As I'm sure all of you know (and many are sick of) by now, Square-Enix created a tech demo showing the opening of Final Fantasy VII remade to show off the powers of the PS3. Ever since then, rumours of a remake for the console have been flying around pretty much everywhere. The June 06' Edition of EGM magazine even says in one of it's articles: "Last year, Square Enix teased everyone with what was called the "FFVII PS3 demo," the article states. "Well, what do you know? This test case was really a sneak peek at a next-gen revival of the PS1 role-playing hit."

IGN, however, went straight to Square-Enix to find out if this was true. Their article states:

"Since the FINAL FANTASY VII tech demo at E3 2005, there have been a lot of rumors about the presentation hinting at an actual remake. While the June 2006 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly confirms the remake for release in 2007, Square Enix has never stated this."

So there you have it, straight from Square-Enix, there is NO remake planned for the PS3. Don't listen to EGM. They lie.

Ok I didn't know if you all knew but I went snooping around because of my hearing of Final fantasy VII International! AS YOU HAVE READ NO REMAKE

Also I found out that FFVII Internation was basicly :

The American version of Final Fantasy VII featured several improvements over the Japanese version: additional FMV of the Weapons, tightened mini-game control, "arrows" for the screens, an enhanced Materia management system, and an added cut-scene that helped clarify Cloud's past. Square, ever the entrepeneur, released the American version (in Japanese, of course) in Japan as "Final Fantasy VII International." In addition to the changes in the American version, it offers a fourth disc with information, maps, character sketches, and general trivia about Final Fantasy VII. There are currently no plans to bring the contents of the fourth disc to the U.S.. Quoted from RPGamer

There you have it folks, also if this has already basicly been posted then please forgive for I didn't know Arigato and Cleris for all (LOL) :cleris:

I'm "officialy" losing my mind. Why don't they make up there minds. It would be nice if they say yes or no,all they stated was "we never stated this".Thats just like saying maybe, maybe not.

Sorry for the ramble,it just really bothers me.

Tenshi_Aerith - June 10, 2006 06:24 PM (GMT)
OH! No Problem it annoys me too! Watch now that I've posted this SE will say "LETS MAKE A FFVII REMAKE!!!!" And I'll be like "Oh my god! I did all that searching and found you guys weren't and you just decide out of the blue! ARGH!HHH!!!" LOL

MistaCloudStrife - June 10, 2006 07:17 PM (GMT)
The person who stated that is retarded...(pardon my French)

Read the quote carefully...

It says "Square Enix has never stated this." Nowhere in there does SquareEnix DENY an FFVII Remake... They just said they've never stated that there was going to be one.

People need to learn not to distort the information given to them...

Tenshi_Aerith - June 11, 2006 06:57 PM (GMT)
Hai, I miss read the line...But I remember Nomura telling somthing of having to many projects so I guess were still stuck waiting -.-'

EnglishRose - June 12, 2006 05:55 PM (GMT)
I think that some people from EGM also said that they never got the storyline of Advent Children. I never trusted their word in the first place about a PS3 remake. Unless I get an interview where they can honestly say that they got it direct from Nojima's or Nomura's or Kitase's mouth, then I don't go for it. <_<

Shame though. I would've liked it a new remake. ^_^

Tenshi_Aerith - June 12, 2006 11:27 PM (GMT)
I would definately buy it, I wouldn't dare ask my dad to burn it I would spend as much as it took if there was a remake

Angel07 - August 20, 2007 01:31 AM (GMT)
I`m going out of my MIND! When I first heard about the remake I was 'yea, man hopefully this true' but this sucks I want that remake

Okay, so there might be one then....

Here's hoping for someone(not myself).....

But, I honestly don't think many people would buy it, I asked many of my FFVII friends, and they said their loyalty lies with the original, as does mine.

*gets pelted with stones*

NekoDono - August 20, 2007 06:31 PM (GMT)
Please, Square-Enix, no remake. I am tired of FFVII. I'm starting to hate it because of how much crap there is. AC, DoC, BC, CC, the novelas, and such. If you remake VII I think I'm ditching SE for good knowing you are nothing but money grubbing fools who bend to the will of pushy fans who still can't get enough those polygons.

KeKe - August 20, 2007 07:54 PM (GMT)
Preach it, Neko.

I won't be able to buy it, since I could never afford a PS3, but even if I could, I don't know if I'd purchase it. I don't trust SE anymore. If they change ONE scene from the original game, I'm pretty much done.

