If you could sum up your view of Cloud and Aeris's relationship in one piece of art with them, which one would it be? Can be fanart, official art, ect. If you still don't understand, in which artwork do you see your most accurate version of how Cloud and Aeris would be together? Oh, and explain why!

I would post one of my own cuz I drew it specifically to represent what Cleris means to me but...that would be a lil egotistical, neh? :lol:

The Garden of Everything, Cloud's sanctuary!
I guess it's sort of similar to Sefie's ^^

To me...their relationship is full of nurturing love and serenity...and they just naturally understand one another so well. He's her bodyguard, and in turn, she takes care of him emotionally. Aerith has both a gentle and a playful side to her and even when they first met, being with her, Cloud was able to smile and just be himself. For those few minutes that they were alone, it really looked to me like he was at peace and not struggling with his inner self. Aerith has that kind of healing/calming effect on Cloud and it's what I really love about their relationship.

Even though they're still connected through the distance because she continues to live on in him, I imagine the Promised Land (a garden full of flowers) to represent the place where their two souls can meet whenever Cloud needs to escape from his hectic, daily life.

I'm always in love with Seii's art albums, but it's times like these when I prostrate myself before them and kiss the internet upon which they exist. :lol:

The fluff, the everlasting love beyond death... Those are all great aspects of Cleris. But I think what really defined this couple for me was "loss."

I might never have taken notice of this couple if Aerith hadn't died, truthfully. Her death put that giant fullstop in any possibility of Cloud and Aerith continuing their relationship on a physical level--not just sex, but normal things like having a family together, or travelling together, or eating ice cream together. They can't do all those simple things anymore.

Yet even in loss, there is hope: the red ribbon. Aerith's ribbon has become one of my favourite parts of this couple--it completely screams of the origin of the "red ribbon ties two people fated together" belief. I love how the red ribbon was never cut, but unraveled from Aerith's hair even as she died in one long, whole piece. That speaks of Cloud and Aerith's unbreakable bond immensely.

The tragedy of Cleris was defined in that moment when she died, and Cloud held her as his feelings poured unabated from him. For me, this instance is what made me love them as a couple--their ultimate fate, with no second chances.

The hand reach. Whenever Cloud needs her, there's her hand, reaching out for him, and he's always reaching for her. It's the perfect symbol of their relationship.

This was actually REALLY hard for me to do. Can I please, please, PLEASE pick two? :sad:


A big thing that drew me to Clerith is the concept of fate (hence the quote in the sig yin made me). I'm hopelessly romantic, so I swooned for the fated relationship they shared. First, they meet by chance in the crowded streets of Midgar, and he buys a flower from her (at least that's what I always have him do XD). Later on, Cloud falls through a roof, and fate brings him back to that same girl. The fate of their mission brings these two soulmates together, and the tragedy of fate prys them apart.


This fanart is also an emblem of their relationship for me. So many of Cloud's actions and attitude towards Aerith's death just broke my fragile little heart. He wants so much to be with her just once more, and it gets to the point in AC where he doesn't want to go to the Forgotten City to save Denzel and Marlene because it's just so painful for him to remember the physical loss of her. And at the same time, we have a multifaceted character like Aerith. She's bubbly, independent, idealistic. But then there's the nurturing, loving side of her. And when she's with Cloud, that coddling part of her personality really shines through. Everytime she talks to him in AC, she's caring for him and nurturing his wounds. That tragic romantic chemistry they have was irresistable to me.

Cleris lurve

This picture just really sparked my cleris interest. Its a scene of pure sadness to Cloud, and the woman that made him happy in his life is gone. But, all the light in the picture reminds me of Holy. That, their is hope, and that in order to provide light for the way of mankind, sacrafices must be made.

I wouldn't call this my most favorite picture of Cloud and Aeris (don't get me wrong I like it a lot and the selection of quotes is great) but for me it shows best what I think of first when I think of them as a couple. That she is right there even though he may not see her. Even after AC showed that he can see her I think that it would still apply when times would be bad for him. Plus it is nice to think of someone embracing you when you feel you are all alone. It is just beautiful, heartbreaking, and extremely romantic to me thus one of the reasons I love this couple.

Lynn: What you said about them as a couple was beautiful. I wish I could say things so elequently.

Sadhana: I love that picture, it is definately one of my favorites. I just love how Cloud is embracing her, it's like you can feel his pain.

That's a signature from around here, I can't remember who made it however.
This is the picture that means everything because it tells everything that happened, their whole story... Cloud and Aeris growing to know and love each other, Aeris leaving and dying and finally returning to him. It holds all the love the sadness, loss and hope I see in this relationship.
And it's not fanart but consists of the original scenes, the way they happened.

I absolutely adore fanarts where Cloud and Aerith are looking very happy together. Especially for such an arkward character like Cloud, it's very refreshing to see fanarts where he actually looks like he couldn't be happier. Fanarts where he's looking arkward are cute, but I like to remember that Aerith was the one who made him laugh, made him open up and made him realize that he could be himself around her. I love seeing Cloud actually look comfortable around her.

