Title: Employed!
Description: This thread is for people who got hired.
Angelalex242 - October 6, 2006 11:49 PM (GMT)
I am starting this thread, for I have gotten hired.
Now, mind, I have a college degree as a web developer.
I got hired as security.
...That's not quite what I wanted, of course, but at least it's a paycheck!
yin-chan - October 7, 2006 12:06 AM (GMT)
Yay!! Congrats, Alex! *imagines you running around a carpark in blue uniform and a baton* :giggle: At least you get to stay active on the job! Have you looked for web development work, though?
I work two jobs at the moment while studying in Uni. I work at Coffee Bean, making and serving endless coffee all day long, and I also work at my riding school as a stable manager, which is...a lot more enjoyable than staring coffee in the eye, especially as I don't even drink the thing. :giggle:
MistaCloudStrife - October 7, 2006 08:03 AM (GMT)
I haven't had Coffee Bean in a while... Went there alot when I was in Cali. Miss the Blueberry Pomegranate Tea. =P I'm die-hard Starbucks now.(Lives in Washington)
Anyway,,, I recently quit my job as a Ramp Agent at the Airport.(Handles Bags and Cargo from the Aircrafts) It was a fun job/workout but it was too far to travel... Working four 10's(Four ten-hour shifts a week) graveyard was nice though. Of course 40minute drives going back home at 6am after working ten straight hours isn't very safe.
Soooooo... I'm now helping my sister start up a business. BUBBLE TEA! Yeah, we're starting up a fresh business selling Bubble Tea, Cakes, and light appetizers(Fries, nachos, hotdogs etc)
We're going to open up before the end of this month... It's going to be fun.(Probably not, but finally making some more money is going to be good)
"R Lounge" is what we're going to be called. Remember that name when/if we get franchised. =)

Since I got kicked out of school over cancer. <_< but, I'm also trying to get a job as a waitrisse somewhere.
Trisse - October 9, 2006 09:30 AM (GMT)

I don't do ballroom Hiphop and all that stuff, I'm not sure if you have heard of Clogging, but it's between Irish Stepdancing and River Dancing. ^_^
Today, I'm suppost to be going to get another job on the side. <_<
Angelalex242 - November 5, 2006 01:47 AM (GMT)
...I just got certified in using handcuffs.
Police style, of course...but I'm sure I can use what I've learned in other situations. No learning is ever wasted...

:lmao: @ Angelalex
I'm getting re-hired at my old job for the holidays. It's gonna be hell, since I'm tired anough as it is, but so worth the money.
Kaldea - November 5, 2006 03:20 AM (GMT)
Wow, you guys sound so professional! And yin-chan, I have NO IDEA how you do it!
I can't work while I'm here in the States since I'm only here on a student visa. I can get a job for credit in a few semesters though, as long as it's related to my major.
Other than that, my last job was being a Provincial Park Attendant. I got to walk around all day outside in a police-ish uniform glowering at ebil city people while giggling at ducks and other wildlife. ^_^

:plot: You had me at "I have a degree"
Anyways! I'm a cashier at Target :P However, I also do Guest Service, zone the dollar spot and just do pretty much whatever needs done up in the front of the store(I also enjoy working the Electronics counter cuz I can look at all the purdy video games!)

Fwee! That sounds fun!
Lynn - November 9, 2006 03:02 AM (GMT)
Since my contract ends in December, I better get a post in here while I can. :P
Anyway, I've been writing bi-weekly blog entries for an education website since July. Does this even constitute as a job? I'm basically paid to BLOG. My job is to write about my experiences as a university student--it can be pretty much about anything. I've written about orientations, exam stress, and even random posters I see in Singapore that I don't see in Malaysia.
It's RM50 per entry, and they intelligently limit me to two entries a month to avoid paying me more. It was pretty cool to get that first cheque in the mail, as I've never even waited table before. Yes, Lynn is a sheltered little child and has never once worked in her life. :hide:
The contract ends in December. Who knows if they'll have another one next year, and more importantly, who knows if they're willing to take me on another year if there is one. xD;;
I'm hoping to find a part-time job around campus next year to earn some pocket money. I don't particularly like the idea of working in clothes shops, because every one I've seen in Malaysia was always so empty and boring. I'd rather work in a food shop where you're actually BUSY (time really passes slower when you're just standing there >_<). I hope there's something opening in the library: it's air-conditioned. xD
Amathala - November 9, 2006 08:08 AM (GMT)

Yukari - November 17, 2006 01:20 AM (GMT)
I answer phones for o2 (It's a mobile phone network in the UK, dunno if it's global), dealing with customer complaints and questions, but I'm almost finished training for the business department. It's gonna be much better, since in the normal customer service department there's usually over 100 calls queuing, so no break between calls, but in the business department there's usually about five or ten minutes between each call. Means I can giggle with my friends and try and get some of my assigned reading for uni done.
Before I got the job with o2, I worked Christmas temp at WH Smith, which sells magazines, CDs, books, stationary, e.t.c. It was a nightmare! Huge queues of bad tempered customers, crazy people ducking under the shutters before we'd even opened, and I worked seven hours and got twenty minutes break that I had to put together to have enough time to get lunch.
And before that I worked in a cafe in a department store. I had to serve coffee, serve food, clear tables and push the ridiculously heavy plate trolley into the kitchens while small children zipped about everywhere trying to get run over, and wash dishes. I noticed there that customers do some really thoughtless things. Like putting paper napkins in half full cups of cold coffee so the poor waitress has to scoop them out, or mixing all their leftover food together into a heap of mush, or squashing all their leftover lasagne flat onto the plate and then putting other plates on top. And we didn't get rubber gloves or anything, we just had to scrape the food off the plates with our hands. Ew.

I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN. :o
Oh MB, I totally can relate! The customers at the cafe I work are just as bad, though yours sounds really dreadful! At least we get rubber gloves. :( There's this one lady that's especially annoying, she comes every single day and doesn't buy a thing, instead she pulls all the tissues out of the dispenser, blows her nose on every single one of them, and then just leaves all her snotty tissues all over the place, especially on the condiment stand (it's the condiment stand!! There's...there's....food goes there! Cutlery goes there! It's supposed to be hygienic, not to serve as your dustbin!!) for us to clear up. It's horrific. I'm beginning to wonder if she stores all her snot up her nostril just to unleash them all on us when she comes.
Sefie - November 17, 2006 06:56 AM (GMT)
:o At Yin's story...that's just....that's just WRONG. You guys should ask her to stop!
Kuki Prower - November 17, 2006 12:06 PM (GMT)
I'm not employed...yet! I've got an interview for a Clerical Officer in the Accident and Emergency department in Victoria hospital. I think its about 20 hours a week I will be working, but it can lead to more. I've worked as a Clerical Officer before so I know what will be expected of me and what systems I have to use and so forth.
I've got my interview on 22 November so wish me luck ^_^
