Title: Your Life's Soundtrack
Description: What would yours be?
Kaldea - January 17, 2007 02:08 PM (GMT)
If your life was a movie (up until now), what songs would you choose to be your soundtrack? Choose 10-15 songs and explain them if you're bored enough. Just make sure they are songs that relate to you and your life, not songs that you just heard one day and decided you enjoyed.
Since I have insomnia, I suppose I'll explain mine. Emo warning.
1) Quicksand by Incubus
The melody translates most of my feelings like words never could. For such a short song, it really means a lot to me, and if I were ever characterized by a song, this would be it.
2) Suburbia by Matthew Good Band
This song is a theme song of an age where I kinda found out what love and maturity really is like. The song is confusing, beautiful and uplifting all at the same time. Almost gives a sense of hope.
3) Oil and Water by Incubus
To me, this song represents what I'd love to be like. Even though the lyrics talk about a couple's differences, the energy it gives off makes me feel like someone I wish I could be. I suppose Brandon Boyd is just able to create energy with his voice that I feel is a part of me in some way.
4) Change of Season by Matthew Good Band
Another confusing yet uplifting song. Matt has the ability to make lyrics that while seem confusing to others, they make complete and perfect sense to you. Almost characteristic of myself.
5) Here in My Room by Incubus
The happiest I ever felt was when I heard this song for the first time. I still feel it when I hear it and so it goes here!
6) Giant by Matthew Good Band
Noticing a trend here? Only two bands have ever made me feel like surpassing humanity and I think you can guess which ones. The soft melody of this song appeals to me greatly and still makes me emotional. It's like the song's sound hints at a forgotten story waiting to be told again.
7) Warning by Incubus
Whenever I hear this song, it reminds me of the saying that ignorance is bliss. It symbolizes a new, life changing beginning.
8) The Man From Harold Wood by Matthew Good Band
No lyrics to this song. Just an amazingly beautiful piano melody with various other sound effects. This song is the theme song of my simple, more life-enjoying self where everything is beautiful and nothing is wrong.
9) Flight Recorder From Viking 7 by Matthew Good Band
Almost an extention of the last song, though very sad sounding. Matt and another female singer sing confusing lyrics (again) in a way that just gets to you.
10) Advertising on Police Cars by Matthew Good Band
Yet ANOTHER beautiful song, though this one symbolizes a kind of darkness to me. Not a bad thing though... Just makes me a little sad when I hear it. Matt's voice echoes in the end and it's just...very beautiful.
11) Sort of a Protest Song by Matthew Good Band
I think of sunset when I hear this one. Mainly because it was almost always sunset whenever I listened to it. But to be more detailed, a winter sunset. It makes me feel like something is ending and it may never come back.
12) Weapon by Matthew Good
Another new beginning song. Very energetic and uplifting with the usual confusing yet awesome lyrics by Matt. Not to mention how inspiring the video for it was. Gain the world but lose yourself, indeed.
13) Aqueous Transmission by Incubus
This song gives me a "night" feel. Very soothing and almost Asian sounding. Damn Brandon Boyd for is awesome-ish-ness.
14) Stellar by Incubus
Had to add a love-ish song I suppose. Again, beautiful melody with equally beautiful lyrics.
15) Teardrop by Incubus
They did this as a cover for another band... I think Massive Attack did this one originally... But anyway, Brandon did this one live and it was still perfect. If a song could ever be classified as "pretty", this would be it.
So hard to choose songs... Anyway, your turn!
Lutearina - January 17, 2007 04:40 PM (GMT)
Lute's turn, eh? Well, I have to go to school, but when I can go more in-depth, I will. :3
Currently, my number one song is For Fruits Basket. You're all probably going WTF? But the lyrics really helped me these past weeks when I was, in all seriousness, EMOOO. XP I don't believe I had ever been as depressed as that before. Well, because I'm normally not depressed, probably. So, whenever I thought I would never be able to feel okay again, I just sang For Fruits Basket. It uplifted me in a time of need; and I am eternally grateful for that.
No, I am not too serious for a thirteen year old; whatever do you mean?
I'm fourteen in two weeks. See? I'm not thirteen.

Cool topic. :)
"Love and Some Verses" by Iron & Wine
I always felt like this song was about love and openness with those you care a lot about. Most of my life, I've been the kind of person who loves so much, but keeps to themselves despite how much they care.
"Street Fighting Man" by The Rolling Stones
I want revolution, I want change, I want the world to be different. But what can someone like me do? That's why I really relate to this song. Because this song's about wanting injustice and the world to change, but not having the power and still trying.
"Across the Universe" by The Beatles
The description of emotions and yet the peacful love inherent in this song always connected with me. It reminds me of that happy admiration for the simple beauty of life, an unchanging beauty.
"Imagine" by John Lennon
Yeah, I'm a dreamer. And this song pretty much describes everything I could hope for in the world.
"Sappy" by Nirvana
Almost sums up all my feelings about organized religion.
"Sleep Now in the Fire" by Rage Against the Machine
Despite my whole "peace, love, empathy" thing, the injustice and brutality in the world disgusts me a lot. And since this song is a testimony against such exploitations, it would make a good song on the soundtrack of my life.
