Title: Your Favorite Part Of Ffvii

Sadhana - July 31, 2006 03:23 AM (GMT)
If this is in the wrong section, my bad. I couldn't think of a better place. It said we discuss all parts of the game here... so I hope this counts.

So, since we're on a forum dedicated to a pairing from this game, I'm going to assume that a lot of people here really loved FFVII. That being true, what was it that really made you love the game? The battle system, the enemies, the story?

For me, I loved a lot of things. But what set it apart from other games I've played can definitely be boiled down to three things: Cloud, Aerith, and Sephiroth. Don't get me wrong, I love all the other characters. But these three in particular and their relationship were what makes FFVII my favorite video game.

Allow me to elaborate. First, let's start with Aerith. Looking beyond her personality (which I loved), her relationship with Cloud was so charming. I would obviously think so or I wouldn't be here  . I loved how the creators developed it... having these two perfect strangers meet each other and immediately hit it off. The upfront way Aerith flirted with him, and the confident, blase Cloud we thought we knew suddenly melts away. I loved how she dissolved his emotionless shell so that the players could get a glimpse of the real Cloud.

Then the fact that she died. Can anyone say "Biggest Shock EVER"? Not only that, but the way it was built up just made the moment unavoidably heart-breaking. Just before this, Cloud (most likely) goes on a date with Aerith. Then they go to the Temple of the Ancients, and he finally gets to see her Cetra powers in action. You can tell how fascinated he's suddenly becoming of her. Then he hurts her against his will, and feels awful about it. He passes out, and she enters his dreams to talk to him. Although he tries to chase after her to stop her from going to the City of the Ancients, he's immobilized. And when he finally finds her again... he loses her before his very eyes, only standing a few feet away. It's as though just as he slowly begins to understand his true feelings for her, she dies. It captured me on so many emotional levels.

And Cloud turning out to not have been in SOLIDER at all? The fact that he was just a regular guy all of this time? I thought that was great. Throughout the game, he was the strongest in the party, the bonified hero. And once the player grows attached to that image, it turns out to be completely untrue. That really allowed connect more with Cloud's character, knowing that he was just a regular guy and not a super hero.

Lastly, I come to Sephiroth. The greatest villian in FF. What makes him such a great villian? The rivalry between him and Cloud. The way that even before the game starts, Cloud has a score to settle with Sephiroth for killing his mother and burning his home to the ground. So Cloud and Player go chasing after the mysterious and elusive man in the black coat, not fully understanding yet who he is. And then what does he do? Sephiroth kills the hero's love interest only half-way through the game. Not only does that sure as hell make Cloud that much more motivated to kill Sephiroth, but it also emotionally involves the player as they lost a character who (most of the time) they really liked. The player also hates Sephiroth.

"One Winged Angel" fit the mood of its battle so perfectly. That song really captured the boss, the omnipotent Sephiroth who is almost godly in his demonic ways. And whoever came up with the idea for the one-on-one final battle between Cloud and Sephiroth was a genius. Becuase in the end, that's what it came to... the hatred between the two of them. And in the end, it was Cloud and only Cloud who opened up a can of Omnislash on his ass. Perfect.

And immediately afterwards, we're reminded of the beautiful but tragic love between Cloud and Aerith with the hand-reach scene. Wonderful.

Basically, in case you skipped that unnecessarily long post, what made me really love FFVII was Cloud, Aerith, and Sephiroth. What made you love the game?

I happen to remember that Aerith's death scene was and still is the number one spoiler...
:aeris:

Anyway, among all the great scenes I happen to witness, it would be the final FMV. he hand reach scene really says so in a silent way by showing it clearly that Cloud loves Aerith back and vice versa.

To shorten this, Sephiroth is a character you want to get hurt but you don't want him to die. He's really useful for making Cloud show more emotions... I think that Sephiroth killing is Aerith is his move that made Cloud sadden and anger more. Also his main reason why he has to kill our silver haired bishie.
Remember this?

Cloud "Aerith is gone."

Cloud "Aerith will no longer talk, no longer laugh, cry... or get angry..."

Cloud "What about us... what are WE supposed to do?"

+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+

Cloud "What about my pain?"

Cloud "My fingers are tingling. My mouth is dry. My eyes are burning!"

Sorry but I found it so sweet...one of my favourite scenes!!! ^_^ of course, with a burden of sadness due to Aerith's death.

And I also remember that the most favorite FF male character is Cloud, most favorite FF female is Aerith, and most favorite FF video game would be FFVII. I think FFVII has the greatest plot of all FF.

