"Cry" is the beautiful theme song to A Walk to Remember. The relationship between the two main characters is surprisingly similar to the relationship between Cloud and Aerith. A young man with a quiet, slightly cold exterior has his life forever changed by a kind, genuine young woman. I find that the song fits Aerith's perspective as she reminisces of her time with Cloud, from their first meeting to AC, after her passing. She was drawn to him, wanted to get closer to the real Cloud and wanted to help him get through his hardships. Cloud was devastated by her death, so much that she felt his heart breaking. Though their time together was brief, they impacted each other's lives tremendously.
