Title: Final Fantasy XIII
Description: For the PS3.
Lucas_FFXI - May 9, 2006 02:04 AM (GMT)
I check out the IGN website today and they announce a Final Fantasy XIII for the PS3. The game looks really cool, and they're going to make sequals of it too! I'm looking forward to it. :D
Real_Emotion - May 9, 2006 02:33 AM (GMT)
Linkage!!!This is very exciting news. And apparently, the same team who did FFX will be doing this. The pictures look awesome! They're the in-game graphics, right? Sweet! And by the looks of it, Nomura has returned as well! Which I think is great since I would rather he focus on new FF titles than adding more to the FFVII universe. :)
C-strife - May 9, 2006 04:21 AM (GMT)
Trailer is out!! :D
http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2649This game looks incredible!(those some sexy graphics!) I'm so happy that it is featuring a female protagonist. B)

Mwaha, so the mystery of Nomura's next project is finally solved!
Haven't watched the trailer yet, but this part from RE's link had me chortlng:

| This game is part of the three-part saga, Fabula Nova Crystallis FF XIII, which also includes a cellphone prequel RPG and another PS3 title called FF Versus XIII, an action game by the makers of Kingdom Hearts. |
Huh. I guess SE's too good for normal, one-part, one-platform RPGs anymore.
And ANOTHER cellphone game?! And unlike BC, which is pure retcon crack, this game is being involved in the overall story from the beginning!
The third game (FF Versus XIII), which Nomura is involved in, has me rather dubious, though. I'm getting more FF/KH vibes.

Edit : Oh, oops, I didn't notice there was another thread for FF13 in the SE section. Sorry mods, I looked in Final Fantasy and didn't find any topic there so I just posted this one. Only now do I notice the other thread. >_<
......Well, shiatz.
LOL, no mod is online now so if one of ye good peoples come along later, please feel free to merge this thread with the other!! <33 Sorry again!

Well E3 is pretty much on the run, (I think?) and SE has released a trailer for Final Fantasy 13!
You can view it here :
http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?fs=1&id=2649Motomu Toriyama, who directed Final Fantasy X-2, will serve as director for the Final Fantasy XIII game. The storyline for the game, according to Square Enix President Yoichi Wada, will focus on
"those who resist the world." The producer is Yoshinori Kitase; character designer is Tetsuya Nomura, art director is Isamu Kamikokuryo, main theme designer is Nobuo Uematsu and composer is Masashi Hamauzu. The theme of the game is
"A tale of souls from a futuristic civilzation illuminated by the Light of the Crystal".Screenshots:

Fabula Nova Crystallis FF XIII,
http://www.the-magicbox.com/0605/img01_fabula.jpgand will be a three part saga. The first part will be a prequel as a cellphone RPG, named
Final Fantasy XIII Agito, the game will be a multiplayer title.
http://www.the-magicbox.com/0605/ff13agitologo.jpghttp://www.the-magicbox.com/0605/img01_agito.jpgThis game is directed by Hajime Tabata (Before Crisis: FFVII), and produced by Kousei Ito (Before Crisis, FFVII).
Then
Final Fantasy XIII, and then
Final Fantasy Versus XIII as a sequel action game, which Nomura and the Kingdom Hearts team will be working on. Stating that the Latin word "versus" means "to change direction," Square Enix says that the game be handled by the team responsible for creating Kingdom Hearts, and will feature "extreme action elements." It is apparently a wholly independent story unfolding a different world with different characters. This title will appear alongside Final Fantasy XIII on PS3. When coupled with FFXIII, FF Versus XIII completes the core of the FABULA NOVA CRYSTALLIS project.
This game will be produced by Shinji Hashimoto, director and character designer is Tetsuya Nomura; movie director is Takeshi Nozue (FFIX, FFX, FFVIIAC, KH), and composer is Yoko Shimomura (Legend of Mana, Parasite Eve, Kingdom Hearts).
The description of the game is "Harmony is realized in this alternative tale of Final Fantasy XIII".

IGN.com,
FFX-II.net,
Magicbox.comWhat do you guys think?? The trailer looks nifty, I wonder if this time the lead character is going be a female?? I don't know for sure what I feel about all this -- FF13 looks fantastic, but I'm more a fan of the conventional old-school FF heroes - the Cloud and Squall era. I liked my female heroines cheerful and intriguing, so I'm not too sure how keen I will be on this new sort of lead if this broody looking female indeed does turn out to be the main character.
Her design reminds me of Elly from Xenogears and a bit of Suikoden's Chris, I don't know why - I just got that impression of femme strength from it. She looks pretty cool though, but not really my cup of tea. It's like Yuna+Lara Croft, but more toned-down with better colour combinations. XD I think her facial features look kinda like Cloud!!!
Most of all, the whole high-tech, futuristic world kinda bums me out a bit... >_< I'm beginning to doubt if we'll even have chocobos in this one.
And that weapon just
screams Gunblade!!! Goodness!!! I wonder if it's got anything to do with the FF8 world!!

Wow, thanks for the links ^_^
Mmmm... I donīt know what to think about all of this. Yeah, the graphics are really awesome and all, but I definitely can see a little of Matrix in this -__-š... I think I rather wait for how it will go in the future ^^
And more images (from FF versus XIII):

Wow... that girl looks like a cross between X-2 Yuna and XII's Ashe. o.0;
So that's the project Nomura was talking about in the interviews, eh?
And PS3? UGH...
BTW, I love XIII's logos. Quite pretty.

...ugh...I'm really starting to get tired of the look-alikes. I was hoping the lead female in FFXIII would have a completley new and fresh look to her...and what's up with the world of FFXIII?
I want mah flying boats, chocobos, and castles back! *calms down*
It looks too futuristic for my taste. It screams Star Wars and The Matrix...
I just hope that at least the storyline will be interesting.
Andina - May 9, 2006 06:41 PM (GMT)
Very interesting and impressive. It looks great, that's a fact. And what I really love about FFXIII is that we finally get another female lead character as we haven't had one since Terra.
And look! She is actually wearing clothes and not something that reveals 90% of her skin. Very good.
I do not even have FFXII yet but I am already eagerly waiting for this one.
The little we saw about the world reminds me very much about FFVII, sort of steampunk kind of atmosphere. The leading lady also reminds me of Cloud. Let's hope she is as messed up and fascinating as he was in the game. :D

Futuristic style FF again... I guess it just goes to show that Nomura-san cannot do traditional "fantasy-looking" FFs (FFVII, FFVIII, FFX, FFX-2 all had futuristic themes in them and all done by Nomura). As usual, I didn't expect his design to be all that original. The girl looks like a cross between Yuna, Ashe and Cloud. Though the guy in FFvsXIII looks cool... blue hair and red eyes! :fangirl:. Wikipedia says that his name's "Natch".
I don't mind my main FF girls tough, but I don't want her THAT tough! XD
As for the logos, they're all beautiful! I'd expect that from Amano (it is Amano's design, right?). They just keep getting better and better.
EDIT: Just watched the trailer. Is it just me or do the bad guys look like Storm Troopers a la Star Wars? :ermm: And holy crap! She really DOES remind me of Cloud when she kinda squints during the end of the trailer... kinda makes me wish she was a man instead. :P
Sephiroth's_girl - May 9, 2006 11:22 PM (GMT)