Of course, looking back on Last Order, Crisis Core, etc, I don't have much confidence that my precious scenes will remain intact. <_<

AerithWay - August 21, 2007 06:05 PM (GMT)
Square Enix never actually said there was NEVER going to be a re-make.
All they have said is that they currently arn't planning making one.
Sooooo They might. o_o
I guess. xD
A friend of mine said they said if they knew people were going to buy it, then they'd make it. :/
I would love a re-make as I've never had the chance to play FFVII, and it's really expensive now because it's a collector's item or something :o

Yeah I know how everyone feels about this. But your friends have already played the game.(At least that's what I got from what you typed) I remember there being a thread about who has or hasn't played FFVII and there have actually been quite a few people who haven't, so imo it wouldn't just be beneficial for S-E, but for those who haven't had a chance to play Final Fantasy games that were pre-PS2.

I think the biggest problem why people wouldn't want a new FFVII is that the storyline would be changed in a such a way that the balance of the LTD or other parts of the story would be disrupted to the point of changing FFVII into something it wasn't before.

Of course I wouldn't want this either, but I'm still keeping an open mind.

I actually wouldn't mind the proportions actually being correct on the characters in and out of the world map. Think Cloud and Aeris sitting on top the church talking where Cloud wasn't half the size of the church. Think of the train graveyard actually being as big as in DoC.

I think if they can pull it off, it would/could be just as amazing as when the original came out.

aerithlove527 - August 24, 2007 08:04 AM (GMT)
I'm curious about all amazing graphics of FF7 remake though still hate to have anything changed in original game, it's a contradictory feeling for many fans I guess. If that does happen, of course I'll buy it nmw, it might be another 5 or 10 years but my fav for this game wouldn't changed a bit, I'll take it as a piece of collection~Hope I can afford one then
Anyway, I too keep an open mind for this rumor, since SE always surprise us in many ways.

The opening of FF Dissidia:
"Fantasy Is Endless...
Fantasy Has No Limit Form"

I would love to have a remake but I've had it with all the sequels and the like. Yes, its nice to see the characters again, but isn't it about time to focus on new FF games? Making FFVII an incomplete game makes it unique. If they did make a remake, then there's nothing that I can do.

Kuki Prower - September 8, 2007 12:10 PM (GMT)
THANK GOD. While SE never said that would never remake VII, I am truly happy. I'm so sick and tired of FFVII being milked to the point of killing off the game and its characters, not to mention how overrated the game is.

And for people who haven't played VII, there's eBay you can get it off. I also tend to see VII under Pre-owned games in my local GameStation store.

Kaldea - September 8, 2007 11:01 PM (GMT)
If they were going to remake it, it would be a whole new game with a whole new gameplay experience. I don't see how "loyalty" comes into play when the simple fact is that we play games to have fun. If it's going to be fun, why the hate? A remake would only improve on the original gameplay. Same story, sure, but who cares as long as it's fun?

I think people are losing sight on the basic simplicity of video games.

Some people want the remake, some people don't. If you don't want it, just ignore it and let those who want it enjoy it. I just can't stand it when people think it's being overdone with all the FFVII games coming out when people obviously want more insight into the FFVII universe. I think of every new game as a new chapter. No one was bitching about OMFG DERE WERE SO MANY HARRY POTTER BOOKS. Leave the FFVII games alone for those who want more added to the story.

Hyper-Ballad - September 9, 2007 05:05 AM (GMT)
Kaldea, I think why people are kicking up more of a storm over this than the number of HP books is because J. K. Rowling signed a contract for seven books and wrote even the earliest ones with this end in sight. So she always intended it to be an ongoing series and in contrast, FFVII was only ever meant to be a one-shot game. Everything you needed was contained in the original game, and you didn't need progression, closure, or all your questions answered - things were up to your interpretation. A lot of players felt they didn't need the Compilation to begin with in order to appreciate the game and its characters more, and I think this is just an extension of that reaction. While there's bound to be new gameplay and graphics and fun stuff, I think people are also worried about more retcons.

I think it's not so much bitching as being wary about things. There was a lot of good stuff in the Compilation, but there was a lot of really needless stuff as well. And FFVII means a lot to people in a really personal way, so that's why they worry about stuff like overexposure and draining the game of its mystery.

I think their opinion heads off in the opposite direction of yours - that all the extra games are taking away from what made the original fun rather than adding to it. But I think that's pretty subjective.

I'm actually pretty ambivalent about the whole thing, to be honest. I'd rather see a straight remake than another addition to the Compilation, that's for sure. But on the other hand, there are so many details, complications and uninteresting OCs who bog down the Compilation to the exent that I really think that SE has lost control of the storyline, and I wouldn't like to see FFVII's plot hacked to fit in all these later twists. But like you said, it'd be a fun experience and a great tribute too, and that's very important too. A remake would have a lot of good things and a lot of bad things about it in theory, but I think it'd be down to the game itself to tip the balance, should it be released.

Kaldea - September 9, 2007 05:38 AM (GMT)
I hope you aren't feeling offended over my point of view, HB. I just feel that I need to present my side of things. ^_^

Anyway, all of that still involves thinking of FFVII as more than a simply a game. And I only used HP books as one example. I didn't mean for it to be so technical.

I still stand by what my previous post said. FFVII is just a game like every other. It may mean more to people than other games, but it is still just that. Some fans want more and that seems to be what the company wants too. I don't think people really think about it from the company's point of view other than for $$$. I'm sure they want the universe to be expanded too. The creators are just as tied to these characters as some of the most die hard gamer fans are, and continuing a story like what they have been allows their characters to breathe again, and even allow new people to gain interest in the original. They never meant for these new games to take away importance from the original. They are supposed to compliment them.

Personally, if there was such outrage over games with FFVII characters in them, I would have guessed it would be over KH since FF characters in those games are fan service. But that's just my opinion.

If people are too wary of these new games, don't play them. Stick with the original. It's just that simple. How all these new games are being thought of is indeed subjective, which means that just like everyone who doesn't support the new games has their own opinion, so do those people who welcome the expansion of the FFVII universe. Until I see something terribly wrong with the new games, including the ones that haven't even seen the light of day yet, I will defend them.

And I hope I'm not the only one who thinks it's a bit of a contradiction to not support the new games at all, but still use the new pretty screens and art for themselves.

Oh no! Nononono! You didn't offend me at all! I'm sorry if I came off that way. :huggle:

I really do see both sides of this argument and I'm on the fence at the moment, but I just thought I'd explain where I think the people who don't want to see a remake are coming from, that's all. ^_^

I guess the tricky thing about FFVII is that it's both very personal to players (and very likely the creators too) but also very much up to interpretation, so obviously not everyone's going to be pleased. What might be sacrilege to one player another player might see as confirmation of what they always knew was true. So to some players, a remake would definitely be a compliment but I think others take a "you-can't-improve-on-perfection" view, and think it might cheapen it.

And I guess the thing is, a lot of diehard players couldn't really ignore it, because it becomes a part of canon. For example, if there was some retcon that affected the LTD then it'd keep coming up in debates after and would be processed as evidence and used or debunked by both sides...so even if you don't play the game, if you're a part of the fandom, you can't really ignore it either. >_<

But I think you can't really argue about the merits and flaws of a game that doesn't exist yet though.

But keep replying and don't feel like you're offending me - like I said before, I understand this perspective but it's not dear to my heart, if you know what I mean, so you don't have to walk on eggshells if you want to debate this a bit. Go for it.

Yeah, I agree with this. ^_^

Resha - September 9, 2007 08:59 AM (GMT)
Well, I'm just sure for one thing. SE can't change any scenes now since the compilation is tied into the main game FFVII. Touching some sensitive scenes like Cloud's reaction over Aerith's death or the conversation between Cloud and Tifa under the Highwind would mean they would have to do some revamping on the other FFVII series, mainly AC. And I'm positive that they would be careful enough and wouldn't attempt to do so. SE has more things to take matter of than just putting FFVII in a higher level of graphics--sure, fans would love it but they could also get tired of just doing FFVII, they have Kingdom Hearts and other series to work on as well. Personally, FFVII is not really circling on it's graphics or on it's platforms, but it's relevance to the players, and FFVII PS1 version has done so.

Kuki Prower - September 9, 2007 10:48 AM (GMT)
I pretty much agree with a lot of the facts that Kaldea and HB have stated. The reason I'm so iffy about a remake is because of all the new character developments, new plots and other things is that the plot will definitely have some changes in it if the game is remade. I'm all up for the remake with a better battle system, lovely graphics and game play. Though I'm left in despair wondering how the plot will turn out, even though it will be generally the same but with these extra add ons.

I agree, it would be nice to get more games/projects being announced by SE rather than more VII spin-offs.

Tacofoolio - September 12, 2007 08:03 PM (GMT)
If FF7 was remade with pretty graphics, I would be thrilled, and totally get it. But if they made serious changes to the plot or important scenes, then I'd be pissed off. For me, the story of games is the most important thing, I often just watch the games being played, so if the plot sucks or there is none, it effects me a great deal. But to have the same story and characters and everything of the old FF7 with pretty graphics would be awesome. I wouldn't mind a few new places, as long as it didn't take away from what was already there too.

Kuki Prower - September 12, 2007 08:09 PM (GMT)
I think SE know that remaking VII is a BIG risk. While it certainly would make a lot of money, since it is the most popular FF game in the English speaking community they know that they will be a big backlash if it did not please them. That would result in perhaps lower profits on future projects and fans.

I wouldn't be surprised if Noruma was on the interwebz one day and came across the dreaded FFVII Fanboys who will rip apart anyone who dares to speak one bad word of VII. Scar the poor guys for life and he will swear that he'll never have anything to do with the game ever again xD