One part of the game that intrigued me was Cloud/Zack dual personality and I've always been a firm believer that Aerith loved Cloud for Cloud, and not because of Zack. (hooray for proofz, MoTP!) This fanart portrays it really well - Aerith is sincerely happy to have Cloud as himself and isn't just looking for a clone of her first love. How upon first glance, Cloud seems to resemble Zack in so many ways, but upon closer inspection, she discovers he is her own person. "But...you're different. Things are different." Pretty self-explanatory.

Like Lynn said, the most poignant theme about Cloud and Aerith is loss. This is one of my favourite fanarts concerning their loss. When someone dies, they dissapear. There is no more proof of their existence besides their material belongings. No more laughter piercing the air, no more footsteps pound the earth. All that's left is a horrible emptiness, ringing through the silence. And that ribbon. That red (pink?) ribbon which binds two souls, as aforementioned by Lynn.
This image is just the most heart-wrenching to me, showing such a delicate Cloud having to deal with the emptiness that Aerith left behind, only to remember her by a ribbon.

I shalt point at my avatar. Which will serve as the piece of Cleris fanart, that this Clerith-son will be using as the base of his post.

As you can see the background is black, deeply black as the darkest of the nights. As a sad cold night. Resembling the depths our souls. The part in which our weaknesses reside. Despair, sadness and sorrow are portrayed on it.

Then we have those green beams of light. A fine addition as an element of brightness to the piece. Green, because if we look around us, around our environment, at nature, we'll be able to behold the green beauty that resembles life. Trees, prairies, etc... A warm day of summer, but with soft breezes as in spring, which tenderly caresses our faces. When we think of those particular forms on this world, we think of life. And its brightness is the opposite to the darkness. Hope, happiness and such are the elements embodied on those beams.

Now, we have Cloud & Aerith, which seem to be shinning. Showing that they have defeated death, and transcended to a higher level of existence. Actually the white thing around them is because I suck at PhotoShop. Cloud seems to be waking up from his slumber, and by his side his eternal lover and source of fire, is sitting and smiling at him. Full of happiness for the the gift that fate has placed before him, he caresses her face. They are finally reunited.

I like this because it just seems so pure and carefree - and Aerith is even happier because she's got Cloud to smile.

That's how I see it.

I love fanart like this...

when they embrace. They're usually simple and bittersweet, and portray Aeris as Cloud's pillar of strength, his comfort. When Cloud needs forgiveness, encouragement and strength Aeris is always there by his side to take care all of those things, and asks nothing in return only for him to be happy.

Unconditional love folks...beautiful. PLUS I love watercolors. :lol:

Like Kaldea, I like the simplicity in this picture. It exudes purity, serenity, and contentment. This is how I envision Cloud's promised land. It is just being with her, that simple..

I also like Marionette's choice..and Sadhana's very much. Like you girls, I see Aerith as a pillar of strength for Cloud.. his guiding light.

I believe Aerith's death had the biggest impact on Cloud, and proved that love can last after death. The way he looks at her while she's sinking down just gets to me in such an emotional way.

Just the complete happiness on both their faces, as they reunite. The 'I'll never let you go again' look on Cloud's face, his protective hand on her, and Aerith laughing like she knows they were together all along. Ahhhh... :cleris:

It just struck me in some way.... like their relationship, it's very bittersweet. The looks on their faces are peaceful and happy, but, like someone who commented on this picture said, it feels like Aeris is drifting away from Cloud- representing the fact that they can never be together again physically in this life. The red string of fate is also in the picture, showing that they're fated and meant to be, even though death separates them. And isn't Cloud's gesture sweet?

I think this is the one that more touched me than anything, especially the grayscale aspect of the picture. It really brought forth Cloud's feeling of despair, emotion, grief and guilt over the loss of Aerith and not being able to save her. I know it sounds corny but I always imagined Cloud disappearing into her church and letting his pain and his grief overtake him there. Somewhere that was very private and somewhere that he could atleast be feel somewhat at peace when he was there. Anyway, this is the drawing that did it for me.

I believe it effectively captures the sadness in Cloud's heart when he let Aerith's body sink into the lake, and yet her face looks peaceful, because she knows what steps she is going to take to protect him and the rest of their friends. It's bittersweet.

As a note, I love any and all cleris fanart by that artist, because they are all extremely beautiful and in-character. ^_^

It's an excellent display of their chemistry. They're just looking at each other, having a moment together.

It really helps show how their spiritual bond is. Their eyes are closed and they're lightly embracing, you can almost imagine them floating through the Lifestream.

Oh that first picture is just seriously heartbreaking. Cloud's face is so sad :(

Lay With Me. I chose this, because I actually got inspired by daydreamer198, when she posted "Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol" in the Lyrics and Poems section. The way I see it, Cloud can never and will never forget Aerith, and she will always be in his heart.
