Title: Top 5 Emotional Moments
Description: Real tear jerkers *POSSIBLE SPOILERS*

Kuki Prower - October 2, 2006 02:23 PM (GMT)
I'd thought I would post this topic, its where you post your top 5 moments in games, any kind of games that had you in tears. I can safely say that mine are all probably character deaths  Note, there are spoilers for the games that I mention.

5) Death of Alys Brangwin (Phantasy Star IV) - For me, this is just scrapped in, when I first played PSIV, Alys was a cool character because she was a very powerful leader and figure. When the Black Energy Wave killed her, it was what she said to Chaz after her slow death that really moved me.

4) Lyon's confession of her past in Nether Gate (Suikoden V) - Lyon so far is definately my favourite character in this game. When this moment came, her past was so tragic that you could feel her sadness, but her voice actress pulled off this scene perfectly.

3) Ending of Final Fantasy X - Didn't put the game title cause the moment says it xD Yeah but the ending of X is bittersweet at best, it wasn't rather the music of the acting that done it for me. It was when Yuna ran to Tidus and just passed right through him.

2) Death of Aerith Gainsborough (Final Fantasy VII) - I think concerning this forum, this will either be at the top of everyone's list, or it will be in it :P But yeah, this is the most famous video game moment in history. For most of us, it was the death of Aerith herself, but if that didn't effect you, it was the music. I already posted my long response about the death in the topic about it so I won't bother posting it all her.

1) "Death" of Nanami (Suikoden II) Nanami is my utter most favourite RPG character, and she comes from an RPG that is one of my favourite games of all time so this maybe a little biased but who cares? But this moment is so sad, its because of how Nanami felt about her brother and herself fighting their childhood friend. When it came to this moment after all she went through, she fought to protect them both even from what had happened all through the game. I think its also what she says before her death that breaks me up, the orchestra remix of the Theme of Sadness from the first Suiko helps this to.

Here is the scene if you want to watch it.

Though, I was glad to find out that if you got all 108 Stars of Destiny that she survived and went with Riou and Jowy to travel the world, made me felt a lot better :)

So what about you guys?

Just letting you know, I've edited the topic description to warn for spoilers, Sonikku. ~ Madame

Tacofoolio - October 3, 2006 06:34 PM (GMT)
Hmm, I'll see if I can make a top five, but not necessarily in any order.

*Death of Aerith*
Of course this was one I would put, it was simply heart breaking for me, I was in love with her character from the start, so it made a huge impact on me of course.

*Nanaki Learns The Truth About His father*
This one might surprise you, but when he discovered his father was a hero and not the coward he had invisioned so long, I was so happy for him, but so sad about how Seto had died. Then the tears and the howling... Made me all emotional, lol. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KicenE_JMlY Watch it and tell me you aren't sad!

*Metal Gear Solid 3: Death of The Boss*
If you've played this, then you'll know what I mean. The white flowers everywhere, then after the one shot they all turn red. Then after you learn even more about her in the very end, it's so sad. She's another of my favorite characters, and I definately recommend this game.

*Zelda: Ocarina of Time's ending*
When Zelda had to send Link back to the past, it was very emotional for me because I feel they have such a strong connection, and after working so hard to save everyone they had to part, it was so sad. But seeing them reunite in the very end made it give me hope too.

*Ending of Final Fantasy VII*
The suspense, the hand reach, seeing Aerith's face in the lifestream as the Planet was saved, it really was something to me when I saw it, and even when I watch it now, it's emotional, and I really feel the Cleris/Aerith vibe. Plus all the characters looked so pretty! *drools over Cloud emotionally*

There's more moments that touched me of course, but I thought of these first! :P

Kaldea - October 3, 2006 06:35 PM (GMT)
I could be forgetting some that were even better, but these are the ones I can remember right now.

5) The "parting" of Kaldea and Sion near the end of The Bouncer - The events surrounding that whole scene just made it so sad. And the words she said to that undeserving bastard were so beautiful. I HATE him. For a game that seemed so rushed, it had a story with some great potential.

