Title: Health Issues
Description: Aurora needs teh advice...again!

Sorry if this topic doesn't belong here, I didn't know another place where it could go.

I've been having serious health issues lately. Ever since I've started college I've become an insomniac. Literally... I get maybe two to three hours of sleep every school night. Sometimes I go a whole night without sleeping at all. I don't know why, I just can't sleep. I don't know if it's stress related (there was the possiblility that my friend had cancer again, so I've been pretty stressed, but this problem has been occurring since school started)... I don't even make up for the lack of sleep on weekends.

I've also experienced a complete loss of appetite too. I'll be really hungry but when I have the meal in front of me I just can't eat. I can't look at it sometimes... I'll take a bite and get sick and feel completely turned off by food. I'm down to about one meal a day...sometimes not even a full meal. And it's not good and I know that.

So I'm pretty concerned, as I've been very fatigued. Being a performer I need lots of energy. By not sleeping and dieting weird it's really affecting my voice. Sometimes I get feverish too. Almost every week I get a fever. Two weeks ago I had a fever of 102 degrees... I don't know if the lack of sleep is from anxiety or stress, because ever since I've started school, I've felt LESS stressed. I love school and I'm happy. But these health problems aren't good!

I went to my doctor, and she checked my blood and everything and nothing seemed to be wrong. She told me it's a mental thing that's causing the lack of sleep and loss of appetite, and it's making me weak... Eventually I'm going to get a second opinion.

Does anyone know a good website I can read up on this topic? Or does anyone have any advice to share? I would really appreciate it!

You sound like me, when there's no food I get hungry, but when there's naught I don't want to eat. I always got sick by it, I've been sent 5 times this week, having headaches. I think what's causing this is whenever you get stressed, by school perhaps? :D

All I can give to you is eat a proper diet, exercise, sleep at least 10 hours and try not to get stressed. ^_^

Thank you for replying, Resha! :huggle:

The thing is, I'll try to get at least 8 hours of sleep, but I just can't sleep at all. I'm constantly tossing and turning and then eventually I want to get up and do things...like read a book or whatever, because I can't sleep. And the food thing, I'm pretty sure it's related to my lack of sleep also. But I really do try to eat as much healthy foods as possible because my energy has been so low.

Scary thing is though I've lost so much weight in such little time. When I noticed that I lost about ten pounds in two weeks I knew it wasn't good at all, and that's when the red flag went up and I forced myself to eat more.

I slept two hours last night.

Did you just start college?

If you did, it's normal. Happened to me and a couple of others when I first started my foundation year at Uni.

One guy even fainted during the orientation week, before we started our classes.

Don't worry, it will pass and it's also normal when assignments start piling up as you feel stressed from doing work and such. It comes and goes.

At most, if you can't sleep, try, or alternatively, maybe read a book or meditate. It should help, or have a warm drink before going to bed. Other than that, well... if you can't get much sleep at night, if you have some spare time during the day, maybe take a nap for about an hour.

having loss of appetitie or getting hugrier more than usual is due to the lack of sleep. It happens especially when under stress. Happens to me, too when I'm bound by assignments and Wushu training

You'll be alright :)
