Title: Another Sig Query

Kusari Yarou - February 1, 2007 10:29 AM (GMT)
I want to know how to delete the white background of this sig I made...

I tried the Background Eraser on Photoshop but it remained stubbornly white, after I had saved it!
I want the letters and the butterflies to look like they're...popping out of the sig borders when I upload em, and the only background they have is the forum page and not that darn white rectangle. Like Cloud and Aerith in Aly's sig here.

Please help...I don't want the purdy sig I made to be wasted!

To make it turn out like Anastar's sig, you have to save it as a transparent GIF file after removing the white background (and getting the grey-and-white checkered background, which is the transparent portion). If you try to save it as a JPG file, it will automatically add a background to the transparent sections.

Usually, I don't like making it a GIF. If you look closely at Anastar's sig, there's a rough, dotty border around the top half of Cloud and Aerith. Just personal preference, but I don't like when that happens. I'm not too sure how this all works, but I think that's caused by saving it as a transparent GIF.

What I usually like to do is make the background colour the same as the background of the forum (in this case, pink) and save it as a JPG. When I wear it here, the pink background blends into the forum background, so it looks like one smooth picture leaping out from the screen.

Also, if you made it transparent in the first place, if you save it as a .PNG file type, the transparency should remain in tact and the quality of the image usually isnt ruined. I can give it a go if you'd like me to try and erase the white for you...

The only downside to saving transparent graphics to .PNG is that in certain web browsers, the transparency parts show up an unappealing gray background. But, if that doesn't bother you, then give it a try.

Like this? If so, I did it by selecting the white area and just deleting it.

That's a .PNG file.

Oh, thank you!!! I tried deleting it too but I didn't do as good a job as you did. Thanks! *saves*

Lotsa thanks to everybody for the advice and offers! :huggle:

EDIT: Scott, it now has a white background whereas it was transparent yesterday 0_o and on Photobucket, it has a BLACK background! What the heck...:dunno:
