Title: Deep River Vs. Just A Moment (mash-up)
Description: Featuring Utada, Nas, & Quan

Carlo - April 17, 2007 09:22 AM (GMT)
Hey, guys! If you don't mind, here's something I blended myself:

Blend Title: Deep River Vs. Just A Moment
Genre: J-Pop/Hip-Hop/Rap
Artists: Utada Hikaru, Nas, & Quan
Albums Involved: Deep River (Utada, 2002), Street's Disciple (Nas, 2004)
Mixer: Carlo (yours truly)
Comments: Very introspective - for anyone who's going through a struggle but still wants to let the ones they love know that they're there for them. That means I often think of the Cloud/Aeris storyline when I listen to this.
In Case You Didn't Know (Or Otherwise Forgot): Utada is the young woman behind the Kingdom Hearts themes Simple And Clean and Passion and was the first asian artist to have a record ranked No. 1 worldwide, while Nas is arguably the best introspective rapper of all time and has been blowing up the airwaves with his new album Hip-Hop Is Dead, headlined by the single of the same name.

1st Chorus - Utada & Quan
Oh oh ikutsu mono kawa wo nagare wake mo kikazu ni
As day comes and night falls
For the rest of our lives, we'll miss y'all
And even though life must go on, we still mourn
While wishin' y'all were home

Ataerareta namae to tomo ni
As day comes and night falls
For the rest of our lives, we'll miss y'all
And even though life must go on, we still mourn
While wishin' y'all were home

Oh oh subete wo ukeireru nante shinakute ii yo
As day comes and night falls
For the rest of our lives, we'll miss y'all
And even though life must go on, we still mourn
While wishin' y'all were home

Watashitachi no itami ga ima tobidatta
As day comes and night falls
For the rest of our lives, we'll miss y'all
And even though life must go on, we still mourn
While wishin' y'all were home

2nd Verse - Nas (with Quan & Utada)
Yeah...and can we have another moment of silence?
For brothers who die from black-on-black violence
From here to the dark continent, where rebels sell diamonds
To clients all over the world, got little black girls dyin'
And can we please pour some more liquor?

That's why–that's why I chose you
For Will, Bokeem, Bar, Pappy, my n***as
Here's another warrior song from Nasty and Quan
It's to him I pass the baton to carry this on
(Street's Disciple) Salute to those who gone with bullets
And I promise to rhyme with Quan and rep this life to the fullest
And can we please have a moment of truth?
For soldiers and troops away with helmets and boots
And families back home that pray they make it home safe
Hopin' they don't get hit by a stray or missiles
This is just a moment to let you all know that we miss you
Mommy, I'm still here, wishin' I was there with you

3rd Verse - Utada & Quan
Ken to ken ga butsukariau oto o
Shiru tame ni takusareta ken ja nai yo
Sonna mujun de dare wo mamoreru no

And can we please have a moment to mourn?
Oh oh Nando mo sugata o kaete
Watashi no mae ni maiorita anata wo
Kyou wa sagashiteru

For Pac, Biggie and Pun, 'cause through us they live on
Jam Master Jay, Freaky Ty, and Aaliyah
Big L and Left Eye, when we die we hope to see ya
Can we please have a moment for children?
Who got raped or murdered, or trapped in the system
Who never knew their father, never learned to dream
But was guided by drug dealers, killers and crack fiends
For single mothers that's forced to play mom and dad
Bustin' her a** to give her kids s*** she never had

Oh oh Doko demo ukeirerareyou to
Shinaide ii yo
Jibun rashisa to iu tsurugi wo minna sazukatta

For my n***as in the pen hopin' rhymes'll get 'em signed
So when released, they can say bye to a life of crime
For very mother that held a son in the street bleedin'
Cryin' a song of sorrow to dark and deep for speakin'
Just a moment outside the day-to-day struggle
To let the ones we really care about know that we love 'em

2nd Chorus - Utada & Quan
Oh oh toki ni wa nagare wo kaete nani mo motazu ni
As day comes and night falls
For the rest of our lives, we'll miss y'all
And even though life must go on, we still mourn
While wishin' y'all were home

Ataerareta namae to tomo ni
As day comes and night falls
For the rest of our lives, we'll miss y'all
And even though life must go on, we still mourn
While wishin' y'all were home

Oh oh subete wo ukeireru nante shinakute ii yo
As day comes and night falls
For the rest of our lives, we'll miss y'all
And even though life must go on, we still mourn
While wishin' y'all were home

Shiokaze ni mukai toritachi ga ima tobidatta
As day comes and night falls
For the rest of our lives, we'll miss y'all
And even though life must go on, we still mourn
While wishin' y'all were home

And here's the fully English version:

1st Verse - Utada (with Quan)
Can we please have a moment of silence?
As it joins one point to another
That which my finger, drawing lines, traces
Is the road by which I came, or perhaps my destination
The two who tie one line to another
In the end, since everyone finds his way to the sea
I'm not afraid yet...

1st Chorus - Utada & Quan
Oh, oh, letting flow so many rivers without even paying heed to reason
As day comes and night falls
For the rest of our lives, we'll miss y'all
And even though life must go on, we still mourn
While wishin' y'all were home

Together with the names they have been given
As day comes and night falls
For the rest of our lives, we'll miss y'all
And even though life must go on, we still mourn
While wishin' y'all were home

Oh, oh, you don't have to accept everything, or anything of the sort
As day comes and night falls
For the rest of our lives, we'll miss y'all
And even though life must go on, we still mourn
While wishin' y'all were home

Our pain has now taken flight

This sword was not entrusted
In order for one to know the sound of two swords' striking;
Whom can one protect with such inconsistency

And can we please have a moment to mourn?
Oh, oh, changing form so many times
You, who softly alighted before me
Today, I search for you

For Pac, Biggie and Pun, 'cause through us they live on
Jam Master Jay, Freaky Ty, and Aaliyah
Big L and Left Eye, when we die we hope to see ya
Can we please have a moment for children?
Who got raped or murdered, or trapped in the system
Who never knew their father, never learned to dream
But was guided by drug dealers, killers and crack fiends
For single mothers that's forced to play mom and dad
Bustin' her a** to give her kids s*** she never had

Oh, oh, it is better not to think
That one should just allow one's self be accepted anywhere
A sword called Individuality is bequeathed to all

For my n***as in the pen hopin' rhymes'll get 'em signed
So when released, they can say bye to a life of crime
For very mother that held a son in the street bleedin'
Cryin' a song of sorrow to dark and deep for speakin'
Just a moment outside the day-to-day struggle
To let the ones we really care about know that we love 'em

2nd Chorus - Utada & Quan
Oh, oh, at times changing their course without carrying anything
As day comes and night falls
For the rest of our lives, we'll miss y'all
And even though life must go on, we still mourn
While wishin' y'all were home

Together with the names they have been given
As day comes and night falls
For the rest of our lives, we'll miss y'all
And even though life must go on, we still mourn
While wishin' y'all were home

Oh, oh, you don't have to accept everything, or anything of the sort
As day comes and night falls
For the rest of our lives, we'll miss y'all
And even though life must go on, we still mourn
While wishin' y'all were home

Turning to the sea breeze, the birds have taken flight
As day comes and night falls
For the rest of our lives, we'll miss y'all
And even though life must go on, we still mourn
While wishin' y'all were home
