Title: Newtype Usa January Issue
Description: *Squee!*

Seii Monogatari - December 24, 2004 01:59 AM (GMT)
Although I'm well aware that this could simply be the magazine's perception, it kicks the crud out of "main squeeze," "lady friend" and "love international." I trust Newtype USA more than most American Gaming Magazines, because it is the United States counterpart of Newtype Japan. Allow me to type up the article...

QUOTE
Fanboys and girls have been slavering in anticipation of Tetsuya Nomura's CG movie sequel to the classic PlayStation game.  The "Special Edition" (an extended 25-minute trailer) shown at the festival doesn't exactly make a lot of narrative sense, but here's what we do know: A disease called Geostigma has infected many of Midgar's orphaned children, including Denzel, and he's tended to by Marlene, another orphan who's friends with Tifa.  Meanwhile, Cloud, the still-sullen protagonist who nows runs a delivery service, remains guilt-ridden over lost-love Aeris.  But don't worry -- Cloud still sees plenty of action thanks to three silver-haired antagonists led by Kadaj who are after a mysterious item called Mother and are rounding up orphans for an uprising of sorts.
Square Enix's CG finesse is unparalleled.  Advent Children is visually stunning, from the stylish characters to its lavishly renedered environments.  Action scenes are exquisitely executed, though at times the editing is so quick that there's barely enough time to fully appreciate the work that went into it.  The Special Edition finishes the city under attack from a massive summon (if you thought they looked impressive in the games, just wait till you see this!), during which many of the game's cast members make a brief but rousing appearance.  The short ends with a face-off between Cloud and his archnemesis Sephiroth.  Talk about a nail-biting teaser!

OMG!!! I know it doesn't really mean anything, but I still find myself cheering!! Newtype is never going to lose this subscriber!! :D :D :D

Anastar - December 24, 2004 02:08 AM (GMT)
Awesome, Seii! That's great to see! Thanks for sharing it with us! :D

And no, it doesn't mean anything for certain, but it's still great to hear!

And I love your new sig, too! :D

Seii Monogatari - December 24, 2004 02:15 AM (GMT)
Thanks, Aly!! And Newtype is one of the most prominent anime magazines, both here and in Japan!! *hopes* Now I'm all happy, su!! :D

Anastar - December 24, 2004 02:29 AM (GMT)
All the Japanese magazines have portrayed it that way from the beginning. There were many references to Cloud's grief for Aerith and so forth before Tifa, Vincent, Marlene, and the Turks were announced as characters. Then, we had the Japanese magazine this past summer saying that it was Cloud's dream to meet Aerith.

So this is consistent with what other Japanese magazines have been saying all along. I haven't heard a single Japanese magazine suggest that Cloud has been living with Tifa. Dengeki even said that Cloud and Tifa never got together after the fighting.

Good find, Seii! :D

FF_Goddess - December 24, 2004 04:05 AM (GMT)
WOOOOOOOO!!!!! You rock, Seii!!!! B) Great find! :D

Yep! NOTHING we have heard from the Japanese magazines has said anything about Cloud living with Tifa. In fact, we have gotten lots of pro-ClAeris info from them. And, considering everything we have heard from them about AC so far has been correct........ ^_^ Hee!

Sefie - December 24, 2004 06:30 AM (GMT)
Awwww! How nice! And I ADORE your new sig!

Aerith - December 24, 2004 10:53 AM (GMT)
Lost-Love..Uhhh XD

Velvy - December 24, 2004 11:22 AM (GMT)
CUTE! XD Hey Anastar, maybe you should have a section of your site developed to little quirks and stuff. There was that Final Fantasy G4 thing where Cloud + Aeris received Top Hero + Heroine titles and Aeris was referred to as Cloud's girlfriend, and the Nobuo Uematsu cd (was it Nobuo?) with Cloud and Aeris on the cd cover! I like neat little things like that, even though they don't count as evidence, it's just cute to note.

Seii Monogatari - December 24, 2004 08:06 PM (GMT)
Awesome Velvy!! Top Hero + Heroine, aye!? :D

Everytime I see something like that it gets me cheering! And the Clotis can't say it was a "bias" fan-translated page, because Newtype carefully translates everything for accuracy. Man, I love that magazine!! And thank you Sefie, I had another sig-making frenzie!! :D

Kaldea - December 24, 2004 08:29 PM (GMT)
Cute! I love these little references!

Especially when EGM called Tifa Cloud's main squeeze in one magazine and then said the next month changed it so that she was just Cloud's "lady friend" after getting more info from Square.

