Title: Instruction Booklet
Description: From the new Dirge of Cerberus game

Lucas_FFXI - August 17, 2006 01:49 AM (GMT)
Hey I got the game and it's really good. According to the instruction booklet, I read the part about the past. I'll tell you about Tifa and Aerith.

Many gathered around Cloud in this struggle:
- Tifa Lockhart, Cloud's childhood friend and a master of martial arts.
- Aerith Gainsborough, a girl with the blood of the Ancients running through her veins, who Cloud would never forget.

So what do you think? :fanboy: Cloud and Aerith, never forget. And also Cloud and Tifa, friends.

I think the correct term would have been runned.

Anyways, How would he forget her? Her consciousness resides within him.

Zomg, these are official, right?? :woot:

Excuse me while I fangirl. :fangirl:

EDIT:
*****SPEAKING of DOC, I JUST SAW A COMMERCIAL FOR IT ON TELEVISION!! :hyper:

They're still insisting on the whole "Cloud's childhood friend" thing though <_< If Square CLEARLY STATED WITHIN THE FREAKING GAME that Cloud and Tifa were NOT friends, why do they keep calling her that?

Angelalex242 - August 17, 2006 07:35 AM (GMT)
Meh. Let them have the childhood friend...if by childhood friend you mean girl who picks on you or at least doesn't stand up for you.

Or perhaps they're referring to the promise Tifa made a point of dragging out of poor Cloud.

Ah well.

It's irrelevant.

There's a whole song called 'Unforgetable." ;)

Lynn - August 17, 2006 08:14 AM (GMT)
:hyper: Thanks for posting it, Lucas! *SQUEE*

Actually, I'm more excited by the fact that they included Aerith at all. XD That last part was an added bonus!

I think it's just the easiest way for SE to refer to Tifa's role throughout the game. How else would they describe her? Just "martial artist" isn't good enough, as she DOES have a link to Cloud--it's just extremely complicated to explain in a tiny character blurb.

I suppose they could've used something like "childhood acquaintance", but that sounds a bit... clumsy?

FF_Goddess - August 17, 2006 02:35 PM (GMT)
*Iz teh happeh about Aerith getting mentioned* :dance2:

I agree with Lynn on the "childhood friend" bit. It's easier to explain Cloud and Tifa's relationship by saying "childhood friend" rather than "they grew up together with Cloud wanting to be accepted, but Tifa's group snubbed him, then Tifa wanted Cloud to be her hero when he made it into SOLDIER, but he didn't, then they met later and really became friends".

Lynx - August 17, 2006 04:51 PM (GMT)
It is nice that she is mentioned in the booklet even if she is not a herione of the game. But this 'childhood friend' thing becomes annoying. Though I agree with Lynn and FF_G.

Nina - August 17, 2006 06:37 PM (GMT)
Oh, I don't feel uncomfortable with the "childhood friend" bit at all! ^_^ Like what Lynn and FF_G basically summed up, Tifa was a link to Cloud's past, so it would be easier to title her as his "friend" at the time since... well, most people tend to see it that way (cough). Well, she had to be referred to in association with Cloud anyway, so "childhood friend" is enough for me. ;)

I also completely love the "never forget" part of Aerith's description, along with the fact that they included her in the first place. :woot: Gee, I am so fangirling in the inside that it's not even funny!!

yin-chan - August 18, 2006 12:34 AM (GMT)
Ooooh awesomeness! :D Aerith's not even in the game and she gets a mention?! With Cloud 'never forgetting' her as well! Shows how important she is in his story that she has to pop up wherever his name (and/or Tifa) appears. :fangirl:

I'm not bothered by Tifa's 'childhood friend' either. She did know him when they were kids, so there's nothing too wrong with 'childhood friend'. At least it's not 'childhood sweetheart'!!

Anti-R - August 18, 2006 07:31 AM (GMT)
Am glad it's childhood friend and not life partner. XD

Zelda - August 18, 2006 09:00 PM (GMT)
*does the insane happy dance of joy* :yahoo:

Aeris was mentioned! Yes yes yes!!

And..."Childhood friend"...*snicker* Another year goes by and poor Tifa still isn't getting any.