4) The moment you finish off Virgil at the end of Devil May Cry 3 - Virgil says Dante's name just as you beat him and it echos so beautifully. I dunno, I just found that really emotional. His own brother beating him finally.

3) Rinoa finding Squall in the ending FMV of FFVIII - That scene just really appealed to me. Very pretty and full of meaning.

2) The ending of Ocarina of Time - The part where Link and Zelda (both adults) say their goodbyes made me practically scream, "KISS DAMMIT! ARGH! *Weep!*"

1) The ending of FFVII - Pretty self-explanitory. The music along with the events and the feeling as if you finished a story that you wish would go on forever combined is pretty powerful. That and the "500 years later..." scene which was also very beautiful.

Paladin's Heart - October 3, 2006 08:00 PM (GMT)
Uhh...never mind my first post. I deleted it.

5) The Ending of Kingdom Hearts - It was kind of stupid because Sora or Kairi could've just did a little hop to be with each other, thus never creating that "wonder of a game" called Kingdom Hearts II. But anyway, It was sad because of the whole "I'll come back to you, I promise!" , "I know you will!" Sora/Kairi thing.

4) The Ending of Kingdom Hearts: COM - I like Namine alot, and I am a very avid Sora/Namine shipper. When Namine tells Sora that he won't recall anything that happened to him in Castle Oblivion to regan his memories, it broke my heart to hear that Sora was willing to forget Namine. But it was so pretty when Sora was all "Even if I will forget you, this memory will always be inside of my heart" and in the FMV where Namine cries...-sniffle-

3) Death of Aerith - So, for those of you who don't know the story, I was just an 8 year old playing at Midnight when this scene came. I had grown quite attached to Aerith's character, and when Sephiroth came...The confused little gamer I was, I looked left and right, and proceeded to shed a tear.

2) Ending of "Teardrop Crystal" mission in Legend of Mana - Oh my goodness. This had such a strong impact on me. The fact that the Jumi was a dying race, and when I had "failed" to revive the Jumi, my character cries. And guess what? The legend was true; I turn to stone. Yes, my character turns to stone! And the jumi gets revived. Sacrificial situation. It was sad

1) Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time ending - -grabs boxes of tissues- It was very sad! The part where Link and Zelda are floating in the sky, and how Link had gone through so much to help Zelda regain the kingdom, and how they had such a strong love connection together...oh my, in the manga the look in Link's face...Okay! I'm sorry, but this ending just gets to me everytime!

Honorable Mentions

- "Death" of Goofy in KHII - Okay, I know this wasn't going to happen because KH is too damn Disney, so how could they let one of their characters die? But it was so "wtf" and my party is NOT and WILL NEVER BE complete without Goofy. I was screaming "This is NOT happening! This is too Disney!"

- Roxas becoming one with Sora - "Sora, you're lucky. Looks like my summer vacation...is over" That won me over <_<

- Ending of Star Fox 64 - The whole thing where Fox's dad comes and leads you out of Andross' lair, that got to me somehow. It was kind of sad how Fox was going to die and then his Father comes and is like "Don't worry, my son..." and Fox is all "FATHER?!"

goddess_in_pink07 - October 3, 2006 08:54 PM (GMT)
Death of Aeris: *sniffle* This hit me deep. I'm honest, I was hysterically crying when I first saw her die.... I just loved Aeris and her and Cloud made the cutest couple on earth.... Gosh, still to this day forward I cry when I see her die..... Damn you Nomura!!
Final Fantasy X ending: Tidus and Yuna were my first heart-throb Final Fantasy couple.... and, the ending had me choked up. Poor Yuna running to Tidus, and she falls right through him. If thats not tear jerking, what is? Tidus is one of my favorite characters, the last thing I wanted to see was him being parted from the girl he loves so much. .............................(but the good ending of FFx-2 put everything back the way its suppose to be.)
The ending of Jak III: WTF, what was Ashin doing with Jak, hu? Kira is Jak's love, and only love!! I was extremely upset seeing them together..... I was a big Kira fan, and I was totally disappointed. <_<
Silent Hill 2 ending: I thought it was really, really sad. James was looking for his wife that he loved so much, even though he knew she was dead, but that letter still gave him hope she was still alive, and waiting for him at Silent Hill. But, even though he didn't find her, he finally relieved himself of all his pain and misery.

