Title: A Cute Little Something <3
Description: spoilers?

EnglishRose - February 10, 2007 10:40 AM (GMT)
I noticed something while I was playing the game that made laugh, in a good way! It reminded me of CloudxAerith. This is going to be hard to explain, since I have no screenshots of the scene I'm mentioning, so bear with me--

Please note: I haven't typed everything that happens in the following video sequence, just the highlights of it. :)

In the video sequence just before the level Empire in Ruins (after you've defeated Rosso) you see Vincent standing outside the old ShinRa HQ building. Vincent gets a phone call from Shelke, and while they're talking, Shelke suddenly starts speaking like Lucrecia. Vincent turns around to see a hologram of Lucrecia walking towards him, and Vincent says her name.

At that moment, the camera zooms to his eye, and you see Lucrecia reflected in it... and then she disappears. As soon as that happened, I almost had a panic attack.

Notice, anything at all? ~cheesy grin~

I'm not sure if VincentxLucrecia is canon, but isn't it official that Vincent definitely... liked Lucrecia? After all, one of Vincent's memories of her is a bloomin' picnic together under the shade of a tree among the flowers!

Woah; that's interesting. Can anyone find any screenshots of this?

I always considered Vincent/Lucrecia as canon... Do I assume too much?

Their story is a little too complicated to call them a definate canon, but I like the idea of them together than any other FFVII couple.

I beat the game about five days after it came out so I don't remember the exact scene. I would also love some screenshots to compare. ^_^

I have some pictures taken with my camera. Bad focus and all that, but you can still see my point in the picture below:

Oh, I had forgotten all about that! It's true, Vincrecia is extremely similar to ClAeris! From my LT page:

- Vincent Valentine is an ex-member of the Turks, an elite band of gunmen loyal to Shinra (strikingly similar to Cloud, who was previously employed by Shinra). Vincent is quiet, withdrawn, and melancholy. His personality is, in fact, very much like Cloud's and the creators of FF have remarked about this on more than one occasion. Vincent, like Cloud, was also experimented-upon by Hojo, but to a greater degree. Vincent believes that his greatest sin is that he could not save Lucrecia, the woman he loved. Cloud also believes his greatest sin is that he could not save Aerith, the woman he loved. In fact, Cloud asks Vincent in AC if sins could be forgiven, showing the similarities between their "sins". I believe Cloud felt he could open up to Vincent about his guilt because Vincent would understand.

- Lucrecia Crescent is a beautiful and brilliant scientist employed by Shinra. Not only does she physically resemble Aerith with her chestnut hair tied back with a ribbon and her fluffy bangs, but her personality is very much like Aerith. Cheerful, sweet, and outgoing, Lucrecia often likes to tease Vincent, just as Aerith often liked to tease Cloud. Lucrecia even has Aerith's cute pose of bending forward to peer up into people's faces. Lucrecia is also portrayed as being surrounded by white light in the final FMV, just as Aerith is often portrayed surrounded by light. Lucrecia and Aerith were both experimented upon by Hojo. And Lucrecia and Aerith both took on dangerous tasks (Lucrecia going forward with the experiments on herself and Aerith going to the Forgotten Capital to pray for Holy, where she was sure to meet Sephiroth). Also, neither Lucrecia nor Aerith ever blamed Vincent or Cloud for what happened to them, even though Vincent and Cloud blamed themselves.

The similarities between Vincrecia and ClAeris are unbelievable, don't you think? And I haven't even finished letting you in on all the many ways these two pairings are alike! More similarities: Vincent was Lucrecia's bodyguard, just as Cloud was Aerith's bodyguard. Vincent and Lucrecia share a scene in a flower field, just as Cloud and Aerith shared scenes together in a flower field. Vincent hangs around in Lucrecia's cave, just as Cloud hangs around in Aerith's church. Vincent can hear/see Lucrecia, just as Cloud can hear/see Aerith. Also, we see yet another couple that portrays a love that endures time, separation, and even death. So we have CloudxAerith, TidusxYuna, ShuyinxLenne, and now VincentxLucrecia.

