Title: Memorable Movie Or Video Game Quotes
Description: Not necessarily the cliche' lines

aerisbolt - February 20, 2007 08:47 PM (GMT)
Hello everyone it is aerisbolt thinking about a topic that may have already been discussed but since I wasn't sure here I am again.

Last night I was watching the movie My Girl and it is a great little movie and for me has one of the sweetest lines I have ever heard in a movie. Some may find it cheeseball but I honestly thought it was a great line and showed the beauty of children. Of course I could be over thinking it and it wouldn't be the first time.

So are there any quotes from movies or video games that impacted you? And like usual I am looking for an explaination not just a list. If the quotes contain spoilers, you know the drill, please warn before posting. Thanks!

Here are some of mine, as mentioned above the line is from My Girl and does have a spoiler quality to it so please read at own risk:

"Don't worry about Thomas Jay, my mother will take care of him."

It is such a beautiful and powerful statement. It gives comfort to who she is talking to and also hope. It also shows the beauty of what can come from a child.

From FFVII: "....I think I can meet her there."

If you have not finished FFVII for some reason please stop reading.
I cannot speak for anyone but myself but this line really affected me the first time I finished the game. I thought it was amazingly sweet, it gave me hoep for the two of them to be reunited. It also left me with questions if there would be more to the story and I still wasn't quite sure what the Promised Land really was. In any case I thought this was a profoundly deep and romantic statement for a game that was very deep but had kept the romance to a minimum. It was one of the only satisfactory parts to what I felt at the time was an abrupt ending.

There are many more I would like to talk about but I have to go for now. I look forward to reading your thoughts!

Ah, My Girl. Everytime I think about that movie, I feel the need for a tissue  I always loved movies about innocent and not-so-innocent(in a non-dirty way of course) friendships between kids, growing pains, and all that. And somehow, they're more poignant if they have...tragic elements.

My contribution is from Stand By Me, another movie about the friendship, this time between 4 adolescent boys. I highlighted the quote. which is after an exchange between the two most sensitive boys in the group:

CHRIS: You could be a real writer someday, Gordie.

GORDIE: F*ck writing! I don't wanna be a writer! It's stupid! It's a stupid waste of time!

CHRIS: That's your dad talking.

GORDIE: Bullsh*t.

CHRIS: Bulltrue. I know how your dad feels about you, he doesn't give a sh*t about you. Denny was the one he cared about, and don't try to tell me different! You're just a kid, Gordie.

GORDIE: Oh gee, thanks, dad!

CHRIS: Wish the hell I was your dad. You wouldn't be going around talking about taking these stupid shop courses if I was. It's like God gave you something, man. All those stories that you can make up. An' he said: This is what we got for you, kid, try not to lose it. But kids lose everything unless there's someone there to look after them. And if your parents are too f*cked up to do it then maybe I should.

That's Chris, the streetwise kid, giving the shy Gordie the harsh truth about his screwed up family. I know it may sound cruel, but if you watch the movie it WAS true. Gordie's dad didn't care about him...didn't give a sh*t about him .
But Chris followed it up with the gentler, wiser quote that I'll always remember. Basically...'No one wants to watch out for you, but don't worry, I'll be there to watch out for you and make sure you don't make a mess out of yourself'. It just shows how strong a bond they had, true jfriendship. and considering that this was between two cussing, hormonal boys, I thought it was very poignant.
I also love the reverence that street-smart Chris gives to the art of writing; I'm a wannabe writer myself, you see. 'God gave you something'. Everytime I remember Chris saying that, I think, 'Oh yes, He did' :P

I also like Gordie's statement about Chris many years later. Spoilerific for the ending of the movie though, so read at your own risk!

GORDIE(telling us about what just happened to Chris):He was stabbed in the throat. He died almost instantly. Even though I hadn't seen him in more than 10 years, I know I'll miss him forever

It's sad when friends from our youth are disregarded, like they're unimportant in making you whole as a person. This statement just goes completely against that, makes us think of how friends can touch our lives, even when so much time has passed. Even made me feel better, despite what happened to Chris

Vesper Lynd: "You're not going to let me in there. You've got your armour back on. That's that."
James Bond: "I have no armour left. You've stripped it from me. Whatever is left of me - whatever is left of me - whatever I am - I'm yours."
CASINO ROYALE: 007

I think seeing James Bond say that one line changed how I've seen him forever.

Mary Jane Watson: [standing at Peter Parker's door] "Had to do what I had to do."
Peter Parker: "Mary Jane."
Mary Jane Watson: "Peter. I can't survive without you."
Peter Parker: "You shouldn't be here."
Mary Jane Watson: "I know you think we can't be together, but can't you respect me enough to let me make my own decision? I know there'll be risks but I want to face them with you. It's wrong that we should be only half alive... half of ourselves. I love you. So here I am - standing in your doorway. I have always been standing in your doorway. Isn't it about time somebody saved your life?"
Mary Jane Watson: "Well, say something."
Peter Parker: "Thank you, Mary Jane Watson."
Mary Jane Watson: [They kiss, which is interrupted by police sirens. Peter stands, conflicted on whether he should respond. Mary Jane, with an accepting smile, respond] "Go get 'em, tiger."
Spiderman 2

And this, well... I'm a sucker for Spiderman so I loved the movies. But this little moment between Peter and Mary-Jane was great to watch. Doing the whole "you shouldn't be here thing." Heh... I'm a sucker for it.

MORE TO COME...

~Little Miss Sunshine spoilers~

Not a fantastic line or anything like that but the scene that it triggers is why it sticks out in my mind. When Frank tells Dwayne "You can't fly jets if you're colourblind", it's one of the most emotional moments I have ever witnessed. I don't cry at movies, but this had me in tears. Dwayne's breakdown is so amazingly acted and it really feels like he's a real person, not just a character in a movie. The whole movie has memorable scenes but this one sticks out most.

*is a major sucker for movies*

Amadeus... (I chose these because they illustrate one of the most moving human dramas of modern cinema that I know of, and they are astoudingly written.)

Salieri: That was Mozart. That! That giggling dirty-minded creature I had just seen, crawling on the floor!

Salieri: Through my influence, I saw to it that Don Giovanni was played only five times in Vienna. But in secret, I went to every one of those five. Worshipping sounds I alone seemed to hear.

Salieri: I heard the music of true forgiveness filling the theater, conferring on all who sat there, perfect absolution. God was singing through this little man to all the world, unstoppable, making my defeat more bitter with every passing bar.

Breakfast at Tiffany's... (This one just always stuck out in my head, probably because it was just so perfect for the scene and was delivered perfectly.)

Paul: Because no matter where you run, you just end up running into yourself.

To Kill a Mockingbird... (Well, this is my favorite story of all time, and his simple explanation of the importance of compassion and empathy is really the epitome of that story.)

Atticus: You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.

V for Vendetta... (Because this movie is radical.)

V: People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.

Schindler's List... (This one is probably the most memorable line of a movie for me ever since I don't think any single line as made me cry harder.)

Oskar Schindler: I could have gotten one more person... and I didn't! And I... I didn't!

TransFormers The Movie:
all these quotes shaped my childhood in the 80's, I dont need to explain why these stick out, I think just reading them you'll understand the situation and how it can impact a wide eyed child of the 80's. (btw, check facts out, this movie caused tons of kids to run from the theatre in tears, these quotes mean alot)

Springer: I've got better things to do tonight than die!

#2
[before the greatest battle ever fought]
Megatron: Prime.
Optimus Prime: One shall stand, one shall fall.

Starscream: Who disrupts my coronation?
Galvatron: Coronation, Starscream? This is bad comedy.
Starscream: Megatron? Is that you?
Galvatron: Here's a hint!
[transforms and shoots Starscream. Starscream crackles and falls to dust]

#4
Kup: Reminds me of the Nighteth Slave Mines on Galganeth Seven.
