Title: Golden Sun
Description: and Golden Sun: The Lost Age
Paladin's Heart - July 2, 2006 03:56 PM (GMT)
Okay, since I haven't seen many Golden Sun fans around here, or know anyone that has played/beaten it around here, I'd thought this might catch some peoples eyes. And perhaps a little information for those who want to play it.
My opinion? Golden Sun/TLA was one of the best RPGs on the GBA. It was really stratigic with all it's puzzels and dungeons and what not. (The temple in Contigo in TLA with the logs really got me puzzled! :D) Plus, the battle system similar to FFX was kind of cool, AND, am I the only one here who liked the Djinn system? The graphics were beautiful for the GBA, an example is when Isaac/Felix use Ragnarok!
The story? I loved it, even though every conversation can be summarized into 'We have to beat this guy and save the world!' The story is set in the World of Weyard where the power of Alchemy was abused. So these wise men sealed the power of Alchemy in this special place called the Sol Sanctum so that all hell won't break lose. Basically some dudes take the stones that was the key to Alchemy and they try to light the lighthouses so that Alchemy would unleash and the Golden Sun would rise.
I had some problems with this game too. For one, Felix in TLA was the exact clone of Isaac. I don't mean character wise but battle stats wise. AT LEAST they could've given him different abilities. And the same with Sheba. She was an Ivan clone. They too have the same EXACT spells and stats. And, the puzzles. I know I said that I liked a game that gets you thinking but the puzzles were annoying sometimes. One to name is the Jupiter Lighthouse. Because it had to do with so much backtracking and psynergy commands!
Oh yes! And the music. Did I mention how I LOVE Motoi Sakuraba's works? In Star Ocean too. Even though his work in Golden Sun was a bit mediocre, I can say that Imil, Jenna's Battle Theme, AND the Sol Sanctum (not the actualy place where you climb up, the one with the room with the Elemental Stars) were some of the nicest pieces I've heard in GS. Plus, buth Battle Themes in GS and GS:TLA were nice too. Even though... GS' was kind of hyperly happy...
Phew! Okay, has anyone else played this game?

I love it! =D
The first one had waay too many pointless dialogues though, and the animation for them to react between lines took too long. It got on my nerves at times. Between the two, I liked The Lost Age more. I love it when you get to see Isaac and the rest of them from the first one in the second one xD; Especially when Isaac actually talks!
**Spoiler**
What you find out about in the second one makes the first game seem like a total waste though =/ I kinda wished they (Isaac and them) were the right ones. It would have been cool if you were playing the bad guys in the second one. Instead it was misunderstood good guys vs good guys.
**End Spoiler**
Isaac & Team > Felix & Team

Yay, Another GS fan! :huggle:
I agree with your first statement. :/, Especially when you left Kalay, and even when you cast Psyenrgy. The story could've been better if actually Isaac and co. were opposing Felix and co. ... somehow., either way, the two parties could be opposing each other, forming some misguided rivarly and fanboys going "I did NOT expect this!!!"
Plus, I have to admit the 'Felix-is-alive' thing wasn't TOO shocking.
I also set this thread up to find other fans who like some GS pairings. Isaac x Mia anyone? ^_^
EDIT: I kind of played this game when I was like...10 so I'm kind of trying to remember everything. Oh well, just another excuse to play the game again.

Yay, IsaacxMia! I love that couple. Though I think it was more hinted towards IsaacxJenna. I think there was more of a MiaxAlex too.

Hmm... because of the Madra blushing scene, right?
So, of COURSE Jenna would blush, right? I mean, she is a teenage girl who is being teased about her feelings. Plus of all the attention she was getting at an unexpected moment. I don't think she ever admited to having feelings toward Isaac, and I don't think we have confirmation (or evidence) of Isaac liking her. Besides that line where Garet says something along the lines of 'Isaac being deathly-worried about her'. I mean, who WOULDN'T be "deathly-worried" about a childhood friend whom you've grown up with and known for most of your life was kidnapped and used as a hostage right before your eyes? Going back to the Madra scene though, Valeshipping (Isaac x Jenna) could be proven one-sided ;).
Imilshipping (Mia x Alex)? I don't know, Mia did seem pretty mad at him when she found out he'd betrayed their clan for his selfish desires after the Mercury Lighthouse.
I like Flameshipping (Garet x Jenna) though. Can we say 'the painfully long, but ever so cute' conversation before heading off to Kraden's house in Vale? Plus, it was also cute how Isaac and co. kept helping/saving Mia in the Mercury Lighthouse, and after like, what, a good 5 minutes, Mia says she can trust him? Aaaand, the scene in Colosso. She smiles at his well-being.
Oh well, I'm not sure Nintendo/Camelot intended to make GS a romance game. Even though Isaac/Felix were both mute in their games, I think it shows how we (the players) incorprate the character into our own thoughts, and thats why Isaac didn't have much dialog in the first game and the same with Felix. Kind of like Link in Legend of Zelda. :D. I guess this could lead onto further discussions, but I'll save that for later use ;).
Oh, and I just had to share this:

NOW WITH KRADEN MARSHMALLOWS IN EVERY BOX! :lmao:

I don't remember the scenes that well. xD
But I just remember thinking 'aww, I love Isaac and Mia together, but it seems that it'll be more towards Isaac and Jenna...'
I think there was some hints of Garet liking Jenna, but I thought that was one sided. I don't remember what it was, I think it was just small lines like that. Of course GS isn't about love, but its always fun to think about those things ^^;
But thinking about it, maybe they intended GaretxJenna (or maybe they didn't intend anything at all xD; ). As for MiaxAlex, I think it was in the second game when Alex expressed concerned for Mia, even after being on the bad guy's side.

Paladin's Heart - July 8, 2006 04:23 PM (GMT)
*sigh... And I thought we had some more Golden Sun fans >_<
Anyways, Only the first one? Wow, you're the first person I know who's played the First one first. Everyone else played ONLY the second one. But anyways, back on topic, The Fusion Dragon right? With Menardi and Saturos? Yeah, but I think the Doom Dragon was harder, though.
I can't remember, but did the Fusion Dragon have 2 heads?
TidusBlankety - July 8, 2006 07:57 PM (GMT)
its been so long...i think it only had one head...cause i remeber my friend was playing and whining about it not dieing.
Onigiri - July 8, 2006 08:45 PM (GMT)
I remember finding the first boss so hard! ><~ But the second one wasn't so bad. Maybe I just wasn't prepared enough. heheh.
Paladin's Heart - July 20, 2006 11:18 PM (GMT)
-revives-
The boss from the first one I had no problem with, it was the second one I complained. Too many heads >_<. I can remember I just kept on using Djinn and summons, but it took me so long to fight it. I kept on switching from Jenna to Piers because he had that one Djinn that healed everyone.
Stupid Wise One, that big rock just HAD to be a Three Headed Dragon, hmm?
