Title: Love For The 8 And 16 Bit Ff
Description: all FFs before VII

Rinchan - January 3, 2007 01:45 AM (GMT)
Ok, I didn't see a club for this, and I hope I didn't miss it in the club list.

This is a club for anyone who has played a Final Fantasy that came before VII. You don't necessarily have to have liked any of them.

Have you every been on a message board and this question comes up.

"What's your favorite Final Fantasy?"

And it seems like every post has the response,

"Well, I've never played a Final Fantasy before VII, but my favorite is..."

And you can't help but feel "(Insert favorite classic FF) is a great game, you don't know what you're missing!"

Or you've tried to get someone to play an early FF and they respond with, "EW! The graphics!" (Although this is now becoming any game before X)

You know you've played an FF before VII when:

You remember the days when monks were bad ass and always hit twice

The boss battle music played during a battle with Behemoth, and he was freaking hard.

Leveling up was necessary.

You couldn't ever really tell what the character's clothes looked like and were disappointed because you wanted to go as one for Halloween or an anime con.

Bahamut was the god of summons and the most powerful.

Status aliments didn't go away after battle.

Excaliber was the best sword in the game

You remember when the spells could only have five letters to them, thus, we got the spell "meteo"

Red mages were awesome at the beginning of the game, but kinda sucked at the end.

You know what the crystals are and miss them in later games

You got all the references in IX or almost all the references.

On a message board, when asked "Who is your favorite FF hero/villian" You're the only one who responds with Cecil/Kefka. (Or anyother early hero/villian) and some one asks who they are.

You silently laugh at people who complain that a character has no personality when you know that the characters from I put all characters with no personality to shame.

You remember Megafire

There was actually a cure4

You've insulted someone by calling them a "spoony bard"

In my opinion, all the FFs are great. But there's always going to be a special place for the early and often ignored Final Fantasy games.

Hahaha, as soon as I saw this, I had to post. I love the older FFs, especially IV. That FF was the most interesting to me, especially when I kept on saying everyone dies and suddenly they came back near the end. VI was good too, especially with Kefka being the only villian to take over the world and the most challenging (well, not really. But that one Ghost Boss Battle in...that place was really hard!)

Welcome Paladin's Heart!

Anyone can add more to the "You know you've played a classic FF when..." list.

Paladin's Heart - January 3, 2007 02:41 AM (GMT)
OMG! The SPOONY BARD QUOTE!

Yeeeeeaaaaaaahhhh!!! I actually had that image on my signature for a while, and it was my usertitle for quite sometime. Here's some more to add from the list:

- You defeated the hardest of bosses without the option of using 'Limit Breaks.'
- You could hold a weapon in each hand.
- You could waste MP by healing your characters even when their HP is maxed.
- When there never was a main character.
- When you could have 4-5 people in your party. (Excuse FFXII, please.)
- You knew what an Esper was before FFXII.
- You remember there was no such thing as, "Materia, Junctions, Sphere Grids..."
- When your character would just wave their weapon in the air and hit the opponent without even touching it.

That's all I can think up for now :/ I might post more.

^_^ I own 1 and 2 and I love one!! (two sucked but for reasons like lame story and such) But add me up! I LOVE Final Fantasy!

Rinchan - January 3, 2007 04:12 AM (GMT)
Welcome NekoDono!

Alright, should I keep adding to the YKYPAGB7 list in the original post, or should we just have them added in the reply posts so the original post doesn't become ginormous? (is that even how you spell that?)

Kaldea - January 3, 2007 07:00 AM (GMT)
CG will join, yus. ^_^

*Tackles Boco and giggles until her head explodes*

Kuki Prower - January 3, 2007 10:54 AM (GMT)
I'll definately join! Not just for the earlier FFs, but also for those other old skool rpgs that were before the 32 bit era! Phantasy Star, Shining Force Pyschic World and others!

FFIV is probably my favourite, with II coming in second. I should also probably put some other things down.

- You know about the Job System
- When you needed aid from a beast, you would "Call" them
- If you went into an area when you weren't "supposed to be there", you knew you were dead meat
- Along with Bahamut, if you wanted Leviathan, you had to kick his ass

That's all I can think of right now ^_^

Angelalex242 - January 3, 2007 11:32 AM (GMT)
Let me add...

'The main character gets over his emo'
Your actions were valiant, true, and heroic
You had to get the ORB from the FIEND to enter the TEMPLE and get the ROD and the SLAB.
You sailed the Lete River with a turbo controller, set it to automatic button pressing, and left it on for a few days till you hit level 99.

Toxo - January 3, 2007 01:20 PM (GMT)
Can I join? I just loved FFI, II, IV and VI. ^_^

Rinchan - January 3, 2007 08:11 PM (GMT)
Welcome everyone!

Here's more

-The last guy was actually pretty damn hard
-Not only did you have to fight Bahamut and Leviathan to get them as summons, but sometimes you also had to fight Ifrit, Shiva, Ramuh, ect.
-The crystal music always brings a smile to your face
-There was no ultra hyper girl, or big breasted serious girl. (because you couldn't tell)
-The characters menu picture looked drastically different from from the character that you moved around the screen
-When talking about FF II or III you have to specify that you mean II and III and not IV and VI
-You've remember when there were no summons and the only classes you could be were warrior, black mage, white mage, monk, red mage, and theif. And later you classes would be upgraded.
-You've walked up to a dancing girl and she would throw her clothes of and dance for you.
-random battles could actually be pretty hard
-characters had cool hair colors like green, pink, or purple.

Andina - January 6, 2007 07:17 AM (GMT)
They do not make heroines like Terra anymore, although our brand new heroine from FF13 looks promising. To begin with she is actually wearing clothes and doesn't seem to have that damsel in distress syndrome most others appear to suffer from. Time will tell. :)

But there's nothing like reaching the Phantom Forest for the very first time and hear the masterpiece Nobuo composed for that area, just beautiful and oh so moody.

Oh wow another great club I missed, please sign me up Rinchan! I am a huge fan of the older Final Fantasy games. Rydia is one of my all time favorites and I love Locke and Celes from FFVI. I really loved always upgrading spells and weapons untl you finally got to the best sword and the best spell which seemed to be Ultima or Holy..I think, Meteo and Flare were also great.

I did love all the graphics for the summons and that they did have personalities. Bahamut was always the be all end all for summons. I do feel sad for thse who have never taken the time to play the older games, they really are fabulous.

Rinchan - January 29, 2007 06:45 PM (GMT)
Welcome Aerisbolt!

You haven't seen Rydia love until you've met my sister. She's had a long time obsession with that character and always moans about how they never sell Rydia, or IV in general, merchandise.

We recently played IV together. (The PS1 version can be put on 2 player). And she was literally sad when she left the party and was excited when she returned, even though she has played this game several times.

Speaking of Rydia, I always thought it was cute how Cecil kind of took care of her after the incident in Mist. It's fun to think of him walking along with a scared super powerful little girl following.

I've been trying to get one of my friends to play the early games specifically VI. But she is immediatley shuns them because of the graphics. I think that if I play the game with her she'll get used to the graphics and enjoy them.

Wonder if we can get any banners for this club?