And, yeah, I need to also add RaslerxAshe to that list. :D

ER, that's fantastic! I always loved Vincent/Lucrecia, and I love this new (albeit superficial) parallel between them and Cleris. Great analysis, by the way, FFG! ^_^

EnglishRose - February 15, 2007 04:54 PM (GMT)
Wow... I never really noticed that. That is a good analysis, FFG!

Anti-R - February 18, 2007 02:24 AM (GMT)
Woah. I did not remember that. ^.^ Thanks for putting that out, ER!

But yeah, DoC confirms that Vincent and Lucrecia love each other, except that theirs didn't lead a very happy ending.

EnglishRose - February 19, 2007 02:19 PM (GMT)
Happy Shmappy. They have the same parallelisms!

The deeper I get into FFVII and its characters, the more I realize Cloud and Vincent are a lot alike...I find this to be intentional on part of the creators, especially the whole "the-lost-love-of-your-life-in-ghostly-form" appearing in the reflections of their eyes. I think it's just awesome *dies*

Lol, I've always felt that VinCretia was a parallelism of Cleris, except maybe it's a "what-if". What if Cloud let his guilt and pain really take hold of him, like Vincent did? We saw a bit of that in AC but Cloud was able to fix it before he lost himself to it.

I've been replaying FFVII, and when I found Vincent in the Coffin, I read a delightful little quote that made me squee. 'Tis official.

Vincent (having just asked Cloud if he ever knew Lucrecia and then getting all depressed...you know, Vincent-like): "I let the one I loved, the one I respected most, face the worst."

Plus, the lovely proofs that FF_G posted, that pretty much wraps it up, huh? ^^

Anti-R - March 11, 2007 03:09 PM (GMT)
Well, it's been confirmed that Vincent loves Lucrecia. Back then before the Compilation was born, the issue between them actually was did Lucrecia ever reciprocated his feelings. She was quite vague when she and Vincent meets again in that cave, after all.

DoC answered those questions. Yes, Lucrecia does love him but chose to stay away. Which led to a lot of problems.

This topic is old, and my replying to it is highly unfashionable.... But I must say something about Vincent and Lucrecia.

I do believe Lucrecia returned Vincent's love before they were separated. The evidence is simple, yet often overlooked.

In a flashback you witness during the encounter with Lucrecia behind the waterfall, the pair is shown walking very close together. The only other time you see the sprites touching like this is when two characters are a designated couple. If you'll look back to when Cloud takes the train to Sector Seven, wayyy in the beginning of the game, you may recall someone disembarking and going to meet a person waiting nearby. One runs toward the other, and the woman lifts the man and twirls him around. They soon make their way out of the train station, walking slowly and VERY close together. These two are clearly in love.

The only time people walk like this in FFVII is when they are lovers. The flashback of Vincent and Lucrecia clearly indicates that they were, at least for a while, deeply involved. Other scenes during the flashback further validate this.

My understanding of the flashback is that Vincent fell in love with Lucrecia, a member of the team of Shin-Ra scientists sent to experiment on Jenova. They hit it off and began dating; they got serious.... But perhaps Lucrecia's loyalty to her work conflicted with her relationship with Vincent. Whatever the reason, the lovers encountered an insurmountable problem. This is suggested by the scene in which the two appear to be exchanging angry words. One of the very next things you see is Lucrecia running to Hojo, who appears to be gloating. Now, doesn't that look A LOT like a lover's quarrel gone horribly wrong? It's classic.

My guess is that Lucrecia was a workaholic, or Vincent discovered the evil nature of Hojo's work and tried to pull her away from it. Maybe Vincent was being irrationally jealous, and mistook Lu's devotion to the Jenova Project as something else. Maybe he was [i[right[/i], and his girlfriend was showing affection to her fellow scientist because she spent so much time in the lab. Perhaps Lu got pregnant during her relationship with Vincent, and he discovered the scientists' plan to experiment on the fetus. Any number of things could have caused them problems, but they were most certainly a couple for a while.

Fans of the game frequently overlook the waterfall event.... I can only assume that is because the scene happens so quickly, and that it is so jumbled, and that there is no dialogue at all. Careful and repeated analysis of the waterfall event, of certain dialogue, and some of Vincent's behaviour have led me to believe quite strongly that Vincent and Lucrecia are canon.

I know this was rambly and ill-put together and horribly late.... But I have an irrepressible urge to participate in discussions about this couple. ^ ^;
