Title: Vincent
Description: A few questions

Anastar - January 26, 2005 12:30 AM (GMT)
In an interview with GanGan magazine, Nomura said this about Vincent:

"About Vincent, with a body that doesn’t age and is immortal, he’s a bit different from humans so I guess that’s why we took a chance in not changing his looks."

We never learned that Vincent was immortal in FFVII. Why would Nomura reveal that to us now? Is Vincent's immortality pertinent to the plot of AC? Is there a chance that AC will end in a similar way to FFVII, where we weren't certain whether or not the heroes survived? Vincent is the only one of the heroes seen alive in DC so far - is Square going to leave their survival inconclusive again to let us wonder?

Another thing about Vincent had me wondering, too. When Cloud rides Fenrir to the Sleeping Forest to rescue the children, Vincent rescued him. What was Vincent doing there? Had Vincent been in the Forgotten City for a reason?

Also, how did Vincent find out what causes Geostigma? How does he happen to know this piece of the puzzle?

Vincent apparently knows more about Geostigma than any of the FFVII heros. Why, I have no idea.

I think the way he is allows him to understand what goes on around him much easier than normal people. That and he does have a history with Shinra. Maybe he learned about something like this when he was first in the turks? I dunno.

Hopefully we'll learn more about him in AC and DC. I love him to death.

Well, we know for sure that Vincent is not the only survivor, as Cait Sith is also in DC. :D If Cait Sith is around, then Reeve must surely still be alive, right? ;)

But Reeve isn't in AC. I meant the other FFVII heroes, as in Barret, Cid, Red XIII, Tifa, and Yuffie. We've seen none of them in DC - the only one we've seen is Vincent, who is immortal. Since Nomura made it known that Vincent is immortal, will that mean something to the plot of AC? Are they going to make the survival of the heroes inconclusive again, like they did in FFVII?

And yes, Reeve has already been seen as a character in DC.

There is also the possibility that they are guarding who is seen in DC, so that we will sit around and wonder who survives AC. They may not want to spoil AC, so they are keeping quiet regarding other characters in DC. We may get some cameos yet. :D I am not sure if any of the other characters will be important, but it would be cool to at least see them (if they do survive AC).

Yes, that's a possibility... but why did Nomura tell us that Vincent is immortal when that wasn't revealed in FFVII? Doesn't the fact that Nomura told us that mean that it will probably be an important piece of information for us to know?

Does he mean immortal as in Vincent can never die? Or does he mean immortal as in Vincent doesn't age?

I took it to mean that Vincent can't die because Nomura said, "with a body that doesn’t age and is immortal". So Nomura seems to be saying that both are true.

Maybe he has something personal with the SHM. Or maybe he's done some investigating on his own. About Hojo and his so-called "offspring," maybe? Heck, Vincent should have some experience with 'research'. He was a Turk. XD

IMO you could just have one of them and it's be alright ^^; Or taking it in a sense that "he doesn't age [and thus] is immortal [because he won't ages and die like everyone else]".

Thanks for clarifying, Wilhelm! ... but regardless of why he's immortal, it's still a piece of information that Nomura gave us that wasn't revealed in FFVII. Does that mean it will have some importance to the plot? Having an immortal in a tale of Survival seems rather relevant to me.

That's sorta what I was thinking, too. Why would Vincent be in the Sleeping Forest? It's possible that the Forest just provides him with the kind of atmosphere and solitude that he desires, but it's also possible that he was in the Forgotten City to investigate something. Given that the SHM head to the Forgotten City with the children, there's got to be something significant there that they want. Vincent may have been aware of it, too, and was there to investigate when the SHM barged in.

Vincent also knows about the cause of Geostigma and has to inform Cloud what it is. I find it curious that Vincent knows when Cloud does not - if Cloud doesn't know, then it's not common knowledge. Since Vincent knows about it, then it's pretty obvious that Vincent's been investigating things.

BTW, there's a new Vincent action figure available for Dirge of Cerberes.
