First, let Freya tell you somethings. ^_^

-----------------------------------------------------

Appearance: The Layout
When you start your board, be sure to create only a few forums and categories. A good way to start would be to have two to three forums in two to three categories. Important forums you should consider including are: an introduction forum, an announcements forum, a feedback forum, and at least two forums regarding your board’s main topic. If you have some forums you feel are important to add right away, but adding them would cause the board to look empty, make some of the forums sub-forums of each other. Empty forums cause a board to look inactive and boring, so be sure to start a few topics in each forum to get conversations going. As your board grows, you can expand the number of forums when necessary.

The Skin and Graphics
The skin and graphics are probably two of the most important things on your board. If you’re board looks ugly or busy, no one is going to even look at your board. Find a skin that goes with your board’s topic, and make sure that you can find matching pips, forum markers, team icons, buttons, etc. Request a banner that will fit the space provided in the skin you’ve chosen, but if there is extra space, at least center it.The best place to find skins and graphics would be:

IF Skin Zone
Zeta Evolution

Promotion: Search Engines
Right now, Google is the number one search engine, and it’s important to get your board involved. Click here to submit your board to google. Even though Google is the largest, people do use other search engines to attempt gaining more traffic to their boards. Some services that submit your board to many search engines at once include:

Add Me
Exact Seek
Forum Search
Free Submissions
Metanet Promotions
Search It
whatUseek

Affiliation
Affiliating means your board links to another person’s board, and their board or website links to your board. Look for other websites or boards that have the same main topic as your board, and ask to affiliate with them. This is a great way to get traffic.

Signatures
If you frequently visit another board (such as Squinoa, which is my forum), you should consider putting an image in your signature that links to your board. Make sure the image is attractive, and double check to make sure that you’ve linked your board correctly.

General: Content and Services
People will join and post on a board that supplies what expect, want, and don’t already have. Basically, if your board is a complete copy of another board, no one is going to join it, because they’re most likely already satisfied with what the original board provides. You need to have something unique on your board to make people interested enough to register, so be creative! People expect that at a board they will be treated respectfully, and that the staff will be professional. Therefore, it’s important to try to be grammatically correct, and it’s important to avoid spelling errors. A good way to avoid spelling mistakes in important announcements or topics is to quickly paste your post into a word processor to double check your work.

Moderation
Try not to look to strict when you start out; you may even try to encourage spam to get your board respectable stats. When you have active members you can start tightening down on rules and focus more on the board subject. People don't like a strict forum especially if the board isn't evolved enough to have strict rules.

Your Members
Hold competitions, community events, and keep your members happy! This is the most important thing to remember with your board. Make them feel welcome, and thank them if they do something good for your site. If a member proves to be helpful and active make them a moderator giving them a feeling of obligation to your forum. Remember, your members are everything.

Good luck with your board! :huggle:
