Title: Computer-cleaning Help
Bloodbath - September 23, 2006 02:15 PM (GMT)
Okay, I've been trying to clear out all the gunk in my laptop that I haven't used since 2004, mainly because I have less than 200 MB in my hard disk. At times though, it says that I have succesfully resolved the problem, but then it sinks all the way down to 1 MB in just a few hours. o_O
Not only that, but everytime I click on another folder, I lose like 1 MB just clicking on it.
Is it a virus? Or is my computer just too ancient and stuffed with junk?

Opening a folder then losing 1 MB isn't right...unless you have some HUGE files in there.
The best programs for tidying up are "Crap Cleaner" and "Clean Up!". They really get the job done, so try them and see if it helps. If they don't help, try using "Adaware" to search for possible problems with your laptop.
Hope that helps :)

I don't know much about computers, sadly, but I suggest you maybe move all your important stuff over to the D drive and clear out your C drive. I think my family's computer was experiencing the same problem a while ago. Otherwise, try defragmenting the C drive.

Oh, I see. I'll try to find those programs. But... do they take up a lot of space? Because I don't exactly have the space to give to download them. I have so few space that I can't even see some webpage properly. >.<
@HD: Wah. Defragmenting. D: I'll give it a shot.

I think they both take up about 2MB on your harddrive, so they're not big at all. If worst comes to worst, download one, run it, then uninstall it and then download the next one.
Defragmenting is a good idea too, as well as a Disk Cleanup. Though, in my experience, they don't help that much unless you've never done one. Worth a shot anyway since I think things can only get better for your system.

I say the best way to clean up is backup all of your stuff that's not really needed and delete them from your harddrive. (Music movies etc... they can all beplayed through a CD anyways)
200megs is close to nothing for me. I usually start backing up my harddrive when it reaches 30Gigs... >_> But thats probably because I can fill up 30 gigs in less than 3 or 4 days.
Yeah... I have anime, music, movies and PS2 ISOs coming in non-stop so I fill up fast.
Anyways... If you still have some wierd problems you can always backup and master reboot. Starting fresh is sometimes best. Especially if youre like me and create folders just to stuff all my old junk to make my desktop look clean. <_<;;
