Ok first of all i really don't know where to post this so here i go i'll just shove it here (sorry)
Well i'm thinking that maybe Square-Enix kinda had second thoughts about killing Aerith in FF7 after it was released. I think this because well she's been in other games if they wanted her to be a Character that died and stayed dead they wouldn't have her in other games you know? (i hope you understand what i'm saying) I just mean because Aerith was such a popular and relatable character that maybe they realised that afterwards, after the game was realesed :D well thats what i think and i think that Square-Enix would obviously NEVER admit it you know?
is it just me that feels this way? :) xxxx
No, I don't think they are having second thoughts, I think the fact that Aerith is still alive, in a sense, goes right along with FFVII's theme of "life".
From a Tetsuya Nomura interview contained in Game Maestro:
"To tell you the truth, FFVII's theme was 'life'. We had instructions from Mr. Sakaguchi saying, 'More than depicting life in the theme, you have to depict life and death. Anyhow you have to portray death.' With the death of a character, we wanted to have the player feel pain. So to do so, portraying the death of the heroine Aerith would be the most painful and important/heavy [on the feelings/emotions]. So, to portray death properly, it was decided that we would show Aerith's death."
And from Maiden of the Planet:
She was told that death was not the demise of life."
"Aerith knew that death didn't mean to be annihilated."
So, no, I don't think they are having second thoughts, I think they are still pushing the theme of "life" and the fact that death is not the end of life, that life continues on another plane. Aerith's death didn't cease her existence and she continues to live on in Cloud's heart and soul.
From Distance, the directors' commentary:
Nomura: "The words 'memetic legacy' are used a lot in the film but in AC, rather than focusing on memories we wanted to show that consciousness is what lives on. We took the ending of the game and expanded on that idea. Even if they're dead their consciousness is still with us. As for Cloud... he sees Aerith several times throughout the film. It's not that he sees her because he feels her presence. He sees her because her consciousness lives on inside him."
Ok thank you :)
I was just wandering to see what anyone else thought :D
And yeah i know what you mean about the Life thing
so thank you :D xxx
Right from the start, SE was planning to kill off a character... back when the original team was Cloud, Aerith and Barret.
They couldn't kill Cloud because he's a main character, so that leaves Aerith and Barret. They think that killing off Barret was cliche, so they use the character they felt would affect the players very much. And that's Aerith.
It's also to note that Aerith died a swift, cruel death. She never even gets to say any last speeches anime is so fond of (person is dying and talking with the one holding him/her goes emo, with me thinking why aren't they running to a hospital). So yes, I think her death was the one thing that made FFVII stand out back then.
