Awhile ago, my friend got Final Fantasy Chronicles for the PS1 which had FFV and VI. I remember trying to play V and didn't really like it. Maybe I was just too young and didn't really get it? I'm thinking about giving it another chance.
Does anyone here think it's worth it? What are your thoughts on this game?
I completed it earlier this year. I thought it was quite good - I liked the music (Clash on the Big Bridge is awesome!), Faris was cool, and I enjoyed the Job System. The only thing was, I didn't really connect with any of the characters the way I have done with the other FF games. Bartz could get annoying, I thought Krile was a bit of a Mary-Sue, and X-Death didn't have the presence or charisma of a villain like Kefka or Sephiroth.
It has its good points and bad points, but I did get satisfaction from the ending, so I'm glad I stuck with it.
FFV is a good overall game, I loved the Job System and Uematsu did a wonderful job on the soundtrack, as you mentioned Yukari, Clash on the Big Bridge is awesome! I like the bright colours and it has a hard challenge.
Though I felt the story was a bit weak, I found it largely predictable but it was a decent one overall. And I never felt close to Bartz, Krile and Galuf, they weren't developed much but Reina/Lenna and Faris were brilliant ^_^
Oh Yukari, which ending did you get? There are two endings that change depending on who lived in the final battle. The ending is pretty much the same, but you get different scenes if all four managed to survive.
FFV Advance was released in the US right? You get more jobs in that version and other things, we haven't got a release date yet :(
I think the responses already given pretty much sum the game up but as usual I will give my 2 cents about it.
I enjoyed FFV. It is a fun game and as mentioned by others a pretty uncomplex story. I did have fun with the job system and enjoyed Faris an awlful lot.
Where I find FFV lacking is in the replay value. I like replaying almost all of the Final Fantasy games but when I began to play this one again I lost interest pretty quickly. For me I didn't feel like going through the job system again, it felt tedious that time, and since the characters weren't as endearing to me I never got the urge to follow their story again. But that is just my take, if you end up loving the job system the replay value may be amazing, it just wasn't for me.
Final anaylsis: A fun game to play once, especially if you are a FF nut but definatley towards the bottom in the ranking of the FF games due to the lack of replay value and a just decent storyline and characters.
