This is something I never really got in FFVII - after the night after Cloud's first reactor blow-up with AVALANCHE near the start, outside you could talk to one of the slum girls and she would say something like; " We all peeked in and saw you and Tifa last night. How could you " or whatever.

And Tifa asked Cloud " how did you sleep " which I always saw as a coy question, where you could respond as either " Barret's snoring kept me awake " or " next to you, who wouldn't? " The second would make Tifa respond with something like " Oh, Cloud... " or something.

To me this sounded seriously strange. Could... could someone /please/ clear this up? xD;

This was after the scene where Tifa asked Cloud to help Avalanche and where he almost refused, right? I can't remember if the girl said anything else, but I assume she was referring to that bit...?

I highly doubt Cloud actually did anything with Tifa (except maybe in TSQoH's fan fic) while everyone else was sleeping. I mean, the guy was practically brushing her and her 'promise' off right before going to bed.

...and I wouldn't exactly consider this all that important. Afterall, it's just part of the dating mech. If you reply in favor of her, you'll earn points towards her and this ultimately determines who you date at the Gold Saucer, that's all. However, since Aerith's date is pretty much the default date, I wouldn't worry too much about this.

Well, the question-and-answer is just one of many silly choices you make in the game. I can't remember if choosing the non-Barret option will let you increase Tifa's affection for Cloud (leading into the Date scene). But here's just one of several chances to choose the type of personality your Cloud would have-- a playa' with his second option, or Mr. Grumpy McGrump with his first?

(In my first playthrough, I actually chose the Tifa option... Still ended up with Aerith as my date, though. :lol: )

As for the NPC girl, I'm guessing she's talking about whenever Tifa and Cloud were alone. Maybe she's referring to when Cloud ordered a drink from her? Or you can let your Cloti mind run wild with when "last night" actually was. :lol:

I can remember one of the slum people teasing Cloud about being her 'childhood friend', but nothing about 'peeking in'. But it's been ages since I played that bit. I remember Tifa's response if you say 'next to you, who wouldn't?' She says 'I don't know what you mean'. :lol:

But that response never made sense to me. Wouldn't he have trouble sleeping if he was next to someone who was making him all flustered? Oh, FFVII and your bad translations.

Or! This could be one of those many times Tifa "made her feelings clear" yet Cloud still didn't get it/forgot it/ignored it. Because, I mean, Tifa = hawt secks because of her appearance regardless of her shy nature.

Well, I think most people would choose the Tifa option. There's not really much reason for Cloud to be particularly unkind to Tifa...though I think most people give the flower to Marlene because it just makes more sense to give a flower to a little girl then to a grown woman.

In fact...I think the most 'natural' way to play, assuming Cloud is a reasonably nice guy while partialy tainted with Zackness looks something like this.

I just said there wasn't much reason for him to be mean to her while he was tainted with Zackness. Zack on his own was a pretty outgoing, friendly guy. If Cloud is copying Zack as best he can during Disc 1 (and part of Disc 2) it can be reasonably assumed he's at least trying to fake doing what Zack would do, however subconscious it is.

Meh, I don't put much weight into the scenes where you're given the dating mech options anyway. I normally try to be nice to everyone...and still end up with the Aerith date of course :cloud:

I've seen the Tifa date, but I've never gotten it myself.

I find the "Barret's snoring" option to be more realistic for Cloud, though, because he was never really suave even with the Zackness about him.

The answer "Beside you, who wouldn't?" strikes me as EXACTLY the kind of thing Zack could spout off comfortably, but not Cloud. I just chose it because I reeeeally wanted to see Tifa's reaction to a statement like that. XD

Well, that's why that option is there, I think.

By choosing options like that, Cloud looks like he's taken on even more of Zack's personality. The more options like that he makes, the more Zacklike he is.

And yet, in Maiden, it's Cloud's awkwardness that convinces Aerith to entrust him with her heart, so it should be reasonably assumed he's at least somewhat awkward with his Aerith responses.

I don't think SE was aiming for anything serious with the types of options players could pick for Cloud. I doubt SE was giving players the choice to make their Cloud "take on more of Zack's personality". That sounds way too serious for something like the dating mech. Like Lynn said, you can either have Cloud or man-whore Angelalex Cloud. It's really just for amusement/fun, IMO.

Sometimes Cloud is just goofy. He tries to act cool, but even his flirting come across as corny. I just think that's part of the charm.

Choose the "next to you" for your goofy Cloud or the "barret's snorring" for your more cynical Cloud.

I could see it going either way.

The Yuffie one has always been my favorite date. Dated her in every gameplay. So yes, I have a pinch of clouffie in me because of that...

Someone uploaded all four of the dates, and wrote that the Tifa date was probably better than the date with "the plot device." I guess some people can't get over the idea of there being a default date. :giggle:

Anyway... I don't remember that particular line that you mentioned. Maybe I just never talked to that random character. However, from what the actual line is, I don't see how this person would be asking, "How could you have had sex with Tifa?" Wouldn't they be angry at Cloud for doing something wrong, as in him not being too keen in helping out his childhood friend? Just doesn't seem like something a person would say in reference to sex (unless he was cheating on someone, but Cloud was single).

How could you?" which they were concerned about because it could imply that Cloud and Tifa had sex (at least that's what I though the topic starter was asking about). I was just explaining why this line, solely in regards to context, wouldn't be referring to sex.
