Title: The Flowerfield Scenes
Description: In FFVII:AC and FFVIII

Hi everyone. I was reading recently about the ending of FFVIII and I am sure people have mentioned t before at different times but I never saw a thread dedicated to the similarites between FVIII flowerfield scene with Rinoa and Aeris in the Calling ending of FFVII:AC. Do the Japanese have a symbolic reference of some sort having to do with people waiting in flowerfields? A lot of us have heard about other symbolic references such as the pink ribbon and so forth. I just found it fascinating that both seem to stand in similar positions and appear to be waiting for someone, both towards the end of their respective stories.
It just seems like more than sheer coincidence to me but then again I sometimes over analyze things that probably should be just left alone and just would like to know your thoughts on the subject.
And of course if there is a similar thread I apologize. Thanks!

I've never come across anything about Japanese symbolism and flowerfields, but then again, I'm no expert in that field. XD I think it's mostly to do with the romantic nature of a vast flowerfield, stretching to infinity, the world an eternity away and two lovers all to themselves.
(And with Aerith, well-- flowers ARE Aerith. She's practically trademarked them. )
I have to admit, other than that, I've never really given thought to deeper implications. I have heard of this type of scene being repeated in other movies, but I still think it's mostly because it's a very romantic setting (just look at all the squeeing about Cloud and Tifa lying in the flowerbed :whistle2: ).

I think it's hilarious how CloTi's take the whole "Cloud and Tifa laying in a flowerbed together" logic and make it something to be that just isn't. How is Tifa associated with flowers again? Can somebody remind me? :ermm: :giggle:
Anyway, everytime I see anything that is a field of flowers, my mind immediately drifts to CloudxAerith or SquallxRinoa but as for it being symbolic, I can't recall anything like that, but what do I know? All I know is that the flowerfield, just like Lynn says, is a very romantic setting. Hence why my mind goes to CloudxAerith or SquallxRinoa! ^_^ :cleris:

Lady Aerith: Yeah I have never been able to grasp why Cloti's say that Tifa and Cloud laying in those flowers because they both passed out in pain is a romantic scene. I found their positions interesting, being ying and yang. And then of course there is the fact that they are flowers you can say are connected with Aerith, in the church she liked to come to, where Cloud was staying by himself without much contact hence why Tifa and Marlene were there in the first place  But then I am a dellusional Cleris and what do I know?
In any case as Lynn pointed out about Aerith and flowers, I did think that Aerith standing in the flower field may have to do with it being more of a correlation of her with flowers and the field is similiar to the one where he talks to her back to back and maybe that is all it was suppose to stand for but at the same time the scene with Rinoa is very probably known by most FF fans since part of it was shown in the opening and then towards the end.
I still would love to know why there were so many similiar characteristics. I am not a huge fan a Rinoa and her realtionship with Squall but as weird of an ending as FFVIII had there could be something said for both men searching and feeling lost and in both cases the woman seem to find a way to bring them out of their despair.... Oh maybe I should just stop
I think for me more than the actual flowerfield it was the visual of them both waitng and moving in similiar patterns Honestly I can't remember either perfectly I think that there was obviously alot more visually going on in FFVIII flowerfield scene with the angel wings coming to life and the feather etc. then with Calling but I was wondering if anyone has used it in a debate piece while conversing with a Cloti..or is is just way to easy to throw it up to interpretation to be really disected? I think it would be interesting to see what they would have to say about the observation.

Well, at the beginning of FFVIII Rinoa is shown waiting for Squall in a field full of pink, white, and yellow flowers. In "Calling", Aerith is shown waiting for Cloud in a field full of yellow and white flowers. I don't know if S-E is purposely trying to draw parallels between a canon couple and ClAeris to subtley show that ClAeris is the true couple or not. But, to me, the flower field is definitely romantic. Don't forget, a flower field was also used in DoC during the picnic Lucrecia planned for Vincent. Flower field= ClAeris. CloTis can talk all they want about their little scraps Nomura threw them. Cloud lying unconscious in Aerith's church, in Aerith's flowers, with Aerith's music playing, surrounded by Aerith's white light, with a wolf nearby that is symbolic of Cloud's guilt over Aerith's death, in a scene that is all about foreshadowing Aerith's later appearance and how Aerith heals Cloud and Tifa is hardly CloTi. It's called "denial".

Tidus and Yuna meet in Farplane that looks like a flowerfield as well in X-2.
Just a need to point it out.

Ah, yes, very good point, Anti-R! :D And didn't Shuyin and Lenne reunite and go to the Farplane together (which is a giant flower field)? :shifty:
LadyAerith - February 8, 2007 05:11 PM (GMT)
There was a scene in X-2 where Yuna ended up on the Farplane in all of those flowers and Shuyin appeared. Yuna thought at first it was Shuyin because of his remarkable resemblence to Tidus. Shuyin thought she was Lenne seeing as how she was wearing Lenne's Dressphere. That's another thing about flower fields there. They're even connected to YunaxTidus and LennexShuyin. I think Shuyin and Lenne ended up back in that flower field together. Also, Yuna hears Tidus's whistle in that flower field on the Farplane. He also leads her out of there to safety as well when she falls in that massive hole. ^_^
