Title: Aerith Loved Life More..
Description: what would you say to this?
Ashe - January 29, 2005 01:04 PM (GMT)
I've read somewhere that Aerith couldn't possibly love Cloud more than she loved life, that she cared more for everything good and caring in the world and to make the world a better place, and she just didn't have time to love Cloud. And that Cloud would see this and understand that life was more important to her. (they then go on to say she never got over Zack and she loved him...so she can't love Cloud, but she can be pining over someone she hasn't seen for 5 years?)
What do I think of this? Cloud is part of life, and part of her life so therefore loving life is loving the people you are with, and that includes Cloud. Even after Cloud hit her multiple times she never hated him and wanted to protect him.
I also think that her love for life and everything good was what opened Cloud and gave him strength, I also believed this brought Cloud closer to Aerith and vise versa.
She loved life and gave hers up for Cloud and everyone else in the world and because Cloud obviously knew how much she loved life, he knew how great a sacrifice this was (whether she knew she had to die or not) and felt guilty for letting her life fade to the hands of Sephiroth.

That's a rather silly argument, in my opinion. That's almost like saying that a religious person who loves God is incapable of loving another person. Loving another person is based on your emotions, whereas loving life is more spiritually based. Aerith was a spiritual person who loved the Planet and who loved all that life has to offer, but she was also a very human person with human needs.
Most people love life, but it doesn't prevent them from loving another person. If anything, loving life and all it has to offer enhances your ability to love another person. Anyone who doesn't find life worth living has little to offer another person (just like Cloud has little to offer Tifa right now). The other part is that loving another person also enhances your love of life. For example, if Cloud were in love with Tifa, wouldn't he be fighting to live rather than wishing for death in AC? Many things are obviously more important to Cloud than Tifa in AC, or else he'd be fighting to live.
BTW, I'm going to move this to the forum on Cloud and Aerith's love. The debate section is more for handling Cloti's in debates on other forums.

Well, it is pretty moot for anyone to say that Aerith didn't love Cloud, because it was confirmed that she did in one of the scans released from
Famitsu. There was a full page scan released regarding Aerith. Near the bottom, it stated "She loved Cloud".
I used to have a link to the English version of the scan, but friggin' ACF moved it. <_< I have a link to the Japanese one only:

Check this with Clorith or Fury Brand, but I believe that Square forced AC.net to take their scanlations down. I don't see any translated scans in their scan section any more. I do remember that scan and the translation, though, and it did confirm Aerith's love for Cloud. But I think Rinoa was interested in people's thoughts about that Cloti argument, too.

Yes, Aeris did love life, but to say she loved it more than Cloud is ridiculous. It's like saying she loved her flowers more or something. The way you feel about life, and the way you feel about another person are two different emotions.

Sorry Anastar, wasn't sure where to post this ^^;;;;;;;; *hides*

| Let me just say that, Aeris' storyline does not revolve around Cloud's love and affection, form her point of view it's a girl trying to give some hope to world that is about to die. She knew what she had to do later in the story and that was to summon holy, if you talk about Aeris being the center of Cloud's love and what not I think your sadly being mistaken. |

| To clarify, I don't support this couple because it's not solid enough for me to be called a romantic POV. I find this relationship unbalanced and unfair in some ways. I say this because Cloud does not revolve around Aeris' love for him, Aeris revolves around a different part of the story, an important part. And although I'm very Tifa biased I see this unfair for her part considering HER storyline is based on love and her love for Cloud. |
Those where the essays I read before, it had more to it I'm just pin-pointing part sout.

So if Aerith had no clue that she was going to die until later in the story, why does that mean that her only purpose before she learned about Holy was to give hope to the world? It isn't like it was Aerith's destiny to die, and she knew about it all along. She didn't even know about the use of the white materia at the beginning of the story, and using the white materia wasn't even necessary until Sephiroth got hold of the black materia. Besides that, Yuna had the same goal of bringing hope to Spira with her death, yet she fell in love with Tidus while believing that she was going to die. Sounds to me like this person needs to get her facts straight.

1) Tifa's storyline isn't based on love. 2) Tifa's storyline doesn't revolve around her love for Cloud. 3) Tifa loving Cloud doesn't mean that Cloud loves her. 4) IMO, the CloudxTifa relationship is the one that's unbalanced.

People make no sense...
Love is a part of life. To say she loved life more makes absolutely no sense. Cloud was a part of her life. To give up her own life to save the planet meant that she would save Cloud as well. And the story didn't revolve around anyone's love. The story was about life in general and how fragile it is. It showed how each character's life story was affected by various events. The love triangle came second to this.

This has to be another one on my Top Ten list of lame anti-C/A arguments...
Life is a concept, an abstract thing. It's not something you can feel the same sort of love for as the kind you can feel for another person. Loving an idea and loving a person is very different. You can love both intensely, but loving one doesn't make you incapable of loving the other. Aeris loved being alive, loved all living things, and loved living. Loving another human being is part of that, and this is something she recognised. Aeris loved life as something you can embrace, something rich with possibilities for adventure, magic, love and happiness. Cloud was a part of that. He was a part of why she loved life so much. Cloud's future was something she wanted to preserve when he gave up her life.
True, Aeris' storyline didn't revolve around Cloud - that's part of why I like her so much and find her to be such a good match for him; because of their independance from each other. To me, this independance (as opposed to co-dependance) makes the relationship very balanced and very fair. They have their own stories that don't revolve around love, but since when does that make a difference? It only gives them greater strength standing alone, and they fall in love anyway.
