Title: Computer Viruses And Spyware

Carmen - May 25, 2006 02:18 PM (GMT)
Umm okay. A few days ago at home my computer has been recieving many pop-ups that my computer has spyware. Well, Im not exactly sure if its true but it sounds like it. I installed a pop-up blocker, but everytime I open the internet these hentai pop-ups come out of nowhere.

Then I went to my Anti-virus program I have called AVG (dont know what it stands for). I scanned my whole computer and all hard drives and saw that I had a virus. Not just and virus, but the TROJAN virus.

The next thing I know, porno sites and dating chatlines automatically download on my computer. And then it takes a while to get rid of those too!!!! (My brother must have been using the computer <_< )

The Trojan Virus infected my enitre pc so I can get on the internet. And then it brought PARASITES onto my computer. And its like if I leave the computer on for a least 5 min., pop-ups come up again!!!!!!

One time I tried to send an email to my friend, which I think had a parasite in it, and it infected her computer when she recieve the notice. Now she cant get rid of them either.

I really need to know how to get rid of this virus IF there is a way. I cant go through the process if rebooting my pc and starting over. Then I'll lose track of all the data that I have.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

That's awful to hear, Carmen. :( Viruses are so darn annoying.

I'm not too sure how to handle it, but when you scanned it with AVG, did you attempt to fix it through there? There should be an option for you to fix / delete the affected files through AVG , or any other virus detection software you have on your computer.

Well, AVG wouldn't let me have the option of "restoring" the virus, which is a way to delete it. I guess the Trojan Virus realy cant be deleted.

The only options I had were to at least lock the virus in the Virus Vault, let it go, or store it in a folder. I really didnt know what to do except lock the Trojan Virus in the Virus vault to keep it from harming the desktop. But as for the internet....:ermm: Its hopeless....

Lynn - May 25, 2006 02:42 PM (GMT)
Do you have a name for the virus? If so, Google it and read through any forums that pop up in the search results for ways to fix it.

IF you need to reformat your computer, one way to avoid losing data is if you have two separate drives. I usually keep all my important stuff in the D drive, so if I end up having to reformat the C drive to clean the computer up, nothing from D drive is lost.

Well, I went to this link: AIM.com Viruses/Trojans

And what they are basically telling me is that I have to have some kind of program thats going to help delete the virus. Like Norton Anti-Virus. But the thing is, the computer is so messed up that it wont let me download or install anything else.

And the virus is called the Trojan Horse Virus. That should be easy to tell you where this kind of Virus came from.

Hmm, I once had a Trojan virus on my old computer, but I used Norton Antivirus, which immediately detected it after it started acting up, and automatically deleted it from my computer.

I had AVG once too, but I don't remember how to get rid of viruses with that.

I did a search and maybe you'll find something useful in these links? :)

Most advice seems to point towards turning off system restore, rebooting your computer in Safe Mode and running AVG from there. Try reading some and see if any of them applies to your situation. If all fails, I think you'll have to format your computer. Hopefully it doesn't have to resort to that! Good luck! :huggle:

WOW! :o That link is very helpful. Well, at lea now I know what to do. But I still dont think AVG will get rid off the virus completely. Just like I read from the link, thre will probably still be some parasties hiding from the protection program. (I got to tell my mother about)

I wish I had Norton Anti-Virus. Thank You yin-chan and Lynn!!! :huggle: This is VERY helpful :gift:

Good luck with the clean-up, Carmen. ^_^ There are usually left-overs of the virus afterwards, but read the other links for instructions on how to clean them up.

And after all that, smack your brother a couple of times for being an idiot.

Again, in times like these, separate drives are a godsend. Since reformatting is limited to each drive, it's a simple way to keep your stuff safely intact if you ever need to reformat your computer.

Here's a very good online scanner. It takes quite a while though.

A good thing to use to keep your PC clean is this:

http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/

I use it all the time and it's proved better than Norton Antivirus for me. I spent £27 on Norton and this free program is better, what a waste. It was back in Januray when I had msjcf.exe on my computer (one of the nastiest things ever) and adaware got rid of most it.

