Description: Aurora needs teh help again...

Anybody have a video iPod? I've been having problems with mine lately. It keeps freezing  Even when I reset it, it still freezes. In order to get it to work, I have to wait until the battery dies to recharge it. But then whenever I do that it hardly works anyway. <_< I mean, I don't think I should have any problems with it.... This began to occur about two months ago, and I just got it at the end of April. But now it has gotten progressively worse.

Has anyone else had a problem with theirs? If so, what did you do about it? Were you able to get it fixed or were you just screwed and had to buy a new one...?

Am I basically out of luck, then?

$300 for this piece of crap!!!!! *refrains self from throwing ipod out of window*

Amathala - October 24, 2006 09:35 PM (GMT)
Hmm...you might want to make sure you have the latest iPod software on your computer. If that still doesn't work, Google a quick-fix, and if that doesn't work, you'll probably have to get a hold of the company to see if they can fix it.

I dont have an iPod video though, this is only what I can suggest to you. I hope it works out!

MistaCloudStrife - October 24, 2006 09:50 PM (GMT)
Never had any problems with my ipod... But good thing about them is if somehting IS wrong with them you can usually just get a new one if you have the reciept. >=)

I spent 400$ on mine... So if something goes wrong I'm gonna be pissed... O.O

Also... what exactly freezes? The screen? The music? Can you hear the harddrive?

litoazncutie - October 24, 2006 10:41 PM (GMT)
Hey ummm there are a few ways to solve that problem...here it goes:

1. Theres a Menu and Center button trick- Press these two buttons together for a few seconds and your ipod will reboot itself and once you see the Apple logo pop onto the screen, it means that you have successfully rebooted your ipod and your ipod from that point should work normally. And about the songs or musicvids/movies you have on there, don't worry about it, they will still be there.

2. You can do a factory reset- This will set everything in the hard drive of your ipod to its original factory condition, meaning that everything will be DELETED. If your problem has anything to do with the firmware/hard drive, then this trick should fix it.

3. http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/reinit.php <-- this site has aprogram which will reformat your Windows-formatted ipod, basically resets everything so your ipod is compatible with your computer (that is if you're a Windows user).

4. And noooooo you're not out of luck. Your battery might be faulty if none of the above works. You don't have to pay another $300-$400 to buy a new one, you can buy a new battery. Usually, most ipods problems are related to the battery. The battery that Apple uses for its ipods stinks. I have a black vid one and the most amount of time I got out of it per charge ranges from 4-8 hours and on the package it says 15-20 hours (around there). So yeah... hmpf... right now I'm trying to figure out how to convert Advent Children (Dvd) into a movie file so I can put it in my ipod. All these softwares are just .....

Everything will be fine :)

The problem with trying to get a new battery is changing it. Yeah, there are places on the net you could go to find out who to open up your iPod and change out the crappy battery (I have nano, and the battery only lasts about 8 hours, supposed to be 16) but then if you ruin it, you have to get a whole new unit...

litoazncutie - October 24, 2006 11:19 PM (GMT)
well you can get the battery changed by an expert at the store... but I mean people can buy it online, personally I'd perfer bringing it to the store and letting them change it because the service is freeeeeeeeee.

dont you need to have some kind of proof that the iPod is yours? I mean, that you, or someone purchased it for you? My friend gave me this one, he found it on the side of the road @_@

HEYYYY that's not fair, I want to find an Ipod.. Anyways! You don't need proof of purchase. If they're going to reject you because you don't have any proof....they're losing an opportunity to make money.. the battery costs somewhere between $30-$50...sooo they'll be losing a chunk... Btw, vid Ipods are a ripe off, soooo a note to any future Ipod owners, go for the new nano ones, they're so sexy, or if you want something that has something with vids- go for iRiver or Samsung. The reason why I got a Vid was because I was just....weird... Now to think of it, I want a nano because I know how to hack into it and make it play videos... blahhh anywhoooo!

Wow, thanks for all the replies you guys! ^_^ Answers to all of your questions:

1. Don't have the receipt anymore so I'm outta luck right there...
2. Okies, I recently switched from a Windows to a Mac...could that be the problem?
3. When it freezes, the screen doesn't change and the blacklight stays on. I can't turn the volume up or down, I can't turn it off, and I don't hear anything coming out of it except a low humming noise from the iPod itself.
4. Even when I reset it by holding down Menu and the center button, it still freezes
5. I update the latest version of iTunes all the time
6. How do I format my iPod for Macintosh?

You should be able to go on the Apple website to find a fix for that. You'll probably have to do a factory reset though, which means you'll just have to put all your songs back into your iPod. Currently, I think your iPod is configured for Windows, you'll have to go to the Apple site to get updates, drivers, and your software to switch it over.

Okies, so I've restored my iPod so that it's in Mac format now. So far I'm not seeing any problems, so I'll see how things go from here.

Thank you all so much for your help! :huggle:

I found a nano on the ground outside of Times Square last year but it was kind of broken... And my brother found an iPod shuffle at the beach a couple of weeks ago. ^^" It was during a huge festival, so...maybe you can find one if you look in a crowded place?

I found a really good software for video conversions made just for the ipod... If I find my CD with it in there I'll post it up again...

And I just found a new ipod shuffle 512(New as in not used, not the cubey ones). I checked to see if there were songs in it but theres nothing at all. I dont even use it since I have a blk 60gig video. Its like... useless to me. I'll probably give it to my mom even though she probably wont know how to even work it... hah.

Aurora - October 25, 2006 05:13 PM (GMT)
My iPod still freezes. I'm going to try to restore it to its facory settings and see how it goes from there. I'll try continuing looking up ways to fix it also.

