Title: RPG Battle System

Sk8ierBoi - August 21, 2006 08:32 PM (GMT)
My favorite kind of RPG is turn based because I can have the time to plan what to do next. I can be able to avoid my mistakes and whatnot. I enjoy action based RPG's but I'm more turned on to turn based RPG's.

Turn base!! I love having to take my time, and not be in a rush. Its just so much more comforting in a big battle. I hate having the feeling of being rushed, and 1 wrong move can completely destroy your party. :worry:

Depends on what I'm in the mood for. I like turn-based battles, but it can get tiring after a while. The ones in FF7, 8, etc. >>; Man. One turn-based battle system I didn't get bored of so easily was Chrono Cross. I loved the stamina points and it was fun chaining attacks together like that.<3

I really love Kingdom Heart's action-based battles though. Running around and just bashing stuff senseless with Sora's keyblade... Oh, the joy.

Action based! I really dislike turn based battles, because after a while leveling up feels more like a chore. I have a lot more fun with action based battles.

Action-Based for me. I like the fact that you can just run around and bash stuff until there's nothing left. XD But, I like turn-based too. Just taking your time and planing your next move is okay every once in a while. After a hour or so it kinda get boring.

I like the turn-based action-based hybrid... Tales of Desiny, Valkyrie Profile, Grandia 2 and 3, and Star Ocean 2 all had these... They're all very different versions of the same thing though.

Which is another reason why I like it so much. You can have several games all with the action/turn based battle systems but each would be very different.

I voted "Other" because I really like them all. I have a lot of different style games. Games like the FF series are fun, but so are Dynasty Warriors, DMC, and Kessen. I also liked Legend of Dragoon's battle system as well, where you had to hit the right button at the right time to get your combos.

In addition, Parasite Eve's battle system is quite fun too, different from most games that I've played.

Mista: How IS Grandia 3? I have 2 for the PC, and was wanting to pick up 3 if it's any good...

I like all sorts...because what I really look at when I play a game is its storyline and characters. Looking through my collection of games though, most of mine are either turn-based or as MCS mentioned, a hybrid combination of both turn/action- based. I guess I would vote "other" then.

I have that game, Amathala!
Grandia 3 has a really, really good battle system. IMO, it's superior/more fun than that of part 2. There was also a lot of improvement graphics-wise. However, I thought Grandia 2 had a much better storyline, and its characters were better developed.

Thankies for telling me. I'd like to pick it up when I get the chance. I put DoC in layaway today at work, so it'll have to wait...I dont even think we have Grandia 3 anymore...we had it when it first came out. Next on my list though is FFXII and a PSP...must have a PSP for Core Crisis...

Turn based.

Well, I'm gonna be a bit biased and say it's because Final Fantasy uses it. But I think they're great RPGs, so it works for them. You can't imagine being able to control Cloud like you can Sora from KH, it'd take away a certain element from the game.

Also, Grandia is a good example of this too. Even thought they do move about, at it's simplest, Grandia is a turn based game. It's probably my favourite RPG which isn't FF, and that's saying something, and it works awfully well.

So, yeah, turn based.

is action based the same with Real Time Battle?
hmm... i guess.
i go both for RealTime/Action and Turn Based. both are challenging in its own ways. but let's say i like Real Time better because leveling up in RT is fun! :D turn based leveling up can be very boring and tiring. T_T i also like Linear Motion Battle System (Tale of games) and Chrono Cross's unique turn based system was really good. i like the idea of stamina points just like what Key said! :D

I vote 'Other'.

Personally, I enjoy both turn-based and tactical battle system, as I like to pace myself and think on how to approach it.

But my favourite system would probably be the Shadow Hearts series' Judgement Ring. 8D