I caught the trailer on Youtube, it's gonna be good. This is looking to be the main character, a woman. I think Terra was the last original female lead.
Oddishness - May 10, 2006 12:01 AM (GMT)
Love the fact that she's wearing clothes and doesn't look like a Barbie Doll. :)
If there is no White Mage in this game, however, I WILL cry.
Her facial expressions reminded me of Riku....
Kaldea - May 10, 2006 12:18 AM (GMT)
Well if you count FFX-2, Yuna was the last. But I'd rather not because...ick.
Anyway, did they announce the woman's name yet? And is it just my screen or does her hair look like a shade of pink?
goddess_in_pink07 - May 10, 2006 12:36 AM (GMT)
That looks sooo freakin awsome! :D Now theirs a girl who knows how to kick ass! :D That chick looks extremely awsome, and he pinkish redish colored cape type thing is awsome!! :D
Kusari Yarou - May 10, 2006 01:34 AM (GMT)
Just as a recap...so there's gonna be three games, all collectively called Fabula Nova Crystallis FXiii:
Part 1, FFXiii Agito, a prequel for the cellphone
Part 2, FFXiii, for PS3
Part 2, FF versus Xiii...a sequel (or was that an alternate universe storyline?) for PS3
Is that right?
I know what you mean about the girl, she looks sort of...man-ish, though as Andina said, I'm glad she's not bursting out of her clothes this time
Mmmm...that guy looks like a long lost brother of the SHM :D
Meh...it'll be a long time before I get to play it anyway. PS3...
Materia Thief - May 10, 2006 01:41 AM (GMT)
I--uhh, what?
I am reminded of so many franchises when I watch this, it's SAD. >_<;
Girl's looks: Ashe with a little Yuna (X-2).
Girl's Moves: Tifa (AC fight VS Loz) and Vincent (yeah, that shooting gun whine spinning in air move?)
Girl's Weapon: Gunblade (FF8) or Velvet Nightmare (Yazoo's Gun from AC)
Guy (Versus) Weapon Move: Omnislash (AC)
I noticed the stormtrooper too. >_>;
I am happy that we're having what appears to be a female lead however. And *moment of shallowness* the guy (?) from Versus is very good looking. XD
Amano's title designs are gorgeous, I must say. :]

There was a rumour going around in my lecture class yesterday that FFXIII would be taking place in the FFVIII timeline - as in XXXyears after FF8 or something like that.
When I heard it, I dropped to my knees and prayed hard that it was false.
...Look at the bottom of that scan. It says Final Fantasy VIII.
WHY!! WHYYYYY!!! NOOOOOOO~!!!!!
*goes to hide away and draw emo circles on the floor*
EDIT : Well, of all the donkeys! I just realized that it probably says Final Fantasy XIII and not VIII, seeing how it's cut off halfway. AH, my heart is saved!!! *breathes sigh of relief*
But anyways, thank you for the new scans, Aerith-Kun! Wow, that heroine really reminds me of Ashe in the first picture, with the princessy-like throne an' all... :o
Key - May 10, 2006 07:07 PM (GMT)
A female heroine.<3
Everyone looks so intensely... sexy? Hope the storyline's nothing to scoff at as well.
Evenstar - May 10, 2006 11:07 PM (GMT)
Wow! Nomura making unusual colored-haired characters. Nice change. ;) Call me weird, but I didn't realize that the girl's hair was pink until I saw the scan of her sitting down. :P
Sephiroth's_girl - May 11, 2006 12:31 AM (GMT)
I kinda see a red brownish blonde kind like strawberry! And Yuna wasn't an orginal lead in my book cuz that game shouldn't be counted as Final Fantasy, maybe a Final Fantasy knock-off.
Cetra_Aerith - May 11, 2006 02:25 AM (GMT)
You can see an interview with Kitase on E3 about FFXIII
heremind anyone tell me if XII was the project left to get the tech demo for VII?!?!
FF_Goddess - May 11, 2006 03:02 AM (GMT)
Um, didn't we already have a "brooding female lead" in FFXII with Ashe? <_< Anyways, she looks really cool with that pink hair. I like that Nomura is using unusual colors for hair. And that guy with the blue hair and red eyes looks pretty awesome, kind of like a short-haired Vincent. :D Although, in the newer pic, his hair looks silver...
Anyways, I've been hearing that FFXIII is nearly completed! :swoon: Guess I'll be buying a PS3 sooner than I thought...
Seriously, though, I am not liking the whole sci-fi look of this one. I mean, it's Final Fantasy, not Final Sci-Fi. I would much prefer a fantasy-based world with limited technology.
Sephiroth's_girl - May 11, 2006 03:04 AM (GMT)
You have to admit that FF8 and FF7 rocked so hard with their take on the modern world.
(and I think Vaan was the main character of 12)

I completely agree with you, FF_G. I'm quite disappointed with the whole Sci-Fi based world of this game. Also, SE's lack of creativity with the heroine's design irritates me. Ashe and Vaan didn't interest me, and I was looking forward to something new and fresh. However, it seems we'll be getting another Ashe in this game. The guy seems interesting enough though, I'll have to admit. There's something dark and mysterious about him.

