Title: N00b To Macs

OK so I have a Macbook and I have no idea how to use this thing really... I'm a recent convert from Windows to Macintosh.

If someone could please help me it would be greatly appreciated. 'Cause my brother is clueless to macs also and he can't help meee. D:

Why am I not able to open .exe files, and is there a way that I can? I want to install some software for Mac OS X, but I can't install it unless it's a dmg file. BUT MOST OF THE FILES ARE .EXE *SOB* Please. I'm getting frustrated. :cray:

I have a MacBook too! *hugs it* I've used Macs since I was about ten though, so I should be able to help a bit - you can't run .exe files on a Mac unless you have Virtual PC or something similar.

What is it you're trying to install, Aurora? Is it something that came with the MacBook itself? Usually Software Update will tell you if there's new OSX software available from Apple, so you could try running that. You could try Versiontracker.com for mac software too, the files will always be compatible. You'll need Stuffit Expander or Unrar e.t.c to open .rar files though.

Well, it took me a while to find but I FINALLY found a compatible version of Photoshop for Mac OSX on Limewire. I also want to try to install Jasc Paint Shop Pro and Animation Shop, because I know how to use those programs better than Photoshop, and maybe Microsoft Gif Animator. I can only find those in .exe format on Limewire, Kazaa, and Poisoned though. (Basically all of the software I want to install is going to be done illegally. xDD) I just downloaded StuffIt Expander, just in case... I also took your advice and looked for software from VersionTracker.com and that really helped me a lot.

I also want to try to download the Sims 2 from Limewire, but only a .exe file is available, and also a program that compresses animated gif files, but I can't seem to find one compatible with my mac anywhere.

Thanks you for your help, Yukari! :huggle:
