Title: Otp
Description: your one and only true pairing

Resha - December 10, 2006 10:54 AM (GMT)
Aside from Cloud and Aerith, what couple from other games/anime/mangas do you support with all your heart?

Fanon-Ishida Yamato and Tachikawa Mimi from Digimon 01-Since 1999 I kept supporting this pairing. No matter how much other fans would interpret about this pair, like they have no interaction and they actually didn't have any evidence, I stood up to fight for this couple. A lot of fans also bash this couple, for being such a nonsense. Well nonsense your ass 'cause it won't even change me a bit. I bet Yamato wanted to go to Mars so he could far away from Sora!!! It's maybe just I found it really weird, why do they look a lot like Cloud and Aerith?! :lmao: coincidence maybe?

mallorn - December 10, 2006 12:19 PM (GMT)
I've said this in the Favorite Couples thread, but my ultimate OTP has to be Kenshin and Tomoe from Rurouni Kenshin. I am a SUCKER for tragic love, and if this doesn't fit the bill I don't know what does. I also love how Tomoe wasn't the usual peppy genki anime heroine, but not painfully shy or naive, either. Her being able to change Kenshin from Battousai to what he was in the anime series/manga speaks a whole lot.

Sadhana - December 10, 2006 03:34 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I think this is pretty similar to the favorite couples thread, but mine would have to be Jim and Pam from The Office (shocker). I know they're not from a game/anime/manga, but I love them so much.

Schala - December 12, 2006 03:36 PM (GMT)
Finally I know what OTP is... My one true pairing changes all the time, but I think one that I prayed for (despite knowing that it would never happen) was Sieg Hart x Elie from Rave Master. It was probably because the first Rave Master episode I watched was the Out of Time part where Sieg was introduced. Sure, he was mean, but he became so much better after that.

I honestly loved that pairing, and I believe that under different circumstances it could have worked out. It broke my heart when I found out that Sieg really did love Elie. But she never found out.

It's annoying that Haru and Elie are really good for each other. And before Haru there was Sheba, so sadly... Sieg had no chance. Well, I'll always think that it makes a great AU situation.

Paladin's Heart - December 12, 2006 08:56 PM (GMT)
As well as everyone has stated it, yes this is similar to the Favourite Pairings thread, but it's also different from not stating many couples, but one pairing.

Besides Cleris (which is my OTP), do I only have to choose oneeeee?

It may not be very canon, with little hints here and there, but I really love Isaac and Mia (otherwise known as Mudshipping) from the Golden Sun series. Like the FFVII LTD, in Golden Sun theres a Love Pentagon. So a take on this may depend on your preferred pairing. But anyway, I really like how Isaac and Mia's similar personalities can compliment each other, and their actions towards each other in the games.

Whenever someone brings up the Madra scene in GS: TLA, I really think Isaac and Jenna fans are being as hypocritical as some Isaac and Mia fans. So then submerges into a whole LTD with flames and curse words arises, rather than discussing the whole point of the debate :P

...Just had to say, Isaac and Mia are just as tied with Kira and Lacus for my OTP :(

Kaldea - December 12, 2006 11:17 PM (GMT)
Mine would have to be either Link/Zelda or Vincent/Lucrecia.

Though I CAN be slightly open with the Link thing. But the only two other Link pairings I can accept are Link/Marin and Link/Midna. NO OTHERS. I am suddenly loving the Link/Midna idea though.

Anti-R - December 13, 2006 01:22 AM (GMT)
Hmmm. OTPs...

Kenshin x Tomoe in Rurouni Kenshin. Mallorn pretty much hit the head with this pairing. Without her to "tame" Kenshin, he wouldn't be the guy in the manga and the anime.

Sora x Kairi in Kingdom Hearts. Well I honestly think it's cute. Sora liked Kairi since forever, and has always been his guiding light in KH and CoM. Kairi takes the whole thing in stride, but you can tell she likes him as well.

Haseo x Shino in .hack//GU and .hack//Roots. Anti-social guy meets an enigmatic girl who makes him open up and became close friends. Girl gets "killed" in the game. Guy goes ballistic and angsty and hunts down player killers, gaining the title "The Terror of Death" to find the one who did it. Sounds familiar? 0.o;

Aragorn x Arwen from Lord of the Rings. I feel explaining this couple would take too long so I'll just tell to read the book in the appendix section or watch the movie (this version made me cringe though, but it's done with good intentions).

Ferid x Arshtat in Suikoden V. They are THE couple of Suikoden series for me. They fall in love at first sight, Ferid left his country and family behind for good and ran after her, and won her hand in a tournament. This is proof that cliches work. The scene where he suggests they could just simply take the family and run off was so cute. It broke my heart what happened to them later.