My Favorite part was the date with Cloud and Aeris i almost cried. I shouted at the screen a few times.

CLOUD TELL AERIS YOU LOVE HER i shouted

Excellent post, sadhana!

Unlike you, I wasn't so deeply into the game in the first place. The only reason I played it was because of Aerith. I was a very shallow little girl and played it only because of the romance factor between Cloud and Aerith. Things like graphics and battle systems and storyline didn't really matter that much to me. All that mattered was getting Aerith on the date! :hide:

I love your interpretation of that. I'm one of those fans that believe that Cloud realized just exactly how important Aerith was to him after she died. It's that sort of cruel irony that really pulls at the heartstrings. It also makes the emotional impact so much bigger, and you can almost taste the regret and sorrow Cloud feels at her loss and his sudden realization of the emptiness she left behind.

This kinda reminds me of the saying, "I love you came too late." Yeah, I think Cloud's realization just came ironically. Like, Aerith died after five seconds, Cloud realizes he loves her. Such fate.

Hm, it's hard to pick out a favourite part of the game, the characters were good, the graphics were excellent...but I think the music was really good.

The first time you fought against a boss and the music was different, it was cool! You felt as if it was going to be more of a struggle to beat this enemy (Which sadly, it wasn't, since it was only Air Buster).

And again, the first time you fight Jenova, different music to add effect to the beast you're fighting against. Yeah, you've fought bosses before, but Jenova is Sephiroth's mother (in a sense), it was different to other battles.

The next major music change was when you fought Jenova at the end of Disc 1. Aeris' theme was on as she had just been killed and you go straight into a boss fight (a pretty tricky one too). Aeris' theme in that fight really added a haunting atmosphere, you'd just witnessed a friend die and now you're in battle. There was no way you could fully concentrate.

Of course, the music changed most dramatically at the very end with One Winged Angel, one of my favourite FF tracks. It was the best music you could ask for while fighting the enemy which had caused all your problems throughout the game. He killed Aeris, he tried to kill you loads, he's planning on destroying the world : he deserves an awesome theme song :P

But I didn't just like it for the music

Wow, wonderful post Sadhana. I really like what you have to say here.

*Spoilers*
For me it is really hard to pick a part that I like the most and I have been trying to to think about it. I just have such an appreciation for this game as a whole because it introduced me to RPGs. I had no idea they had so much thought and detail put into them, besides that it was so much fun to play. The death scene with Aeris was extremely emotional for me and remember my boyfriend(now husband) asking me who my favorite character was not long before that scene takes place which of course was Aeris and he later said he felt so bad for me because he know it was coming. When she died I was so upset and crying I actually lost to Jenova and had to go through it a second time. So even now the two areas before that (Ancient Temple and heading to Forgotten City) are the places I always dread the most.

Now that I have played the game many times I think I would have to go with th parts I look forward to the most. I always look forward to when we(the gamer) are officially introduced to Aeris and I have to much fun while in the wallmarket trying to get the items to dress up Cloud. So I guess that is a favorite part of mine. I also love the part where the go to the Shinra Headquarters and get Aeris and Red.

Sefie - July 31, 2006 08:52 PM (GMT)
Geez...my FAVORITE part of my FAVORITE game? Ugh...erm...
Well, first of all there's Aeris. The girl is perfect in my eyes. The best character ever designed for anything EVER. She's cute, spunky, kind, ethereal, mysterious yet totally open...gah, if I were a guy or gay I'd totally steal her from Cloud xD

Limit Breaks. Hell. Yeah. I think that FFVII had the best system for Limits of all the games. I loved how you built them up, and the side quests for the Ultimates. It was such fun

The battle system was the closest to perfect of any game, and I love all the different Materia combos you do. Dude, I just loved Materia xD Everybody can use whatever and you level the Materia itself up. But also, it DID matter which character had what to a degree. Good Magic and spirit were requried for awesome healing and such.

Oh golly, the PLOT. It was a masterpiece and a delight to play through. All those twists that weren't annoying but awesome and convincing. The characters that you met, and cried at their loss. How attached you could feel to the towns people. And the subtle symbolizm. I also totally dig how convoluted it was, and how many times I had to play it to totally understand.