Another program helpful for clearing things that could possibly lead to spyware/trojan entirs is this:

http://www.ccleaner.com/

Very quick and a small file.

Of course, these will only help if you get your downloading back.

Im trying to try all of this, but my mother is installing Spyware. She thinks its going to get rid of the viruses. But its actually making it worse. And she wont let me download or install Norton Anti-Virus.

Now the Trojan Virus is running crazy on my computer :scream:!!!!!!!

Scott - June 2, 2006 04:07 PM (GMT)
This only works if you use Windows so I hope you do :P

Go to Start > Run > type "msconfig" > and go to the "Startup" tab.

Once here, there will be lots of ticked boxes. Check EVERYTHING on it with this site:

http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

If the trojan starts at startup, hopefully you can stop that from here. That site will tell you what is dangerous, what is useless and what is needed to be ticked.

Ack. Now that's a problem. I spent YEARS drilling that precaution into my father's head before letting him roam the Internet on his own. >_<

To Carmen's mother: Please, please, please don't believe those pop-up ads that promise to scan your computer for free! Listen to US -- or at the very least, listen to suggestions from forums -- as we've got all the recommendations you need!

When I showed her your comment, she then decided to stop installing spyware. I told her to read this thread and she REALLY went for the advice . (Not to mention this forum proved to her that it wasn't a chat site like she thought it was :P)

Well again, thank you everyone. The progress is going great and my pc's running a bit better. Although I still get pop-ups. I think those can be blocked by pop-up blockers. And then I noticed some words highlighted in green. And when I clicked on those words, they were linked to download and pornography sites. And I found that VERY weird.

Scott - June 5, 2006 03:40 PM (GMT)
The green words will be search engines, kinda like Google without entering a word. It picks a random word and shows you the results by clicking on it. They install themselves through pop-ups, they're bloody annoying. Although you should be able to get rid of this from "Add and remove programs" from the control panel. If not, then I recommend adaware as previously stated.

Oh so thats what those are? :o I hate those. Most of them are the "sexual type of words". One time I saw Cloud x Aerith highlighted and I clicked on it. And it lead to a search engine with some wierd results.

Guess what? I was checking out the files that had caused the virus and along with the pornography my stupid little brother downloaded on my computer, I also found that the Tekken wallpapers I download had a virus detected on one of them. I didnt think that would happen :ermm: (I couldn't help it. I love Tekken!)

Depends where you downloaded them from ;)

It'd be handy to get some kind of antivirus if you do a lot of downloading so stuff like this doesn't happen in the future. Even if it's not an auto protect antivirus, you could still run it once a week. You could try AVG, or again adaware. Both are free and fairly good, but I don't *think* they're autoprotect, although AVG might be.

I got the wallpapers from Tekken Zaibatsu.com. I dont know how there's viruses floating around on their files but.....

I have AVG but its kind of slow. Really all it does is scan the files and the computer for viruses but never deletes them. The only thing I knew how to do was to keep them in what AVG has called a virus vault, to keep them from REALLY going lose.

Alright, starting to run out of ideas then. Last thing that's download that I can think of is 'http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html'. This is SpyBot Search and Destroy. I haven't tried this one personally (never needed to) but a lot of people recommended me it when I was having problems.

You're running out of ideas? :o Uh oh.

Well, if its a program I have to download, my mother wont let me do it becuase of teh risks of slowing down the computer and bring more viruses or pop-ups to the computer. Just like the time when my mother installed spyware THINKING it would get rid of the viruses when it actually mad it worse.

I really appreciate the advice Scott :huggle: :gift:. My computer is running better and everything has been cleared, with the exception of those search engines and pop-ups, but I think I'll just leave it at that.

Scott - June 7, 2006 04:24 PM (GMT)
Well, if you can't download anything, lets try an antivirus which doesn't require downloading ;)

*deleted link cuz it just ain't working*

Go to "www.pandasoftware.com/activescan".

Click on Scan Your PC, that doesn't require downloading.

The only problem with it is system requirements but you SHOULD be fine.

I hope this helps.