Azumi - October 3, 2006 09:05 PM (GMT)
This is hard since I'm not moved easily when it comes to games.

4) Ending of Kingdom Hearts - The music is what did it for me. I was moved by Simple and Clean playing as soon as Sora's and Kairi's hands seperated. Then that silence when Kairi looks up at the stars/particles of their world before the song continued made my artistic side squee a little  That's just perfect timing. I know my reason doesn't exactly have to do with the content but like I said, it's hard for me to get really moved when it comes to videogames.

3) Ending of Final Fantasy VIII - The scenes withe Laguna and Raine, I felt a little emotional stab in my heart during the proposal then Raine's tombstone. The music didn't help either.

2) Ending of KHII Prologue - I got attached to Roxas. Although it was bittersweet, the part where he said to the sleeping Sora "Looks like my summer vacation is over" isn't what got to me, the part where Sora is leaving Twlight Town for the first time and sheds a tear but doesn't know why is what made my heart sink.

1) Before the epilogue in Lunar 2 Eternal Blue Complete - When Lucia leaves Hiro for the Blue Star! My eyes started watering with her farewell speech. After she learned so much about human emotion and her deep relationship with Hiro she chooses her duty in isolation over her love.

I can only come up with 4. ^^;

Amathala - October 4, 2006 12:45 PM (GMT)
Hmmm....hard to pick, seeing as I've played a lot of games.

KHII ending: The end made me feel all empty and sad, like a group of my friends were leaving for a very long time.

Legend of Dragoon ending: Oh geez! I cant even say how much this made me cry! The whole ending sequence, from the FMV, through the credits, to the very end scene...*sniffle!*

Fatal Frame II ending: What a shock that was for me...the way it ended was just...I was simply blown away.

Aerith's Death scene: Yeah, already self-explanatory lol...it wasn't the music that got me though, it was the utter shock that my favorite character just bit the dust. I was 16 and had no idea that she was going to die.

Fatal Frame III ending: So emotional, and the song in the background made me cry so much...

QUOTE (Azumi @ Oct 3 2006, 09:05 PM)
This is hard since I'm not moved easily when it comes to games.

Same here, I don't usually get attached to that extent. I don't think I'll be reaching top 5 either.

1) Suikoden 5: Death of Arshtat and Ferid. OMG, this whole sequence was just... This has to be the scene that has moved me the MOST amongst all the PS2 RPGs out there. The English voice acting was wonderful, and I adored the marriage and love between Arshtat and Ferid. To see them separated by death, and watching Arshtat kill her own beloved husband-- :cray:

2) Suikoden 2: Nanami carrying Riou on her back after he collapses, as they try to run away. This is really what wins me over as a Nanami fan, and made me WANT to replay the game to save her. Before this, she was just the older sister who spoke for Riou, but watching that whole scene play out really touched me. It's one of my clearest memories of the whole Suikoden series.

3) FFVII: Aerith's death. I've talked about it numerous times, so yeah. I don't think I'd cry over it if I ever watch it again, as that's just how I am, but that first time was really memorable. It wasn't so much the death of Aerith herself, as the playing of her theme song while you fought Jenova. THAT moment was bloody heart-wrenching.

4) Kingdom Hearts 2: Everything about Roxas. Even just playing through the Japanese version, all his sad scenes still managed to come across as utterly heart-breaking. I can't decide which of his scenes struck me most-- when he speaks to Sora before the game switches to Sora, when he's saying farewell to Sora before joining him, all the tiny moments like when his friends lift up those colourful balls from the trophy and he can't find his, when Sora cries in Twilight Town-- I can't decide, so I'm just lumping them all together.