I don't think that I can choose a favorite scene...Honestly, there are so many AWESOME ones. At the top of my list though are:
The scene after defeating the Temple of the Ancient's boss. "Interuppted by Fireworks" playing as Cait Sith tells Aeris she and Cloud are perfect for each other, then the enraging scene afterwards where Sephiroth takes control of Cloud and makes him beat Aeris. Gah. *Wipes eyes*
THE. ENTIRE. ENDING. It was one of the most awesomest EVAR.
Climbing the Shinra building  So hilarious

Ugh, this post is long enough, I think I've made my point ^_^ FFVII is the most awesomest Evar.

I agree with you Sefie. I loved the limit breaks and the game defiantely has the best materia system of all the FF in my opinion.

Just a really fun ggame to play! Uh I think I already said that opps! Anyway I agree.

Angel of Cleris - December 8, 2007 01:05 PM (GMT)
I really, really loved the Gold Saucer date with Aeris. It really showed how Aeris felt for Cloud. The last scene (the one Aeris' hand reaches to Cloud) also touched me.
Well, the best parts were always the Clerises for me, but I've also liked the Junon Celebration. What a parade!

sessystalker - December 14, 2007 02:01 AM (GMT)
My favorite thing about FFVII is the story. Not just the main story, but each and every characters' own story as well. Especially Cloud, Aerith, Zack, and Sephiroth's.

My favorite part of the game was Aerith's death. D: The emotions were just boiling over in that scene. Just like someone else pointed out earlier, after witnessing one of your favorite characters passing, you're just tossed into battle after an emotional breakdown. The concentration is just hard then! I remember when I first played the game, I had to pause and leave the game for a few minutes to get my crying done...just to come back, fight, and cry all over again. XD

Kit - December 14, 2007 12:08 PM (GMT)
Hardly much I can say, really. I hated Materia, the battle system was OK, and the story wasn't THAT great but... if I had to put my beans some where it'd have to be in characters. Not story. Characters. I fell in love with Tifa, was enraptured by Cleris, amused by cute little Yuffie, and heart broken at the "death" of the epic bad boy Rufus. So props to SE.

MistaCloudStrife - December 14, 2007 01:00 PM (GMT)
Mmm... I loved everything about Final Fantasy VII. Yeah that sounds like a generic fanboy sentence right there, but I'm not going to single out one part just to make myself sound less of a fanboy.

I played the game when it first came out simultaneously with the majority of my friends. During that time we would share information and such about how we were progressing through the game and we were astonished at how simple and yet complex it was. Small things like getting Cloud chosen by Don Corneo(I was chosen and my friends weren't, so they thought I was lying until I showed them), going up the stairs or going up the elevator at ShinRa HQ(I went the long way and my friends all took the elevator, my bad), and getting a date with either Aeris, Tifa, Yuffie, or Barret(Just to name a few) were things that amazed us back in the day.

The materia system was also one of the things I really liked. My friends and I would tell each other where to find which materias and what enemies had certain enemy skills. At disc 2 and 3 we would start sharing nice materia combinations we figured out and boast about the materias we found or mastered(however many times).

And don't even get me started on the Chocobo Breeding system. I loved it. If I were to try it again, I probably won't find much fun in it anymore, but the first time through figuring everything out on your own, it gives you a nice sense of accomplishment. And getting the KotR materia was so worth it.

As for the characters and the story... Well I'm a full on attack type of player when I play RPGs, so I use people with high attack all the time,(I hate a hard time in RPGs which require magic users during certain boss fights >_> ) and didn't really make use of Aeris until the 3rd or so time I played through the game.(Got her final weapons, last limit etc) But I still loved her and Cloud the most, character-wise. And I ended up really liking alot of the characters back stories. Just spending time exploring and accidentally ending up in Lucrecia's cave and getting to see Vincent's story was a nice treat. Same goes with the Cloud and Zack secret cinema.

Overall story-wise... Well, my friends and I talked about it everyday for the first couple years it was out. We already discussed what we thought about Jenova, Sephiroth, and Cloud. We made up theories and all of that. I think unraveling the story, and piecing everything together in your head is what really made FFVII's story fun.

And I can't forget the graphics!! Amazing graphics for when it first came out. It's always fun with the newer FFs wondering when you can take your hands off the controller and watch a nice FMV, and Final Fantasy VII started that tradition. And the in game graphics really weren't bad either. And in-battle graphics and animations were really really amazing.

