Title: Ripping Dvds
Description: No, I'm not a piracy dealer

Okay, here's the deal. I have my copy of the Advent Children DVD here in my hands - but how on earth do I rip the movie to my computer? I really want it on my hard disk so I don't have to pop in the (region incompatible!) DVD in my DVD drive everytime I want to watch it, or make AMVs.

Help?

I've been wondering about this too. Since I saw this thread I thought I'd actually do something about it :P

Try following these instructions: http://www.wikihow.com/Rip-DVDs

I've not tried it yet but it seems pretty easy to follow, and it was easy to find on Google which means a lot of people have done it. So I'm gonna try it in a minute.

The file you need to download is this: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/DVD_D...er/1011845169/1

I hope that helps.

EDIT: Had a quick go at trying to rip FF VII: AC and it was working fine, just very slowly. It uploads the whole disc, not just the movie (though I believe you can change that), so it could be about a 7/8 GB upload. And also, to play the files, I'm not sure what program it is. Windows Media Player would probably be able to play it but if not, search Google for the file type and it should give you a player. I hope this works for you.

EDIT 2: Ok, it's ripped to my computer but the files are .VOB files. Does anyone know what program you can use to view them? You can convert .VOB files to screen caps using DVD2AVI so if that's all your after, your sorted. Still looking for how to play them though, shall get back to you.

FINAL EDIT: And you can use this to play it Media Player Classic.

That was fun. I would've supplied links to the programs you need but the site was not cooperating. You can get them both from www.afterdawn.com

Oh, wow, THANK YOU SO MUCH SCOTT.

You're a life-saver!

I haven't downloaded the program yet, my internet is seriously playing up with me, but hopefully I'll try it soon. As for .VOB files... I don't know what they are, are they for use with VobSub or something like that? But if Media Player Classic can play them, it shouldn't be a worry. Or VLC player? Well, as long as it's a watchable movie that I can convert to .AVI or some other common format, it shouldn't be a problem. (I hope!)

I'll try it, but I'm not too sure about the .VOB part. Ah, technology jargon!

Thanks so much again, Scott! I'll let you know how it goes when I try it. :)

No problemo :)

The .VOB files were a bit confusing at first, but after playing about with the programs I mentioned, I'm sure you'll get it working with no problem. But if you have any problems, I'll be happy to help.

And that sucks about your internet being screwy, I hope you get it working better soon :)

If you just want to have it on your computer to watch you can try this...

http://trial.alcohol-soft.com/en/

Download Alcohol 120%... This is only a 30 day trial, but it doesn't limit what you can do, so you can just use it for copying AC then get rid of it.

When you open up the program there should be an option to make an image out of the file... Pick that and copy the DVD.

When you copy it should turn out to be a "bin and cue"(Or it might be an ISO) pair then you can play one of those using VLC with no problem. Bin/Cue(And ISO) also allows for you to open it up in Alcohol to burn the file onto a DVD.

Of course when a DVD is ripped that way it loses none of the quality meaning it's going to be a big file.

Sorry for being so vague... I don't have A120% on my laptop, so I can't doublecheck to see if what I think is right... is really right. >_>;;