5) Shadow Hearts 2: Nicolai's death. (This is better off as an honourable mention, but might as well make it the fifth one. :P) This didn't make me cry or anything, but it really sticks out because HOW he dies is such a shock. I've not seen any other death like this in any of my RPGs. His head was crushed/neck snapped by the main villain... and that's it. A bit of cringing by the heroine, but nothing else. THAT'S IT. A total opposite to the length of Aerith's death sequence and subsequent mourning; it was a totally undignified, short, but wonderfully WTF-ish death.

---

Hey, made it to 5!

Hmm, having read a couple of spoilers for Suiko5, I suspect there's one scene that might've been included had I reached that part of the game. Alas, a revision will have to wait until I return to Malaysia and finish the game through the holidays. ^^;

:lmao: I was so shocked when that happened, and I feel TERRIBLE, but the only thing my brother and I could do was laugh hysterically at others' reactions! :lmao: Just like you, I found it IMPOSSIBLE that Goofy would die. We just knew it couldn't happen, not in a million years, but man, that scene was awesome.

Zelda - October 4, 2006 03:17 PM (GMT)
5) Kingdom Hearts when the door closes on Riku and he just smiles and says "Take care for her".

4) Final Fantasy IX When Kuja is in the Iifa Tree telling Zidane he found out what it means to live just as he's dying.

3) Tales of Symphonia the ending. How can I not love it?

2) Kingdom Hearts 2 "My summer vacation is...over." *heart bleeds for Roxas*

1) Aeris' Death Ya rly. I don't think I've ever bawled like a baby the way I did when she died. Nothing beats the shock you feel when you first see this scene.

Maiden - October 4, 2006 04:16 PM (GMT)
Rinoa finding Squall in the ending of FFVIII: I love this scene, it brings out the Squinoaness in me. XD

Death of Aerith/Aeris: I kinda wasn't as sad, cause I was CloTi then, but the music made me cry though.

Kingdom Hearts Ending: I hate how Riku was just left behind in the end.

Kindgom Hearts II Ending: I was like so sad between Roxas and Namine, when you saw them in Sora and Kairi, I was like crying with joy.

Silent Hill 2 Ending: James and Mary. Oh! How sad, I can't believe James killed himself at the end.

Fatal Frame I Ending: I was so happy, when Kirie and her love was reunited again at the ending of the Xbox version. ^^

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time ending: The end where Link and Zelda float away, in the sky was just like so sad and romantic at the sametime. T_T

Anti-R - October 4, 2006 05:21 PM (GMT)
Umm... top 5, in no order.

1. Aerith's death in FFVII. Self explanatory.

2. Death of Ferid and Arshtat in Suiko5. Darn it, Lynn, you nailed it. I love their last stand, and how Arshtat literally broke down emotionally when she realized what she did to Ferid and finally gave in to her madness, and how Georg stand up to the challenge and kill her. Believe it or not, I was hoping they didn't die. Galleon just have to be cruel and told me the truth, darnit.

3. Breath of Fire IV Cray forced to kill Elina, the girl he loves, who was mutated as an Endless. Nina's words "I knew then... that I will never see my sister again." I find myself shouting "crap!". It also annoys me that I can't use my righteous anger to kick Yuna's behind.

4. KH1, Kairi and Sora seperated. Kairi saw the drawing in the cave. She sheds a tear, and made a paopu fruit drawing to be given to the Sora doodle. It's touching.

5. Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater. The epilogue. Taco is right. The Boss is awesome. She gave her life and her honor for her crappy country who doesn't care whatever happens to her. When Snake was shedding his tears by the unfairness of it all, so was I.

Runner Ups:

Angelo saving Marcello from falling off the ledge in DQVIII. Despite the latter being such a cold-hearted petty bastard who treats him like garbage, Angelo still cares for him.

Roy dying in Suikoden 5. My heart broke, since he is my favorite SoD ever. And he made a strong death scene as well. It was fortunate it's optional.

Dirge of Cerberus. Vincent's "All I ever wanted, is to see her smile." when he and Lucrecia were slowly drifting apart. It was such a simple line, but it made me feel bad for him for the rest of the game.

