thing, I don't think Watterson always considers the limits of reality with these things. It's a comic so it doesn't always have to make sense! I just thought this strip was interesting.

But remember when Susie and Calvin make pretend and Watterson's style made them realistic? It's so amusing! XD

XD Oh I loved the Playing House strip! It was so cute! But Mr. Bun didn't change. He stayed a stuffed Rabbit.

A rabbit!? Our baby is a rabbit!?

Yes he did, he became a realistic drawn rabbit. XD

Calvin can't imagine him to be a kid.

Well, one of the reasons why I just want to go to the Philippines is that the publication gives me a daily newspaper for free (and besides I can't see any foreign comic strip at the comic page aside from Snoopy at the Japanese newspapers )...I'm not really a newspaper reader but the only thing I read is headline & the comics section. I like Calvin & Hobbes the comic myself, despite it is actually comical, I'm pretty amused that it gives another twist--his imagination. Although, I'm interested and slightly sad at that strip Neko showed. I'm just very amused.

I recommend getting the compiled book series, Resha. "Scientific Progress Goes Boink!" is my favorite. :D

NekoDono - July 3, 2007 07:03 PM (GMT)
I own the one that is Scientific Progress goes Boink! and The Revenge of The Babysat combined. I'll scan the House comic strip for you all to see. I'll let others judge whether or not Mr.Bun looks real. Still, I absolutely love Calvin and Hobbes!

Sorry to say, but back on topic:

Okay then. Yes, Calvin and Hobbes always were used in the Philippines, especially in Star (newspaper), and in fact, one of their strips landed as a poster here in my school, telling kids to throw trash properly (if you can still call us kids).

But this- damn. *Metal Opera*

Where have you all been once
when I was alone?
When I was a hero in their crazy wicked show
you've sent no little spark
into my darkened view of life.
Did not make me ask for what is wrong
and what is right.

And still I regret to be here.
I'm dreaming of Anna in tears.

Inside - so deep inside

There. Oh, and:
