Title: Top 10 Movies
Description: Obligatory "favourites" thread
Scott - June 10, 2007 02:43 PM (GMT)
We've all got a list in our heads somewhere that rates every movie you watch. Tell us your 10 favourite movies and why. They don't have to be in order.
1. My definite all time favourite is Pan's Labyrinth. It's dark, it has mythical creatures, it has so many layers of meaning and it's left open to interpretation. Not to mention every actor/actress in the movie is phenomenal.
2. Little Miss Sunshine. I just think this is (for the most part) a brilliant feel-good comedy. Steve Carell and Paul Dano are brilliant in it and their characters are definetly my favourite. Brilliant movie, only complaint is that it is a little short.
3. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. I always try to just say the series as my favourite because I can't pick just one out of the three, but after much debate with myself I have picked the Fellowship as my favourite movie. It's where it all began, it has beautiful scenery, great direction, amazing acting and is not stupidly long.
4. Pirates of the Caribbean. I really can't chose one from this series, so just think of this selection as one of the movies, you decide which. I haven't enjoyed a Pirate story until these movies. Jack Sparrow and Hector Barbossa are the best Pirates in the Caribbean!
5. Shaun of the Dead. Very clever British "romzomcom" (romantic comedy with zombies). VERY quoteable, very funny and very entertaining. Watched it loads of times and I never get tired of it.
6. Spirited Away. Simply fantastic. Not much I can say about it that people here won't already know, so you all know how good it is.
7. Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. I don't know what it is about this movie, but I love it and that's all I can say about it. It's very gothic in a weird way and Danny Elfman did extremely well on the soundtrack.
8. Hot Fuzz. Same people who made Shaun of the Dead except this time it's about the police force. Still intelligent, still hilarious.
9. Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Possibly the most quoted movie in history, definetly my favourite outing of the Python crew. The Black Knight scene always has me in hysterics and the French castle is genius in a Monty Python way.
10. Bridge to Terabithia. This made me cry so much. Many label it "Pan's Labyrinth for kids", which in a way it is but to understand the emotion involved you have to be somewhat mature, so not a movie that will appeal to every kid.

2. Gladiator - Ignoring the brilliant soundtrack for now, I cry every time I watch it. Especially when (spoilers)Maximus dies and rejoins his family in Elysium Love love love this movie!
3. 300 - "THIS IS SPARTA!"
4. This Is Spinal Tap - I love that movie so much. It is too funny and makes fun of 80's hair bands so well.
5. National Treasure - Because Nicholas Cage is soooo cool!
6. Yojimbo - Kurosawa is the best and this movie is among my top favorites. Ran is an amazing movie of his as well.
7. The Twilight Samurai - The first in the series of three, this movie is simply art! And the third movie in the set, Love and Honor, is incredible as well!
8. Mulan - Can't help it if I love the show tunes of Mulan!

Sadhana - June 12, 2007 03:44 AM (GMT)
10. Finding Nemo - I'm a little kid at heart.<3 Both cute and hysterical.
9. Casablanca - One of the best movies ever made? Absolutely. Total classic that I can't watch enough.
8. The Godfather - Wow, everything about this movie is perfect: acting, screenplay, direction. Probably the most well-made movie ever.
7. V for Vendetta - I personally think the Wachowski brothers did a better job writing this film than The Matrix. The message is kind of awesome, and I love it.
6. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - Ugh, soooo good. I was a huge fan of the books before the movies came out, but this was one of those few films that topped the novel for me.
5. Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back - I am such a Star Wars geek, and this is the one that I can watch over and over again and still be mesmorized.
4. The Shawshank Redemption - Basically, this movie is the reason I fell in love with Stephen King. So brilliant that it's just beyond words.
3. Amadeus - My mind boggles at how amazing this movie is. The music is fantastic, and the characters are maddeningly engrossing. Despite how highly acclaimed it is, it's still underrated.
2. To Kill a Mockingbird - This is my favorite book ever, so it's only appropriate that in all it's sheer beauty, it would also be ony of my favorite movies ever. The only story that significantly shaped who I am.
1. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - Milos Forman strikes again. Moving, entertaining, heart-breaking. This is a cinematic masterpiece.
I had a LOT of trouble deciding the order from number four onwards because they're just so good. The sequence of those top four probably fluctuates a lot depending on my mood.
Honorable Mentions: The Color Purple, Little Miss Sunshine, Schindler's List, Monty Python and The Holy Grail, Gone with the Wind, and Star Wars: Episode VI - The Return of the Jedi.
Mokuren - July 19, 2007 03:57 PM (GMT)
1.Bambi- (you can laugh now)My absolute favorite movie because they add so much human emotions and characteristics to the animals and it teaches valuable lessons about life. If you think the Disney movie is dark, read the novel it's a lot darker.
2.Memoirs of a Geisha-Kinda hard to explain.
3.Monty Python and the Holy Grail-Don't need to explain
4.The Place Promised in our Early Days- One of the few anime movies I like not directed by Miyazaki.
5.Girl With a Pearl Earring
6.Gidget
7.The Painted Vail
8.Princess Mononoke
9.Spirited Away
10.Titanic

In no particular order...
1. The Godfather. One can never beat the classic. I still prefer the original novel though.
2. A Roman Holiday. Audrey Hepburn's debut film. Has romance, comedy, and being chased around by police and what have yous. They also started the whole rich and powerful girl meets a normal guy, traveling places together on a scooter. :D
3. Schindler's List. Wow, it's one of my favorite Holocaust theme movies. Very powerful, and very sad.
4. Batman Begins. Batman... Christian Bale. Enough said.
5. Empire of the Sun. Also because of Christian Bale. He's 13 in that film though... so it makes me cringe as my lust is kind of like being a... pedo....
6. Kill Bill. Pissed off former assassin in a quest of vengeance? Check. Bruce Lee outfit? Check. Katana slicing blood splurting action? Check. Quentin Tarantino, of COURSE.
7. TMNT. Well, this movie made me a fan of the franchise after being dormant for 10+ years. It DESERVES to be here.
8. Pirates of the Caribbean series. Can't pick a favorite.
9. The Lord of the Rings series.
10. Chronicles of Narnia series. In the fantasy department, Narnia is my first love. So yeah, that's where my loyalty lies.
Special mention to the "Sixth Sense", "The Exorcist" and "Constantine".

A lot of my favorites have been mentioned already so here are some that I love that haven't.
In no order.

2.Team America: World Police: Never fails to make me laugh.
3.Jacob's Ladder: So beautifully depressing and hunting.
4.Rembetiko: The main reason I like this movie is because it possibly has the greatest soundtrack ever created.
5.Once Upon A Time In The West: The final showdown one of the most memorable scenes in film.
6.Braveheart: I cheered, I cried. An epic.
7.Cold Mountain: Inman and Ada, and their journey. Another epic.
8.Vanilla Sky: Bittersweet.
9.Jurassic Park: Dude, DINOSUERS! A childhood favorite.

Bremic - August 1, 2007 08:07 PM (GMT)
1. Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope - Star Wars pwnz all. This one will always be the best. Sigh... and Sadhana has to be the only one who put up Star Wars besides me? "I'm so confused..."
2. Transformers - This movie kicked so much ass, I can't believe it. It might be my #1 if I hadn't been a Star Wars fan for so long.
3. Office Space - A cult classic that a lot of people havn't seen, its a shame.
4. Captain Ron - Another good movie that a lot of people havn't seen, its funny as hell and well done. Go rent it. Kurt Russel FTW.
5. Saving Private Ryan - Man I can't get enough of this one... I love violence with a good story, and this pulls it off perfectly.
6. Zoolander - I think Ben Stiller should be in every movie... he's just priceless in this one.
7. South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut - Yeah, I know a lot of people hate South Park, but I love it. The best part about this "musical" is that the music was actually well done.
8. Advent Children - Ok what the hell, I'll put it up. Only part I didn't like was Mena Suvari... she will pay.
9. Transformers (1980's) - Ok, so check it out. I went to an electronics store at the mall near me, bought Transformers: The Game, and got the 1980's Transformer movie for free. I watched it and liked it.
10. Freddy Got Fingered - I had some trouble with #10 here... so im putting this up because even though its stupid, it made me laugh my ass off.