I was talking to my friends who all have video iPods, and not one has this problem!! X_X

Tacofoolio - October 25, 2006 09:02 PM (GMT)
I'm sorry that you're having problems! :huggle: I know nest to nothing about iPods except that I got one for my dad that my brother constantly steals from him I hear. *was teh good daughter* I've actually been considering getting myself one now, but I have no idea which would be good for me! I doubt I'd get myself a video one though, I can't see myself needing that. *has turned into MP3 whore and would like to be able to hear her songs when not at computer* I'm curious, can you put songs from your iPod onto the computer, or can you only put them on your iPod? *is afraid someone might laugh at her* I am sooooo bad with all these things.

Whichever ipod fits you best depends on what you're planning on putting in it.

How much space would all of your MP3's take up? Do you want video?

As for me... I have over 30gigs worth of MP3s and I wanted videos... So I got a 60gig Video.

If you plan on only using about a CD or two's worth of music, you can settle with a Shuffle.... If you want about... a CD or DVD full of MP3s you can get a Nano or Mini...

And if you want to stash more than 4 gigs worth of MP3s, the video is probably for you....

And about putting songs from the ipod to the PC... I don't think you can do it with itunes. I believe when you transfer an MP3 to the ipod it completely changes the file to something else... So it's not that you can't get the songs out of the ipod to the PC, it's converting it back to a useable format.

Or something... >_>

Oh, and I always thought you were a guy. o.O;

Tacofoolio - October 25, 2006 10:52 PM (GMT)
:lmao:!!! Nope, I'm a girl! *wonders if it was the SN or she just acts like a guy*

I have a lot of music already, and tons more I'd want to put, so I have a feeling I could end up with 4gigs pretty easily. I'm too concerned with videos, but if it'd be worth it with the amount of MP3s I have, I might have fun with videos too.

I understand what you're saying about converting the music back, it's just a shame because I'd love to steal music from other iPods to have a nice way to get my music back on the computer if it got erased! :P I'll keep looking at them on my own too, I'm not so sure I want to blow so much money right now. Well actually I want to, I just don't think it's the best thing to do!

Aurora - October 25, 2006 11:32 PM (GMT)
I can't believe I got a 30 gig video iPod when they came out with 60 gig just a month later. *wants to shoot meself*

Unless you enable disk use for your iPod, then you can download songs (and other files) to store on your iPod so you can transfer the files to different computers.

:lmao: I thought you were a guy too!!

I think it was just the name though...

AUGH my iPod froze AGAIN today!!! And now I have to wait until the battery's dead to recharge it and use it because it won't unfreeze. I'm going out of my mind. Dumbest investment I made in my life. I'm still looking for ways to fix it.

Sounds good, even if I'm so terrible with that kind of thing I wouldn't be sure how to do it! Bad Taco, now I really want to buy one as I think about it more! But I'm supposed to save for Christmas and plane tickets. Hmm, maybe my dad will return the favor... :P

Aurora - October 26, 2006 12:26 AM (GMT)
^_^ That's ok, I'm technologically st00pid so it took me a while to learn how to use iPod and iTunes.

It's easy, all you have to do it plug your iPod in, open up iTunes, and check the "enable disk use" box under the settings.

You know you can have iTunes even if you don't have an iPod (in case you don't have iTunes already)... That way it would just be easier to transfer all your songs onto your iPod, if you get one.

If you're considering getting an iPod, maybe you can get the shuffle? It's pretty cheap now, I think it's down to less than $70... If you go to Best Buy usually they have pretty good deals. When I bought my iPod there they gave me a lot of free stuff to go with it - extra earphones, an iTunes gift certificate card and a cool cover for it.

Kuki Prower - October 26, 2006 07:14 PM (GMT)
I'm soooooo out of technology, no Ipod or MP3 Player for Sonikku *still has his portable CD player*

Ipods are pretty dear over here in Scotland, the basic one usually costing about £100. I'm not great with technology so I probably would never be able to work it out.

litoazncutie - October 26, 2006 07:41 PM (GMT)
:) I prefer you (Missy Tacofoolio :P ) to get the 6 gig iRiver. Ooooo and as for the ipods song tranferring thingy, well technically you can't stick different ipods into different computers cuz then all the stuff you have on that ipod will be deleted (cuz of stupid itunes that is programmed to only DETECT that certain ipod serial number thing, blah). But if you want to really get an ipod, then I can prolly hook you up with this program that will prevent anything from the ipod from getting deleted (I'll have to find it, it's here somewhere.. yeah I thought I know it will eventually come in handy when I get a laptop for college and get everything transferred over  ). So yeah, hmpf. I have the 30 gig black Ipod vid, I thought I'd fill up the whole thing with music, movies, and pictures... but it turned out that the battery sucked and can't play any movies entirely, and I only used like 2 gig... Sooooo, if you to get an Ipod, get the new nanos, they're so hottt, but other than that, I don't recommend it. :gift:

Oh and Aurora! You should probably bring it to the store and have them figure out what the problem is and decide where to go from there. :)

Aurora - October 27, 2006 05:55 PM (GMT)
Yeah, that's probably a good idea... When I get a chance, I think I'll actually go down to Radio Shack to see what's up with this stupid thing. It's so frustrating... You spend so much money on something, and you expect it to work and last a long time!

Amathala - October 28, 2006 12:19 PM (GMT)
Taco: A 4gig iPod usually only holds about 1000 songs, that's IF you dont put pictures in there or album artwork. I've got a 1gig nano and it holds less than 200 songs u.u;;

Anyway, whatever's right for you. You could go bigger with another brand though, and it might cost you less depending on what brand you want. I guess what it all comes down to is how much you're willing to spend. I hope you find what you want!

I do believe though, that you CAN take songs from the iPod and put them on another computer as long as you have iTunes on that computer. There's something about it in the manual (I think.....)
