I present to you the essay I wrote for my creative writing class and uses FFVII as an example in one part. It got an A+. ^_^ Tell me what you think

Mary-Sue and Gary-Stu: She’s Been Around and He’s Just Weird

Mary-Sue has never lived her life in solitude. Well aside from maybe her sob story past but from the age range of fifteen to twenty-five she has met and fallen in love with more than one million people, every time it happens though it is true love. Mary-Sue is eternal. She will exist as long as selfishness, uncreative people, and self-insertion exist. Yet where is Mary-Sue with out her true love and hero: Gary. Although he has a few monikers, such as Marty, he is known most widely as Gary-Stu. Gary, unlike his precious bed fellow Mary, is dark and brooding with dark hair and red eyes. Yet, behind Gary’s cold and stoic exterior is a selfless and shy soul. Thus Mary, with her kind and exuberant ways, breaks him out of his shell. THUS is the relation of Mary and Gary.

True Love Happens Only Ten Billion Times in a Life Time
So, Mary lives forever. Yet, due to her great immortality true love is a constant yet never an odious event for her. Why, she’s been in love so many times she can hardly see life with out it! And oh the jealousy! Mary is so perfect that she herself turns into a masochist when she feels jealous yet the rest of the world is made up of selfish whores and demons. Let’s give an example! Mary and Gary are in love. Yet, Gary has a girl who is normally kind and gentle. We’ll call her…Helga. Although when Mary comes around this girl turns into a total bitch which is her “true” nature or so says the uncreative author. Now Gary is an oblivious ass who can’t see past her kind façade and thinks Mary is just being ridiculous. Eventually Mary exposes Helga for the fraud she is while simultaneously making Helga look like a fool. So now Gary wants nothing to do with Helga sense she’s turned into the wicked witch of the west at the sight of Mary. Well Mary’s immortality won’t let them be together forever so he just kind of disappears making way for the new man in Mary’s life.

Melodramatic, Egotistical, Oblivious, and Rude Jerks Make Awesome Boyfriends
This is Gary. Gary is rude, haughty, wears all black, sports red eyes, and completely oblivious to the world around him in spite his “worldliness”. But behind that façade beats the heart of a lover! He is heroic, loving, and freakishly perfect. Yet the hurt of his past won’t allow him to open up so he remains the stone called S.O.B. he always was. Now here comes Mary! Mary can see past the wall he puts up and tries to crack his shell. After a long time of serious talk and “accidental” romantic situations he cracks and spills his flowery pink guts to her. Oh, and they smell like French perfume! Now Gary must sort through his feelings for Mary, his faux-feelings for Helga, and the agony of his past which is some how related to all this crap.

Mary’s Rival: A Normal Character Who Got On The Author’s Bad Side
Let’s give an example from the Final Fantasy fandom. Cloud is in love with his beautiful and perfect childhood friend Tifa. After his little fall from the reactor, he crashed through the church roof. Now here is where the fan fiction author steps in. They warp Aerith’s outgoing and a little bit flirty nature into being a manipulative whore. This happens in the reverse as well. The author warps Aerith into a perfect angel and turns Tifa into an evil, two bit call girl. Now look at it like this: The girl that the fan fiction author wants him to be with his transformed into a goddess rather being an average, nice girl. In the same way, the author mutates a normal, kind girl into a slut with a taste for seducing ignorant men.