Miakis (Suiko5) protecting the door, crying her heart out that she can't protect Lymsleia and her being the Queen's Knight is all that she had. Seeing the usually perky girl being forced into that is pretty something.

Alchemist - October 5, 2006 01:10 AM (GMT)
I could only think of one but it's one that should be mentioned (even when it hasn't already):

The end of Ico

Please tell me I'm not the only one here who's played this criminally underrated game. And then please tell me I'm not the only one here who was struck hard by the emotional impact of the outcome. Both the music and visuals presented a devastatingly bittersweet ending that nothing I've seen since hasn't quite come close.

Marionette - October 5, 2006 09:03 AM (GMT)
A few that come to mind...

1. The ending of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. When EVA revealed the truth to Snake about the Boss' final mission. I love The Boss. <3 (Snake Eater is the first game I ever actually shed tears over)

2. The Death of Aerith. I knew it was coming. So, it didn't hit me hard, but I felt nostalgic the rest of the game.

3. When Agro (the horse) "died" in Shadow of the Colossus.

4. When Vamp killed Emma in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Hal's reaction was just heartbreaking.

5. The ending of Fatal Frame II.

Honorable mentions: The death of Sniper Wolf (Metal Gear Solid) The "In Water" ending (Silent Hill II)

Oh my goodness, I forgot about that game. But, your not alone! Ico was one of the greatest games ever to me, and its ashame that it didn't get very much attention.
It was very sad..... I thought it was a sweet, emotional game, that had an excellent plot. Yorda and Ico do make a very lovely couple.... and, in the re-released European version (yeah, Europe gets it re-released, but heaven forbids doing that in America) they had the cutest scene of them together eating watermelon. :fangirl:
But anyways, the ending was really, really touching. I couldn't help but get choked up.

Shadow of the Collosus: Extremely sad ending. Oh my goodness...... me and my sister both were in shock and sadness. It really shows you what someone will do to have a loved one back. :( After what The Wanderer went through, after all the hard, life-risking times trying to slay all the Collosus's, it was all....uh, damn that Dormin!! Its ending was very, very bittersweet, and I almost couldn't keep the tears back when The Wanderer was slowly aging, and the priest orders one of the guards to stab him... oh, god I was like "NO!!!! DON'T KILL HIM!!!!!"

But, endings that end bittersweet, are almost always the best. Like SOTC, its ending was o-so-bitter, but it left hope at the end. And, you can definately feel the connect between Ico and SOTC. I'd love to go into detail about how their stories link, but thats going off topic.

Marionette: I agree with you about Metal Gear. After what The Boss did, and no matter how evil she may seemed, it wasn't what it seemed at all. But.... it was so sad to see Snake have to take her down..... even though he cared about her so much....:cray: Oh god, why!!!

And, Sniper Wolf, WHY SNIPER WOLF!!! I was pretty little when I watched where she died, but I still remember it pretty well. She was my favorite Metal Gear character. Why did her fate have to be so cruel!? Why couldn't she have become good!

Silent Hill 2 Ending: James and Mary. Oh! How sad, I can't believe James killed himself at the end.

Depending on what version you play, there are 5 different endings. ^_^ It depends on what special items you pick up and how you treat the wench Maria. I always get the ending you got though.

And I too loved Ico. Incredibly underrated for such a beautiful game.

Pyra Kurai Akaidra - October 6, 2006 09:03 AM (GMT)
Yare, yare, from the games I've played and seen...In no particular order...

Final Fantasy VII - Aerith's funeral, verily much self-explanatory. The background, the lighting, only Cloud gently placing her down into the lake...

Shadow Hearts: Covenant - Attempted Resurrection of Alice in Disk 2, I love how Yuri act during all of this and the words exchange between them before the experiment failed.

Also Yuri's "Good" Ending tied with the failed resurrection on this list. He knew that in order to preserve what's dear to him, he have to die or face the Holy Mistletoe curse's consequences. By doing so, he can be with Alice once again, his love.

Final Fantasy VIII - The Ending FMV, from Rinoa finding Squall to the flashback of Laguna proposing to Raine, then we see him looking at her grave.

