Title: Downloading Issues :o

Hades' Daughter - June 17, 2007 09:20 PM (GMT)
K, here's the deal - Every time I try to download a file from Megaupload(even small, small files), I get this message that pops up and reads:

"Internet Explorer cannot download <file name> from megaupload.com. The connection with the server was reset."

It just started happening yesterday, and it only happens with Megaupload. I know nothing about computers beyond the very basics...so I'm wondering, have I somehow broken my internet(if that's even possible)?

What's causing that to happen? How do I fix it?
One of you computer geniuses feel like helpin' out a friend?

Without getting too technical, I recommend downloading the Firefox browser and trying again. They both seem to work very differently with Megaupload. IE works much faster but gets LOADS of ads, but Firefox is a lot more stable with the site as a whole.

Thanks for the advice, Scott. It's greatly appreciated ^^
I was curious though, might you know why it occurs? O, and will everything return back to normal sooner or later on its own or do I have to take some kind of action to fix that IE problem?

Scott - June 22, 2007 09:59 AM (GMT)
Well, that it's a recent problem it could just be a problem with Megaupload at the moment. The amount of adverts that site has is terrible and no doubt could effect the way your browser works on the site. If it is just a problem with the site, IE will probably start working again at some point.

As for why it occurs, I really have no idea. Certain sites are adjusted to work better with certain browsers, however, seeing as IE is the main internet browser, I assumed every website would be compatible with it. That makes me think it's a problem on Megaupload's side. *shrugs* Best thing to do is just keep checking the site regularly with IE to see if it works. Also, I'm sure you've already tried this, but try a few different downloads to see if it is just a bad download and it won't co-operate. That occasionally happens, but I doubt there are a lot like that.

it sounds like the server dident accept the reset happens sometimes that means it's not yours or megauploaders problem or like scott said it might be a bad file i get tons of them everyday in ether case all you can do is wait changing browsers might help but normally dosent i use IE ,firefox, all kinds but mainly IE since microsoft generaly keeps a good handle on things.

P.S. i know this is aside from the subject but if you want some good software downloads go here http://www.softpedia.com/ they got tons of software alot of it is free too

I appreciate the helpful link, aerislives. :gift:

Well, I tried using Firefox, Scott...but it didn't seem to help. The files from megaupload just stalls... :/

Yeah, that doesn't seem to be the problem. I tried several downloads, even those I've been able to download previously. Anything I try to download from that site just doesn't work now. It's been several days too and the problem hasn't gone away. Here's another piece of info, I tried downloading from another computer in the house...and megaupload seems to work fine on that computer. @.@

They're both hooked up to the same internet too. Could it be this computer then? I don't recall having done anything to it though. Is it possible that I might have accidently turned something on or off? *frustrated*

This is why I hate computers >_<

Have you installed anything new recently or had any other problems with the PC lately? I doubt that Spyware would stop you from downloading anything, but you never know.

Sweep your PC clean with Adaware. Also, clean out your IE cookies and try again.

If you've already done this stuff...

...I'll get back to you.

HOMG...I.LOVE.YOU.SCOTT!!!!! *huggles you X 2 million*

I just deleted all my cookies...and it's suddenly working.
I'm still so confused on why my computer did that. So...too many cookies can harm your computer or something? >_<
Least now I'll know what to try the next time that happens.

Did I tell you that I love you?
Thanks for your assistance. You're now officially my hero. :gift:

aerislives - June 22, 2007 02:31 PM (GMT)
no it they don't exacly harm your comp it just fills up bandwidth and your hard drive so it slows and some times stops downloads way to go scott

Scott - June 22, 2007 02:55 PM (GMT)
Yay! Awesome!

Now I'm just wondering why Firefox didn't work since IE cookies are seperate...

*ponders*

aerislives - June 22, 2007 03:03 PM (GMT)
although firefox cookies are separate from IE ones firefox still has to use the same connection as IE thus still running into the narrow bandwidth caused by the cookies.
cookies collect in your hard drive as well as a special box you don't see on your firefox or IE but when you delete them there deleted in both places. cookies are only separate on your hard drive cool huh

Scott - June 22, 2007 03:17 PM (GMT)
Ahhh, that makes sense. Thankies, now I no longer have to ponder!

aerislives - June 22, 2007 03:20 PM (GMT)
no problem some reason me never think of cookies though i don't have much problem with them

Hades' Daughter - June 22, 2007 03:20 PM (GMT)
Thanks so much, both of you.
My computer owes you guys its life.

Yes, and your explanation with firefox makes perfect sense, aerislives. So, I'm guessing the explanation to my problem is that there were too many cookies eating up my bandwidth, which in turn messed up my downloads. The server kept resetting itself simply because my computer was too slow then, right?

It only happened with megaupload though...so I'm assuming that it's an incredibly busy site then. Ah, you guys are geniuses. ^^

aerislives - June 22, 2007 03:26 PM (GMT)
yes megaupload is very busy, buisnesses use it alot and the site probly dosent run off a very good server. photo bucket or you tube they have very good equipment to run off of

Hades' Daughter - June 22, 2007 03:29 PM (GMT)
Oh, okay. I understand then.
Thanks for your help. *hugs*