Rasler x Ashe. Enough said. I love the fact Ashe tries to grab ghost!Rasler's arm in the Raithwall's Tomb.

Harry Potter x Ginny Weasley. He came to her rescue wielding a sword in CoS, if that wasn't a giant hint, I don't know what is. And yes, I was shouting with joy when they became canon.

QFT. I absolutely love Kenshin x Tomoe and it remains one of my favorite pairings to this day. Tomoe also remains one of my most favorite female characters in anime/manga.

Some other zomgfavorites! of mine are Sasu x Naru (even my friend who is a boy cannot deny the "attraction" between them kuku) and Rasler x Ashe. At the moment, I'm all about the Final Fantasy XII pairings like Rasler x Ashe, Balthier x Fran, etc.

P.S. I loved that scene at Raithwall's Tomb as well. And that one scene where Ashe proves that she knew her man, even though they weren't together for too long.<3

Television

Spencer/Ashley: South of Nowhere My lesbian!OTP. How adorable could this couple get? They have great chemistry and it's so rare with any couple on TV to see the same kind of couple-ness they have. Even scenes where Ashley gets Spencer a bear because she had a bad day, or joking with Spence that even if rumors started about their relationship at least people would know she had "a totally hot girlfriend". They are just too adorable for words.

Ashley: I like you wearing my clothes. Maybe now you'll think about me all day.
Spencer: I do think about you! I failed my history test because you're all I ever think about.

:fangirl:

Peter/Claire: Heroes Before I get hopped on for CREEPY AGE DIFFERENCE, I shipped Buffy/Angel, which was a 200+ gap, so I am like bulletproof to those slings and arrows. Besides, Claire's almost 18! Anyway, I'm drawn to the idea of fate, and the whole way their relationship was set up (with Peter desperate to save the cheerleader) was interesting. I first really fangirled over them in "Homecoming", geez, they just sizzle on screen together. Milo and Hayden have instant chemistry onscreen which is fantastic. Not to mention those bedroom eyes she was throwing him in "Fallout". Yeah, Hayden, we all saw it.

Video Games

Link/Zelda: Legend of Zelda Epic love story of all time much? I just can't NOT ship them. Princess/Pauper always wins for me, and add in a pinch of fate with a dash of crossdressing? OTP, man.

Zelos/Sheena: Tales of Symphonia rotfl. It's like kindergarten love. She might as well push him into the mud screaming "DOODOO BRAINS" while he puts worms into her lunch. It's so obviously cute.

Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts

Vaan/Ashe (Some spoilers) God, he gets her to smile. TO SMILE. I melted. I like how they parallel their own situations. They both feel such anger, but can't really do anything about it. I loved when she turned to Rasler and he turned into Vaan - I really get Zack/Cloud/Aeris vibes from that whole scene. I could see Vaan really being what Ashe needs and their relationship being something powerful, even if it doesn't end all happy.

Penelo/Larsa That scene in the mines? ADORKABLE.

Fran/Balthier Because he knew she didn't like being tied up.

Roxas/Axel What? I can't help it! :D

Anime

Utena/Anthy: SKU The sheer screwed-upness of their relationship is oddly appealing to me. But I couldn't help falling for the fact that it was Utena's persistant love and friendship that got Anthy out of her coffin.

Tsukasa/Subaru: .hack//SIGN These two were the reason I watched this show. They both ran from reality, but got back to it together because they loved each other.

Resha - December 15, 2006 11:15 AM (GMT)
This is not really related to the topic, but anyway, I consider CxA canon because it simply shows it :P but anyway, does most of the couples you support are canon or fanon? am just curious. ^^

Schala - December 15, 2006 12:06 PM (GMT)
Fanon. :D It just isn't fun when the whole show is so obviously going to be about the two characters getting together and proclaiming their love. It's so... boring. So to me, it's much more enjoyable to find a more obsure pairing and find "proof" of it. If it actually comes true then that's a bonus, and it feels oh-so satisfying. Debating with fans of an alternate pairing is also a plus point. :P

Cleris is a separate case...

Agree 100%! I usually go for side pairings that aren't the canon ones (Go Yusuke x Botan and Irvine x Quistis! :P), or for the pairings that technically ARE canon but have 'ended', like my OTP, Kenshin and Tomoe.

Cleris IS one of the notable exceptions, as is Van and Hitomi and... er. I can't think of any other canon pairings that I really adore!

