Welcome guys! Ah, Sonic's best years was on the Mega Drive with the classic 2D platformers. The first Sonic is probably my favourite out of the series, its got some of the best zones in it including Green Hill and Star Light.
Anyone who had the Mega Drive, remember the Streets of Rage series? I love it to death! It was the side scrolling beat em up where you could play with Axel, Blaze, Adam and others to fight the crime syndicate that had taken over the city ^_^

I've always thought that Sonic lost its touch once he went 3-D. Up to Sonic 3 I always thought that he was the cool/serious type of character (remember when you stoppped moving him like for a minute and then Sonic crossed arms and looked at ya?), but once he went 3-D he was turned into a good guy, that's why I think they came up with Shadow, who I think is just a rip-off from the old Sonic, but with a tragic past.
Streets of Rage? I only played the 2nd one, and it was friggin' awesome. My favourite charcater was Axel, I loved to burn those gangsters while beating them. I also loved beating whores that tried to whip me.