It's actually the reason why FF8 is one of my least favorite FF games. It's too modern for my taste. FFVII was interesting though. Although Midgard was a city full of technology, I thought there were also elements of fantasy mixed in. The villages are a good example. You also have to remember that the subtleness of FFVII's story is what has been keeping the fans interested. The characters of FFVII are very well-designed as well, yes? Maybe it's just me, but I highly doubt the success of FFVII was specifically due to its modern-like world. For me, if FFXIII's storyline and music are as terrific as VII's, it'll probably make up for SE's lack of creativity in the heroine's design and the science fiction-like world. Who knows, I may still enjoy this game afterall. *crosses fingers*
Final Fantasy IX's world is still my favorite out of the latest games in the series. Love the whole kingdoms, villages, chocobos, and flying boats theme! :lust:
That's how Final Fantasy use to be...up until VII, of course.
Evenstar - May 11, 2006 04:24 AM (GMT)
Yeah, the whole Sci-Fi thing is a bit of a turn-off for me. If S-E wanted to make a sci-fi game, go ahead! Just don't put the label 'Final Fantasy' on it just so you could get more cash! <_<
I mean, FFVII looked modern with all the cars, motorbikes and big corporations... but like HD said, it retained a sort of fantasy element to it. FFVIII was the most sci-fi FF game I've played and though it did have sorceresses there, it wasn't enough to give me a whole fantasy feel to it... :/

Hehe, the first time I saw a screenshot of the lead character, I swear thought I was looking at Ashe! Nomura's artworks are good, but they're not very original. I mean, I even thought that the blue-haired, red-eyed boy looked like Kadaj's long-lost brother. Though, I'm more interested in the guy more than the girl.
yin-chan - May 11, 2006 04:34 AM (GMT)
Oh, agreed FF_G and H_D. You guys plucked the words out of my mouth!
The only thing I like about this heroine now is her pink hair. :giggle:
I don't like the fact that she looks so broody. I'm a fan of the typical cheerful white mage heroines. I can see this heroine building up a whole new legion of fanboys where the only kick-ass chicks must be able to wield a gun and sword and do flips in mid-air. *sigh* And all the white mages and 'feminine' girls will be pushed into the background and picked on for being 'wimpy'. >_< *head explodes*
For now I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she'll have a good enough storyline and personality to capture muh interest and fangirl heart!
And the sc-fi world is a bit of a turn-off. I didn't find FF8 all that modern, probably only Esthar - but it was of course more modern than FF7 - but still not too bad, I guess. At least we still had the little towns and chocobos and whatnot. I haven't played FF12, but is it more sci-fi than FF8? And what's all this about technology and magic having been merged? Ah well, I suppose we'll find out soon enough.

Wikipedia: As a genre, fantasy is both associated with and contrasted with science fiction and horror fiction.
But I'm just goofing off. :P I agree about being disappointed by the lack of the 'magical' aspect in the screenshots, but I'll try not to write the game off until it actually comes out. Perhaps there'll be a nice, surprising fusion of the two (and in the meantime, I'd also like to wish for a Ferrari and Brad Pitt on my lap).

Well, on one hand, I do like the mere fact that we're getting more female leads in FF after a slew of guys.
I don't mind the whole angsty-female-main-character bit, since I think it's a nice change from the previous happy-main-female/brooding-supporting-female arrangement. The fact that Nomura's involved in it is a good sign, since all his previous FFs adopted the rinse-and-reuse idea when it came to the female characters.
And after about four games of such characters (FFVII - FFX), I think I'll excuse FFXIII for reusing FFXII's idea and creating "another Ashe".
But I agree with yin-chan about the whole white mage = wimpy thing. >_< This perpetrates the idea that a girl isn't "kick-ass" and worthy as a character unless she's some unholy combination of Lara Croft and BloodRayne. It's mostly the drooling fanboys to blame for that, but still...

Well, flying ships are pre-dominant (and dare I say it? The advance technology) in Ivalice. But the cities doesn't feel futuristic for me. Heck 80% of the game the party goes from points A to B on foot (which kinda reminds me of FFX when they got the ship after everything else was done).
IMHO, FFVIII was more hi-tech than XII.