Kingdom Hearts: Chains of Memory - I'm with PH here, as a fellow Sora/Namine` fan. Even with going forward to restore his memories and may forget her, I love how he said though he'll forget her, his heart won't.

Kingdom Hearts 2 - I'm with you guys on Roxas in the prologue. All the things he do and remember in Twilight Town, only to find his life abrupted, then him seeing Sora...

Schala - October 6, 2006 07:16 PM (GMT)
Kingdom Hearts: Riku's goodbye. His expression as he told Sora to take care of Kairi seriously made me tear up.

Kingdom Hearts 2: The end of the Roxas chapter. When he says "You're lucky. Looks like my summer vacation is... over." I just felt so bad for him! Another minor moment that somehow got to me was when you beat Saix. Probably just because I really think that he just wanted a heart, that's all.

Aeris' death, of course.

Final Fantasy 9: Dagger and Zidane's reunion at the end. The whole sequence was so cool!

Resha - October 7, 2006 11:51 AM (GMT)
1. FFVII: Aerith's Death
who would not? Our favourite flower girl just died! On front of Cloud's eyes! Poor Cloud, you saw him breakdown, showing emotion, on front of Sephiroth!!!! I was like crying again and againa whenever I play FFVII, it was really a shock of her to die, no wonder Aerith was the reason why there is Advent Children, because it can be up without anyone, except for Cloud, Aerith and Sephiroth.

2. Kingdom Hearts II: Roxas
Well...I think it's obvious, knowing you were never meant to exist just goes me emo. "Sora, you're lucky...I guess me summer camp's over." At first I was so ready to use Sora as the character, but as you play Roxas, the more you know him, generally people love him. What it gives here is, when you feel, you exist. I always waited for all the members of XIII to mention his name, even on front of Sora. Nobodies did like Roxas, especially Axel, 'you made me feel, like I have a heart'.

3. Kingdom Hearts: Parting Away of Sora and Kairi
I really cried over here, while it played "Hikari", Kairi cried. It really reminded me of Cloud and Aerith's separation. More of same story.

4. Alice Academy: Mikan
Everything about her made me sad. Being a no star at first, having no friends except for Hotaru at all, everything about her made me cry. Her enthusiastic character to know Natsumei, the one I reckon 'the other Cloud' here, her support of her beliefs in everything, and no matter how Hotaru (her bestfriend) calls her 'idiot', she's really an Aerith to me...

5. Kyou Kara Maoh!: Yuri and Demon Tribe Haha, instead of being a humor it makes me cry everytime Yuri stands up to his beliefs, it's like he's forbidden to do anything un-King like, they will stop him.

YAY!! I made 5! That was hard!!!

Yukari - October 7, 2006 03:16 PM (GMT)
Ooh, I don't know whether I can think of five. I'm gonna have to include some manga here. In no order:

FFVII: Aerith's death. It was the sound of her materia hitting the altar, and how her theme started up just as it made that 'ting'. I cried like a little kid.

FFX: Ending. The only time I liked Tidus was when I was blitzball mad, after the novelty of that wore off and I started playing the game again, I found him annoying. But the ending, the music, how Yuna ran to him and passed straight through him, and how she was whistling on the docks at Luca, hoping he'd come back... It was really heart wrenching.

Ayashi no Ceres: Aki's death. I cried so much - it wasn't his actual death that upset me so much, it was Aya afterwards, crying over him and screaming his name. *sniffle*

Nana: When Shoji introduces Sachiko as his girlfriend, and Nana shouts at Hachi to fight for her boyfriend. Hachi just stands there crying and says she doesn't want a guy like that.

Wish: When God takes away Kohaku's powers for 100 years, and then Shuichiro dies. I cried all over my manga.

Tacofoolio - October 10, 2006 04:44 PM (GMT)
Oh, thought of another sad one!

KH2: Death of Axel
I liked him a lot, so his death was very sad for me. I really was interested in his friendship with Roxas, and I do wish he could have seen Roxas, even if he's a part of Sora.