Am I forgetting anything?? Meh- my answer is basically I love everything about VII. =P

Angel of Cleris - December 16, 2007 11:17 AM (GMT)
I also loved how Cloud felt helpless and guilty after Aeris' death. He was finally there and saw Aeris praying. He almost killed her himself, but was able to snap out of the trance Sephy made. And then, as she opens her eyes, lips curved in a smile, Sephiroth drops down and stabs her, leaving her lifeless in her lover, Cloud's arms. It was without a doubt emotional and beautiful, minus the Aeris dying part. It's what really fuels the player to continue his/her journey to defeat Sephiroth. The music was fitting, and it was one of the factors that made it a tear-jerking moment. Fighting Jenova there while Aeris' theme is playing is also great, and gives you a sense of avenging her. It's just really one of the best parts that make the game (and Cleris) extremely likeable.

TheMachine - December 19, 2007 03:07 PM (GMT)
Aerith sinking into the water... okay it's not my 'favorite' scene... it does rate very high on the sad-o-meter, but it is the best scene. No other game I've ever played came close to the intensity of that moment.

Other games have plots. But this is what made FF7 into a story. That scene is what told me "this is real, she isn't coming back."

Still it leaves an empty feeling at the end. Sure, Sephy is dead. The Planet is saved, etc. But the one who made it all happen is dead and gone. She'll never Laugh, Cry or Get Angry... and Cloud is left alone. Tifa could never fill those shoes...

AHH!! so many great moments, its hard to choose, but i would have to say it was between Aerith's death scene/burial scene and Cloud falling through Aerith's Church. The death scene/burial scene, like you guys have already stated, Cloud then realised how important Aerith was to his life, kinda like "You'll never miss something until its gone" or something like that. He should have said something! xD anyway, i thought it was very emotional and it was one of the key story plots that made Final fantasy VII the great game it is now. Heck even with its graphics, it manages to hold a a firm grip on its gamers because of the great story line.

As for the whole Church thing, i was actually so excited getting Aerith in my party, why? Because at the beginning i was not a supporter of either Aerith or Tifa, but i wanted to know what Aerith would say to Tifa and vice versa when it comes to the love triangle, i tried reading the manual several times to see if there would be hints to when she was going to join. And when i saw her selling flowers in Midgar after the mission, i was very disappointed she wasn't with me then. But after the whole falling thing, and i see her, i squealed like a little fan girl and wagged my finger in the screen. "AHHH!!! THE FLOWER GIRL!"

So yeah, im not sure which scene i like the best D; But it doesn't matter, cause they are both clorith's anyway xD

Psssstttt ... I also like the scene where Cloud gives CPR to that little girl and she proclaims herself as Cloud's fiancee xD

IchigoXLover - January 26, 2008 06:57 PM (GMT)
Haha lol I know when I first played it I kept asking my sister "am I gonna meet her yet?"
With every part until I finally got her :D and when I lost her to tseng I flipped cuz it took sooo long to get her....so yeah getting aerith is definetly one of my fav moments :aeris:

Pyra Kurai Akaidra - January 26, 2008 09:21 PM (GMT)
Favourite parts in FFVII are Cleris Church meeting (the entire scene and atmosphere practically scream 'DESTINED'), I love their talk and the beginning of the breakdown in Cloud's cold persona, especially when you consider the difference in price. Date > 2000 Gil schooling fee.

Another is Wall Market, I know some of you think so too. :lmao: Who wouldn't get cracked at their dear, beloved creation that is Miss Cloud?

Others include the Gold Saucer date (Aerith), watching the flashback about Zack and Cloud's escape from Shinra Mansion and last, but not least, the ever so emotional Aerith's Burial.

Kuraudo - January 26, 2008 11:04 PM (GMT)
Eh, I really can't narrow it down to my one favorite part of FFVII, simply because I love the entire game. I feel the entire thing is amazing.

I could pretty much say that I love every scene that has Cloud in it. He was my first love when I played the game, my favorite character from the beginning.

To name a few parts, I love Cloud and Aerith's first meeting, meeting Cid in Rocket Town, playing as Cid while Cloud is a vegetable, the very first AVALANCHE mission, going to Junon for the first time and seeing Rufus there, every Clerith scene, turning Cloud into a girl in Wall Market, Aerith's beautiful death scene, Bugenhagen and his space museum thing, Nanaki and Seto's scene, I stared at the screen in awe the first time I saw Sephiroth's back retreat into the wall of flames in Nibelheim...

I loved learning more about Cloud's past as the game went on... Oh, and can't forget the Turks. They made the game ten times cooler than it already was. I loved running into them at different points in the game.

I'm forgetting many things, so I'm just going to say that I love FFVII in general, I love everything about it. Story, characters, gameplay, graphics...

AerithGainsborough - January 27, 2008 12:05 AM (GMT)
My favorite part of the game is
ALL of IT.
all of the game rox!