Real_Emotion - December 25, 2004 12:05 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the info, Seii! I love your new sig, were you watching 'Princess Diaries'?

Puts a smile to my face whenever I see a Cloud and Aeris reference. I hope there is more to come. As well as some new Aeris or Cloud&Aeris related AC news coming soon.

AeRîŠ_š†rIƒE - December 25, 2004 04:00 AM (GMT)
damn, i wasnt subscribed to newtype yet when that paragraph was there!!! oh nooo!!! no cloti fans, its not proof at all, Newtype is nothing....

Clorith - December 25, 2004 07:56 AM (GMT)
Aww, that was a nice read! Yup, like I always say, EGM is just good for a laugh, don't base your theories off it. Even their writing style is different! The Japanese mags go on about the "pure white world" and "full moon hanging on the horizon", while EGM does stuff like saying Kadaj is Sephiroth.

I have been meaning to ask you this, Clorith: Which magazines do you consider reliable and accurate? Dengeki? Famitsu? Don't these two get their information direct from Square? What about other magazines? What about American magazines?

Clorith - December 26, 2004 06:47 PM (GMT)
Aiyee, don't treat what I say as gospel truth.

I think Japanese magazines in general are pretty trustworthy, especially since they write the articles in the same language as what they hear. The English magazines tend to be a little off, maybe due to translation problems or general lack of effort put in by the person writing it. Basically I say trust the interviews and trust Japanese magazine write-ups, provided there isn't an excessive use of question marks. ;)

Oh and judging from track record, EGM is a no-no. Some of the things they say are plain ridiculous and I'll never forget that they jumped to the conclusion that Kadaj was Sephiroth.

LOL, I just wanted your opinion.

Okay, I gotcha... EGM sucks. :P

Clorith - December 27, 2004 04:14 AM (GMT)
LOL!!

Well they don't really suck, they just should stick to writing jokes. Like their "Rest of the Crap" column. :P

Tifa Lockheart - December 27, 2004 08:23 AM (GMT)
Lost-love Aerith, eh?

Well they'd better be telling the truth otherwise we can sue for libel. j/k
False publicity can never be forgiven. B)

And a CloTi will go (-3-) when reading this.. aah how I'll love to see their reactions .
haha but thanks for posting this. the day's become =)

Seii Monogatari - December 28, 2004 09:40 AM (GMT)
Yeah yeah, Princess Bride all da way!! I love that movie, and when I was watching it, all of a sudden I realized how much that quote applied to Cloud x Aeris, so ... :D There are a few movie quotes that do, actually ...

But Kadaj is Sephiroth, really and truly!! It's a *twist ending* you see ...

[off topic]
I'm posting from my big sis's computer, and she found the Square site with the trailers on it, and downloaded 'em, and I finally got to see them!! It was magical!! Tifa looks really purdy ... *pouts* Oh well, Aeris is pretty too, what I can see of her at least ... ;)
[end off topic rant/]

Cloudsgirl - December 28, 2004 06:42 PM (GMT)
YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!! Every knows he loved her!!!!

Seii Monogatari - December 31, 2004 04:41 AM (GMT)
Back to what Velvy said about odd quirks that don't mean anything but are interesting, I remember "PLAY" magazine came out with a "Girls of Gaming" special issue a several monthes ago. Tifa was the only VII girl featured in the magazine. No Aeris. No Yuffie. No VIII girls. No IX girls. No X girls. There were X-2 girls, which fit with the skimpy outfit trend the magazine seemed to center around. I don't remember seeing a single woman in an outfit that wouldn't allow her free access to a strip lounge. On the page, it mentioned nothing about her being the main female of Final Fantasy VII. It mentioned nothing about her and Cloud's "love." Nothing at all. Funny, huh?

Lady Jade - December 31, 2004 04:49 AM (GMT)
That quote is just... warming. I love it.

Oh I saw that. It was Filter's Best of Final Fantasy Episode. After they showed that Sephy won best Villian, the hosstess said and I quote.

QUOTE
Mean old Sephiroth. He killed Cloud's girlfriend right before they were going to make out.

Kinda funny. Though the make out thing wasn't true. But at least they said Aeris was Cloud's girfriend. :)

Also the same show had a Valentines Day kind of episode and they talked about romance in games and they showed the scene where Cloud had Aeris sink into the water.

And after reading the article Anastar showed us. I just have to say... (with the exception of EGM) even the media knows the truth! :D  :D