"Under Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie
This song epitomizes my high school mantra and everything I've learned these past four years of life about friendship, love, and myself.
"Seasons of Love" from Rent
These beautiful lyrics illustrate my view on life. Every moment that passes by without love is a moment wasted.
"Third Eye" by Tool
This one has a lot to do with meditation, and it's a pretty good track to represent my spirituality which is a really important part of my life.
The theme from To Kill A Mockingbird
If you don't know this melody, you should download it right now (or watch the opening credits of the movie :P ). It's so full of tenderness; I almost cry every time I listen to it. Maybe because it reminds me so much of the story, this song brings me back to my childhood, back to when everything was simple and blessed with the ignorance of being a child. And it never fails to remind me of the ideals I hold most important: acceptance, love, empathy, understanding...

1) Anything But Love by Squirrel Nut Zippers
Simply because I hate it when romance is all my friends talk about. My best friend is desperate for a boyfriend and everyone else is in and out of relationships like crazy. It's seriously annoying.
2) Third Planet by Modest Mouse
It's my feelings all summed up in a song. It sort of puts out my personal frustration in a peaceful song.
3) The Movie by Dispatch
It's what I invision my days as a toothless old granny being like.
4) Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle
Because I'm an awful daddy's girl
5) I Am Weary (Let Me Rest) by The Cox Family
Because at times, life just wears me down and this song reminds me of that feeling.
6) Roxanne by The Police
Even though I am not an ex-prostitute, I feel a sort of identification with Roxanne. Something in my life has gotten better ever since I met my boyfriend.
7) Ninety-Nine Luft Balloons - Nena
I hate war. I wish it would end or else we may get what this song tells of...
8) What It's Like - Everlast
A song that truly tells of what the world is like beyond our optimistic fantasies.
9) White and Nerdy - Weird Al Yankovic
XD Because it's what I am!
10) Shelter From The Storm - Bob Dylan
The woman described is so much like my late-grandmother who I loved.
11) Under Pressure - David Bowie and Queen
When they speak of trying to bring love back and how we can't accept it because it would force us away from our selfish ways is so very profound.
12) Baby Got Back - Sir Mix Alot
Okay, I accept it. My butt is kinda big. XP
13) Can You Feel The Love Tonight - Elton John
This song describes so eloquently what my feelings on true love is.
14) Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
Like with Roxanne, I may not have killed any one but I have felt the shame of the character being vocalised by Freddy Mercury. How he feels he has failed himself and his family due to his actions.
15) Don't Cry - Seal
I wish I could just tell everyone it will be okay
16) Return To Innocence - Enigma
It is true that if you try really hard, you can get back there.
17) Hungry Like The Wolf - Duran Duran
My boyfriend often uses this song to describe his courting me

Aqua ~ Barbie Girl
OK, this song is a childhood song to me... I loved Barbie with a passion when I was seven. I actually still like Barbie. ^^ Although, when I was 10, I was like "EEWWW, BARBIE'S ARE FOR BABIES1!!." Anyways, Barbie kinda has a little piece of my heart. I always wanted to be like Barbie when I was little... I wanted to be pretty, and talented.
James Blunt ~ Goodbye My Lover
The song is beautiful... I want to cry everytime I listen to it... lately, I've felt extremely stressed and depressed... mostly because of a personal relationship. But, even though its depressing, sometimes I need to cry.. it makes me feel so much better after. It send's a message that I can relate to. The lyrics are similar to how I feel at times...
Ian Van Dahl ~ Waiting For You
I listen to this song when I think about the situation I'm in sometimes. For some people, I'm waiting. I don't ever want to be left alone, or hanging. I'm always waiting. And, I'm willing to wait. Without that person... I feel as if I'm lost.... I couldn't imagine my life without the person...
Yukari - January 18, 2007 01:46 AM (GMT)
Ooh, this topic was a great idea. I got to thinking about the last few years and became a tad nostalgic for days gone by, heh. Anyway.
1: Vienna Teng - The Tower
I just find this song really reminds me of the way I can be sometimes. I always try to be someone that people can come to when they need support, but I never seek out anyone else to help me. I'll make myself believe that I'm alright, that my feelings don't matter, even though inside I might need someone to support me, and I'm so good at hiding that fact that my family and friends don't see.
2: Utada Hikaru - Keep Tryin'
This song always helps me to think positive, and helps me remember that there are things that I want to do, and I can't do those things unless I actually take some action. Maybe sometimes I don't want to do anything and I'd rather sleep than go to a university lecture, or just do the least amount of work possible to get by, but if I push myself to do the best instead of just 'okay', then I'll feel much happier with the results.
3: The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony
Because it's just... what people are like. There's a lyric that goes 'and I'm a million different people from one day to the next, I can't change my mould', and it reminds me that even if we want to be someone else, we can never change completely. We will always be ourselves, no matter how much we try to fight against it, and the people who really know us will always recognise that part of us.