Hades' Daughter - December 15, 2006 02:53 PM (GMT)
I've always supported canon pairings and intended couples.

I can't, for the life of me, pair two people up when there's no basis for any sort of a relationship. I also dislike pairing characters together when it has already been clarified that things aren't going to work out between them. As well, I don't like pairing off characters who have no romantic interest in anyone and are so obviously single. Yus, I realize I'm strict on the rules with this kind of thing and that I have no sense of imagination whatsoever. :P

aerisbolt - December 15, 2006 03:31 PM (GMT)
I think I lean more with HD on this one. However I am not a "strict" as HD heehee.

I tend to go with the canon couples as well, someone mentioned Buffy earlier which brings me to my first example and as much as I like Spike I was always and still am a Buffy and Angel girl. Same with Gilmore Girls I love the little hints throughout the years that Luke and Lorelai should be togther and the idea of Chris and Lorelai makes me want to hurl, but I could go on a tangent about that show right now so I will stop there. However speaking of Gilmore Girls, I do not like Rory and Logan so I guess there are times I can stray from the norm

Sorry I know those are examples from television so let me answer about the games...
Huge Kid and Surge fan from Chrono Cross. Love Yuna and Tidus and well I don't know if Locke and Celes fall into fanon territory but I really like them as a couple too.

I do have at least one fanon couple I can share and that of course is ReTi. So I can completely understand why people like the fanon couples more in certain circumstances( that's more saying they never made Reno and Tifa official, not that I ever would think that Tifa was official with another character  ) But in any case I can understand wanting a different pair then seems deemed to be the it couple... Rinoa and Squall anyone? :puke:

I'd have to say my OTP is Cloud and Aerith. There are other pairings I love just about as much...but I spend my time more on this pairing than on any of the others. :cleris:

I refuse to pick any other pairing over them :P

I'm sorry HD, I think you misunderstood me, I do not like Rinoa and Squall...at all. I apologize for the confusion, that is great that you like them, but for me they are just one canon couple I cannot stand. But I am with you on Cloud and Aeris. They are definately the couple I spend the most time on as well. Probably with Luke and Lorelai right behind just because I am very attached to that couple....yeah I have no life :ermm:

Actually, I understood perfectly well that you don't like them. I was just saying that I happen to like them *along with* the rest of my other canon pairings.
Anyhow, it's okay, no need to apologize. There was no confusion.

Pyra Kurai Akaidra - December 15, 2006 08:55 PM (GMT)
The OTP I love above all else beside Cleris?

Takuya x me Kouji/Kouji x Takuya - Ah, many loves to these two. One might say they're best friends in the end or like brothers, BUT NOT MEH. I feel that Takuya helps lighten up Kouji and really cares about him, despite all their Tai/Matt-like fights.

Fou-lu x Mami - In Breath of Fire 4, we get to control Fou-lu at times and I truly believe Mami is the only human he ever cares about. What really nails it is when she risk her life so Fou-lu can escape and then...

SPOILERS
QUOTE
The Fou Empire use her as a sacrifice for their hex cannon in attempt to destroy Fou-lu before he regains his powers. They know using her is the best weapon, and when Fou-lu was hit, weaken...a bell fell from the sky, Mami's bell. Then, he truly goes beserk.

Anti-R - December 15, 2006 10:28 PM (GMT)
I like both canon and fanon (hey, suspension of disbelief is not bad).

Hm, the only canon couples I can never stand are Squall and Rinoa and Tamahome and Miaka. I have yet to encounter the others.

Zelda - December 16, 2006 12:51 AM (GMT)
Canon vs Fanon? I go with both. It depends. Sometimes I'll see wasted potential between two characters while the canon couple is dry and uninteresting. Other times they actually make the canon work in a way that's interesting. But I usually choose fanon over canon, by just a bit.

I like couples that are dating and boyfriend/girlfriend for a long time during the series and get engaged and get married and have a wedding and have a child and have lots of romantic kisses and a wonderful, destined, fantasy, magical romantic love story. So, Usagi and Mamoru.

I like Miaka and Tamahome a lot. They have a wonderful love story in the manga and they have two weddings and two sex scenes and two engagments and a child after they get married and they are so great together in the manga.

Julia and Griffin are a great couple.

Kelly and Dylan are a great couple.

Julia and Griffin are one of my favorite couples ever.

Julia and Griffin have so many great kissing and sex scenes and Julia and Griffin are one of my favorite couples ever.

Julia and Griffin are one of my favorite couples.

I like couples that are dating and in a relationship during the series.

I like real couples in a relationship that are boyfriend/girlfriend during the series.

I like a lot of couples on American television shows as well.