Pyra Kurai Akaidra - August 18, 2006 09:29 PM (GMT)
I'm not bother by the 'childhood friend' bit at all. Even with Tifa being alive and well, Cloud can 'never forget' Aerith. A lot more simpler this way and a plus to us. :D

Sefie - August 18, 2006 11:36 PM (GMT)
Aw well, you guys're right

*Joins in the squee fest over Aeris being mentioned*

FF_Goddess - August 25, 2006 01:49 PM (GMT)
I just received DoC the other day. I haven't had a chance to play it yet (since I am currently replaying FFVIII). However, Tifa is only mentioned once in the instruction booklet. :P It's pretty funny. In regards to talking about the past, Aerith is mentioned a lot. Gee, and some people say Tifa is the ZOMFG HEROINE OF FFVII. Guess not.

goddess_in_pink07 - August 25, 2006 10:48 PM (GMT)
OMFG, these are official words out of the booklet???!!!! Good Lord! :o :hyper: I'm sooo glad Aeris was mentioned!!! Sooooo happy!!

*dances* Teehee, thats soooooo cool! OMG, thats just plain "AWESOME".

Tankies soooo muchy!! That simple line made meh day!! LOl, CLOUDANDAERITHFOREVAHHH!!!!! :cleris:

Are you talking about DoC, FF_G?
Aerith was mentioned a lot in regards to Cloud's past? If so, what was mentioned about her other than what was said about Cloud never forgetting her?

I'm glad she was mentioned ^^
I'd hate for the original game's main heroine to just disappear without a single trace even if DoC isn't Cloud's story.

FF_Goddess - August 26, 2006 03:21 AM (GMT)
Let's see... From the booklet, lines about Aerith in regards to the past:

"Aerith learned of the danger to the planet and prepared to use Holy, a sacred magic of the Ancients, to stop Meteor. However, she was felled by Sephiroth's blade."

"In the midst of the chaos, Aerith's dying prayers were finally answered and Holy rose against the wicked magic."

Aerith is also mentioned in the little blurb originally posted (*Still loves the "never forget" line* :cleris:). Tifa is mentioned a grand total of once.

It's interesting in how they describe Cloud's journey and the effects of the story of FFVII on him: "his lost past and a cruel fate for the future".

Hades' Daughter - August 26, 2006 04:02 AM (GMT)
^Ah, thank you for sharing. Despite her not having been mentioned in the actual game itself, it looks like SE tried to mention her as much as possible in the manual. They wuv the flower girl :woot:

That's pretty surprising. For being FFVII's "main heroine", Tifa sure didn't get much spotlight in regards to FFVII's main plot.

Actually, I was really surprised when I first heard people saying she was FFVII's main heroine.

I wonder what they mean by that...

Me, too. I thought it was pretty obvious that Aerith was the main heroine. Even Nomura himself said he never intended Tifa to replace Aerith. That should be proof enough that Tifa was never the main heroine before or after Aerith's death.

QUOTE (Hades' Daughter)

My little ClAeris mind wants to think that the "cruel fate for the future" refers to Cloud having to live the rest of his life without the woman he loves. But, who knows...

lololol....sorry I just thought of this and laughed, so sorry that it is off topic....

lolol *gains composure*

Okay so I pictured Cloud taking a shower *drool* and he steps out for his towel *double drool* and Tifa is hiding behind the door peaking because she can't get any...lol.

okay actually not that funny...now that I typed it. but meh.

I wonder what that means too! Cruel fate for the future?! Goodness. You'd think his future would be incredibly nice and easy now, with all the bad guys gone. Unless they're planning more spin-offs for FF7 where all Cloud's friends die or something. :o

Same here, never thought Tifa was the heroine. She didn't seem like typical FF heroine material to me, y'know, the whole cheery, white mage thing..

Clerith-son - August 27, 2006 12:33 AM (GMT)
Meh, Sephiroth is Cloud's eternal stalker, he'll find his way back.

Anyways, there's a big difference between having a large fanbase, and being main hero/heroine. SE has always portrayed Cloud & Aerith as the main heroe and heroine (respectively), and Sephiroth (therefore in some way JENOVA as well) as the main antagonist. But I think that if Tifa fans wants to see her as the main heroine, there's no problem at all.