4: Fiona Apple - Fast As You Can
It reminds me of myself... I'm not like it all the time, but I can be unreasonable and my head can sometimes be all over the place, and I wonder whether the people who care about me actually know the things I think and feel when I'm like that.
5: Prince (though I prefer Ani DiFranco's cover) - When Doves Cry
This reminds me of a certain someone, and it makes me smirk whenever I hear it.
6: Arctic Monkeys - Mardy Bum
Because it's so true! I can't really get in a mood with someone any more because I think of this and realise I'm being just like the girl in the song, and it makes me laugh.
7: Katrina and The Waves - Walkin' On Sunshine
It was released in the year I was born, and it played in the club I was in with my friends on my 18th birthday, so it has a certain meaning to me. It reminds me of some of the happiest moments of my life, and the song itself is such a catchy, feel-good tune that it never fails to make me happy.
8: Bon Jovi - Living On A Prayer
It's so uplifting. I just love the chorus, especially 'take my hand and we'll make it, I swear'. It's another song that reminds me of some great times in my life.
9: Bryan Adams - Summer of '69
It's the karaoke song me and my brother duet to. Every time I think of it, I think of him, and it makes me smile that we're close now. When we were younger, we hated each other, and we'd always fight.
10: Death Cab For Cutie - Summer Skin
The lyrics are so vivid and I can almost see this summery scene in front of me, and the bittersweetness of the lyrics, this idea of love in the summer that just fades when the seasons change, really touches me.
11: Embrace - Nature's Law
The chorus strikes a chord in me. 'You should never fight your feelings, when your very bones believe them, you should never fight your feelings, you have to follow nature's law'. The actual song is about fighting your feelings for someone else's sake.
12: Randy Crawford - Rainy Night In Georgia
This song always comforts me and makes me feel like snuggling up in my duvet and just enjoying the warmth. My dad used to play it a lot when I was little, so it reminds me of those times when I had no worries or responsibilities.
13: Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars
Sums up last summer completely. It always makes me a little sad to hear this song, but I love it. Makes me think of summer sunsets and warm afternoons.
14: Tori Amos - Winter
This song just really touches me. It makes me think of how I've grown as a person and become self reliant.

3: The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony
Because it's just... what people are like. There's a lyric that goes 'and I'm a million different people from one day to the next, I can't change my mould', and it reminds me that even if we want to be someone else, we can never change completely. I totally agree with you. Bittersweet Symphony could be the song about almost anyone's life. It's one of my favorite songs.
Here I go...quite a random selection.
1) The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony
It's just the perfect song... so easy to relate to, as Yukari explains. ^^
2) Chopin's Nocturne in G Minor
Haha, leave it to Aurora to pick a classical song. ^^ It's a piano song. Whenever I hear it, I think about how harsh Chopin's life was. His life is so full of loss and anguish. It sounds like he reminisces about his past and is telling a story...and when I hear it, I think about past experiences I've had with the people I love whom I've departed with. Even if I will never see them again, I will always have a place in my heart. But the feeling of loss is sometimes unbearable and drags on in my heart...which is to me what Chopin expresses clearly in this song.
3) My Chemical Romance - I'm Not Okay
Because it's my high school anthem. When I hear the song I think of the music video. XD Just reminds me of how much I hated high school and how much of a struggle it was to put up with rich, snobby , stuck-up kids who tortured me because I came from a poor family.
4) The Beatles - Here Comes the Sun
This song reminds me that no matter how bad it gets, tomorrow's always another day.
5) Anna Nalick - Breathe
This song reminds me of the times I've stayed up until at least 2am writing lyrics and poetry, staying up till 2am on the phone with my friend, and staying up until 2am thinking about the one I love. And life is an hourglass glued to the table.
6) Un bel di vedremo from Puccini's opera: Madama Butterfly
Simply because after I heard this piece, I decided to become an opera singer. One of the most emotional pieces I've heard in opera - it makes me cry every time I hear it...I hope to perform this one day, to give people that same effect successfully.
7) Der Hölle Rache from Mozart's Die Zauberflöte
The most amazing song I've ever heard...not a whole lot of professional sopranos can pull this off. I want to be able to sing this one day. Whenever I hear it, it makes me that much more determined not only musically but in life.
8) Home from Broadway's Beauty and the Beast
Reminds me of my harsh life I had when I used to live at home. I thought I would always be like a caged bird.
9) Flyleaf - Cassie
I've always been against school violence and spoke out about it publicly a lot throughout middle school and high school. This song is about about those who were killed at Columbine (Cassie and Rachel, who were supposedly asked "Do you believe God will save you now?" before they were shot).
10) KT Tunstall - Silent Sea
Reminds me of the one I love, who came crashing into my quiet life.
11) Eisley - I Wasn't Prepared
Because things always happen when you least expect them, or when you're the least prepared. And the lines "When the day is blue, I sit here wondering about you" and "Come back to me my darling" reminds me of the utter longing I've had for that one person I love.
12) Green Day - Wake Me Up When September Ends
It's the song for my best friend and I. ^^
13) OK Go - Get Over It
Reminds me to suck it up, be strong, stop bitching and GET OVER IT.