Schala - December 16, 2006 03:48 PM (GMT)
Sorry, Usagi, I don't like Miaka x Tamahome, but I agree with this:

I always thought that it'll be easier on myself if I could just go for a canon pairing, but alas, I don't feel the attraction. My overactive imagination drives me crazy with "what-if" scenarios whenever I see an eligible guy and girl.

A general question that has been bugging me: What is the definition of canon?

QUOTE (Schala @ Dec 16 2006, 11:48 PM)
A general question that has been bugging me: What is the definition of canon?

From aestheticism.com:

Canon- The author's version of character and events. The "official" version. What you actually see happening in the series and are told about the characters.

I'll try to look for a better definition, but that's basically it in a nutshell, IMO.

UsagiMamoru - December 16, 2006 11:16 PM (GMT)
I think canon would be like, a couple that is dating and in a relationship and boyfriend/girlfriend during the series. A couple that is dating in the series is canon, because the couple is boyfriend/girlfriend and dating and in a relationship during the series, they are the couple.

Anti-R - December 17, 2006 11:41 PM (GMT)
Late reply but the Fou-Lu and Mami arc is also sad. T.T

Canon is the "official" pairing of the two characters from the series. For example, Chandler and Monica from "Friends" are canon because they fell in love, became a couple and then married. Joey and Rachel did start a relationship as boyfriend girlfriend, but couldn't cross over and it dissolved, so they are no longer canon.

slowerthanaverage - December 18, 2006 01:41 AM (GMT)
I couldn't have put it better than the others who had posted before me:
Kenshin x Tomoe

Lutearina - December 19, 2006 07:51 AM (GMT)
Hmmm...

Here are my STEPS TO COUPLE LURVE IN A SERIES:

1) Luff ALL CANON COUPLES. <33 (For the most part, some exceptions)

2) Create fanon couples for the rest of them. >D

3) Sometimes, I support the same person with multiple people. xD

EXAMPLES:

Link x Zelda (CANON FO' SHO' D:), Kyo x Tohru (CANON), Yuki x Tohru (Canon in a different way; yet still canon), Zack x Tifa (O_o FANON)

See? I am completely random in my shippings.

NORMALLY, I'll go for canon first, then pair up the leftovers. ;D

And..I love Kenshin x Kaoru. Kenshin, current Kenshin, loves Kaoru. AND THEIR SON IS GOSH DARN ADORABLE. <33 Ahhhh so cuuute.

I suppose I live for one person and multiple pairings....And extreme canonity.

Of course, I also don't like any yaoi shippings...Het for me kthxbai. D:

Resha - December 19, 2006 11:31 AM (GMT)
Yuki and Tohru are canon? o_O; How exactly....
I thought fanon couples are more appealing to me than the canon, some characters just really click but they sadly don't end up together. But there are also canon couples I like that really gives definition, like Kyoru(Fruits Basket) and my favorite, CloudxAerith. As for Cloud and Aerith---I don't know. It's still unconfirmed who Cloud really loves to be open minded, but being a devoted CxA I of course root for canon. If you can classify Cloud Aerith, would it be canon or fanon?

True that neither pairing has been confirmed by SE...though many more signs and hints point to Cleris than Cloti, especially before all the pairing wars started. :P

I consider CloudXAerith canon because that's what I saw.

Yuki thinks of her as a mother, and states that she's extremely precious to him; he wants her to be happy most of all; etc. etc....xD

They're canon in a different way, but still in a relationship sense.

Well...Let me parallel the couples in Furuba with that of Full Moon -

Kyo x Tohru = Takuto x Mitsuki (PERSONALITIES/CANONITY IN THE END XD)

Yuki x Tohru = Izumi x Mitsuki (Yuki +Tohru = Mother, Izumi + Mitsuki = Mother (Or sister, more like...As Arina stated XP), Yuki saved by Tohruuuu, Izumi saved by Mitsukiiii....Well.....This won't make sense unless you've read both series. Oh well. )

So they're canon, but not as a DATING couple. As a family-istic? couple. xDD

UsagiMamoru - December 19, 2006 08:03 PM (GMT)
I like couples that are dating during the series and boyfriend and girlfriend and in a relationship during the middle or beginning. I like couples that first argue and fight and tease each other and then become boyfriend and girlfriend and date and are dating and in a serious relationship for a long time during the series, have lots of kissing scenes, have sex scenes, get engaged, get married, have a wedding, have a honeymoon, have a child, makeout in hotel rooms, everything. I like a couple that is shown as a couple and dating. I prefer happy middles to happy endings.

Er...f you put it that way, all characters share some kind of a relationship with other characters. Does that mean they're ALL canon? :P

I think we're just talking about romantic relationships here. In this case, YukiXTohru is actually a fanon pairing.

About the definition of canon, as long as there is a love being reciprocated between two people, it makes them canon. For example, in FFX, there's a love that was reciprocated between Yuna and Tidus. Even though they ended up separated in that game, never got married, and never had any children together, they're still a canon couple because they love each other. It's the same idea with Cleris.

Kusari Yarou - December 20, 2006 10:42 AM (GMT)
What HD says. :D Reciprocated love, basically, two people who are in love with each other. Even if they aren't dating, if they love each other, they're canon. Even if they're broken up, if they still love each other, they're still canon.
If one of them's dead but they loved each other in life, and even beyond it...well, of course as a Cleris, I consider that canon.

I ship both canon and fanon couples. I pair up fanon couples if I see potential chemistry. However, if I feel strongly about certain canon couples(Ron/Hermione, Harry/Ginny, Selphie/Irvine, Sousuke/Kaname for example) I refuse to see them paired up with others XD

Here are my OTP's:
CANON
Kenshin/Tomoe
A perfect tragic love story, and the fact that so many of you posted the same couple is proof of that! I’ve seen the OAV a billion times, and I still find it heartwrenchingly romantic every freakin time. :squee: Their story ran for only 4 episodes, but it touched me in a way that 75 episodes of Kenshin/Kaoru could never achieve.

Sousuke/Kaname from Full Metal Panic(novels and anime)
One of the rare high school couples (well, as normally high school as Sgt Sagara can get XD ) that has showed genuine love for each other beyond the hormones. And it’s my fave among them all! Okay, so they’re not making out every other minute(coughYuuWatasecouplescough), but the author knows how to handle their emotions and unresolved sexual tension: even when they’re in the same room together, not saying anything; even when one of them is simply musing on the other; even when Kaname gets exasperated over Sousuke, or he angsts about his place in her “normal” life…the love for each other is still there, and grows with every novel/anime series.
Like any fan, I’m impatient for the long-awaited kissing scene, and sigh everytime they try to communicate their feelings and fail…but ultimately, I am very glad the author doesn’t rush things too much.
I think the anime could do without the over-the-top Sousuke abuse though. Kaname doesn’t beat him up that much.

FANON
Jowy/Nanami from Suikoden 2
Other fans: But she only sees him as a brother!
Kusari Yarou: Did she say that?
Other fans: But he only sees her as a sister!
Kusari Yarou: Did he say that?
Other fans: But he got married!
Kusari Yarou: At the end of the game, who did he choose to stay with?

Okay, so there’s no canon evidence of romantic feelings, but I’ve shipped this since seeing their first interaction, the first time I played Suikoden 2 And there’s enough ambiguity so I can use my imagination! If you’re a girl and your brother’s best friend is rather good-looking, and your dearest male friend… Likewise if you’re a guy, and your best friend’s sister endeared herself to you through all those years you grew up together…there’s got to be something there!

Seifer/Quistis
The first popular fanon couple that I really got into. You know, scoured for fanart, squeed over fics... I just love the potential. I can imagine them both being snarky when they bicker, but also passionate when they....:mind in the gutter: XD C’mon, you gotta admit that they look gorgeous together… and more importantly, theyd have chemistry like no other!

I think I get it now. Come to think of it, Cleris vs Cloti and other shipping wars are about proving that the pairing supported is canon. The facts are there, but the dispute is over how to interpret it: canon or fanon. :D Ah, I see the light...

I've also come to the conclusion that my OTPs don't really depend on whether they're canon or fanon. I'm one of those people who simply likes to pair my favorite guy character with my favorite female character. And the hero usually isn't my favorite character, thus explaining the crackpairings. :ermm:

The only canon pairings I really like are Cleris and Kira x Alexiel (Angel Sanctuary). Other than that, zip.

UsagiMamoru - December 27, 2006 02:33 PM (GMT)
I think canon refers to a couple that is actually dating and in a relationship. In real life, it is only official when we are dating and in a relationship, so it should work the same in television and books.

Hades' Daughter - December 27, 2006 04:23 PM (GMT)
^ Just curious, but would you consider Tidus and Yuna the canon pairing of FFX then? They obviously can't get in a relationship or date because they end up getting separated.

YES! I love Utena & Anthy's relationship, it's like a tainted fairy tale.

Along with the Yuri-ness, Haruka & Michiru from Sailor Moon is definitely on my list, while I never liked the two separately, as a couple they were perfect.
