Title: Tell Me This Is Not The Stupidest Thing...
The_Krazie_Chick - February 9, 2007 01:40 AM (GMT)
OK. I was walking down the hall to the library with my best friends. Now when we walk together, we link our arms. Nothing wrong with that, right? Nope, apparently it's a crime against nature.
In the middle of the hallway, some lady stops us and VERY RUDELY tells us that she's been getting complaints. Complaints that they people are intimidated when they can't get by, and that she'll give us lunch detention if she ever sees do it again.
Who the hell is intimidated by 3 7th grade girls walking down the hall? And why the hell can't they go around? This just pisses me off, I can't believe I'll get lunch detention if some old hag sees me LINKING ARMS WITH MY FRIENDS.
This is...It's wrong, dammit! This is honestly one of the more retarded things I've ever heard in my entire life.
OH! Old Hag Lady even had the nerve to say that "we're big girls" now and can walk by ourselves "like normal people". I hate her. GOD. I am so pissed right now...I've already vented at about 5 people, and I'm still mad...
One more thing. Old Hag Lady wasn't even being remotely nice about it! I probably wouldn't have such a problem with it if she had been like: "Hey girls, I know it's a little weird but I've been getting complaints about people not getting through and being intimidated when girls link their arms _______________"
Uggh. Anyway, it felt good to vent, come share the sheer retarded-ness of this "new rule"!

Um, I'm not sure how much discussion you're looking for this, but I gotta say I get pretty annoyed when a bunch of friends clog up the hallways. I have a habit of walking really fast from class to class, and it grates my cookies everytime I run into this huge group practically dragging themselves across the floor, and the rest of us are forced to follow like turtles behind them.
That said, I think "lunch detention" is a ridiculously extreme way of handling things. Plus, I can't imagine 3 girls walking hand-in-hand actually taking up much room... unless it's a really narrow hallway...

Eh, Yeah, I mean it is far from intimidating but certainly irritating. When I'm running to class in the 2 minutes of hall pass time there is in my high school, Freshmen do that a lot and I can't get by. I basically have to push and shove to get through, then I'm labeled rude. But if you ask them to move they don't. And, in the end, I end up late to class. <_< Now she could've given you a nicer warning but at least it wasn't an auto-detention, right?

Second this =x
If it's a really narrow walkway, then just try to refrain from linking your arms when you're along that path =/ It's just basic manners to leave space for people who are in a hurry to pass.
Having said that, the people who complain to that woman are wierd too.
If I were there, I'll just "excuse me " my way through.. D:

Totally agree. I only have three minutes to get from one class to the next without getting detention, so I rush a bit in the hallways. Sometimes a roadblock of freshmen get in my way (I swear, they travel in packs), and I can't get around them. It's just annoying. Intimidating? Definitely not. Worth detention? Definitely not.
Just to expand the conversation a bit, I'll share my own recent experience with an old hag making up a very stupid rule (or at least it's a stupid rule in my book).
Every other day, I have the last ten minutes of first period off (long story), so I usually go to the library to hang out with my friends. During the last ten minutes of first period, the morning announcements always come on. They say the pledge of allegiance, and then make some announcements about clubs after school and what not.
Anyway, my school has a new librarian, and she's the archetypal old hag. According to a recent ruling by the Supreme Court, you cannot force a student to stand and recite the pledge of allegiance anymore because it has the word "God" in it. I make an effort to ALWAYS be seated during the pledge as my own insignificant form of protest.
{For those of you who aren't American and have no idea what I'm talking about, the Pledge of Allegiance is just this stupid paragraph that you're supposed to recite about how you "pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America." I think it's grossly nationalistic, and prefer pledging my allegiance to the betterment of all living creatures, so I never recite it when I'm supposed to}
Last week, during the pledge, the new librarian started shouting at people who were sitting, "YOU HAVE TO STAND FOR THE PLEDGE. GET UP. YOU HAVE TO STAND." Everyone listened, except me. So she came over to where I was sitting, and started tugging at my arm, telling me that I had to stand during the pledge. All I said was, "Actually, you can't make us stand. We're allowed to stay seated." She said I was being disrespectful and rude to the flag, so I said, "I think it's disrespectful that you would try to make me pledge allegiance to a piece of cloth." That was the end of the conversation.
Today, I was in the library again during the announcements. And again, I was sitting during the pledge. And again, she came over, and demanded that I stand up. So I told her to f*** off. And that is the story of how I got banned from the library for the rest of the week. :)

How much of the hallway do you guys take up linking arms?? I can imagine it could take up quite alot of room, and it's true nobody can pass by. That said, it's not the ladies fault either. She heard a complain from students and she's doing something about it.
And also... it's lunch detention. Seriously, it's not that bad. In fact I had lunch detention with my friends all the time. Seriously all the time. We would gain more days of lunch detention for playing around and messing with the teachers that were watching us DURING LUNCH DETENTION. Hah.
Really now. Having to eat your lunch in a seperate place other than the lunch room isn't that bad. Lol.
And plus all you have to do is UNLINK YOUR ARMS when you see someone coming towards you. You do have that common courtesy right? ^_~ If not, then you probably do deserve the lunch detention.

oh krazie chick, its ok i so know how you feel :( . in the 4th and 5th grade me and my buds would all walk out to the black top from the lunch room with our arms linked. and there was this snichy yard duty always blocking our path  . she would hussle up to us and start scream'in at us for linking our arms say it was "sexual harassment" and took up the hallway space. it freaking drived me insane! so... :ermm:
1 how is linking your arms sexual harassment?
2 we took up not even one third of the hallway!
krazie chick im here for you! and yes i think it lunch detention is just over the line for just linking your arms.
