Description: Ladies only!!!!

This topic is coming off of my other topic
Im Not a Little Kid Anymore and Im in need of advice again! So ladies, please help me out here
If you're a boy please dont reply. No offense, but I dont think this is your kind of thing :ermm: One day my mom all of a sudden came to me and started talking to me about Birth Control pills. Now this is the first time Ive ever heard of birth control pills so...Anyway, my mom's going at me like "You know, if you're thinking about messing around with some boys and thinking about having sex, even though you SHOULDN'T, at least try to take birth control pills."
Well, I told her I would but not for that reason. I talked to my school nurse and she told me that birth control pills also help out with menstual crampings. Im really stressing out about taking these becuase of these side effects. Like severe bleeding, vommiting, etc.
And now I already started taking them and I'm afraid that I cant stop. But let me ask you something....Do you think birth control pills REALLY prevent you from getting pregnant?
I know everyone's bodies are different, but this is just in general.

This post talks a lot about periods, so if you're a boy, you might not want to read.
I didn't vote because I've never taken the pill before, so I didn't want to give a wrong answer if there is one. But here's what I know about the pill. As far as cramps go, the pill probably will help. I know it for regulating your period. The pill puts you on a rigid cycle, and you know exactly when you will get your period. If you happen to have a heavy period, the pill usually can correct that so you're bleeding is more normal. If you take it everyday at the same time, then the chances of having side effects are pretty slim. If you forget to take it too many times, there's the risk that you're next period will be heavy. My friend was on the pill, and she forgot to take it a whole bunch of times. She got her period for two straight weeks because of it. But as long as you take it at the right time, I'm fairly sure that the side effects won't bother you.
As far as pregnancy goes, the pill is 99.9% effective. That means that your normal chances of getting pregnant become .1%. It's the most effective form of birth control, compared to the next best thing-- condoms which are 98% effective when used properly. However, the only 100% effective way to not get pregnant is simply to not have sex. Also, the pill (unlike condoms) doesn't protect against any STDs.
I hope that helps. Like I said, I haven't taken the pill myself (since my mom might call me a whore and throw me out of the house if I ever asked for it), but that's pretty much what I know about it from my friends who are on it.

Its okay if your wrong. I really want your opinion too. And from the way you sound, it sounds like a yes. Well, thats good that birth control pills have a good percentage of not getting pregnant. I think thats why some girls are taking them anyway.
And why would your mom throw you out and call you a whore for bringing up birth control pills? I mean, aren't moms the ones who tallm to you about birth control pills just for safety?
Im really concerned about all the side effects :ermm:............But thanks for you response :gift:. Sometimes I wish I really didn't have to take these...

I exaggerate when i say she would throw me out and call me a whore. :lmao: No, actually she told me at a very young age that if I ever get pregnant, she won't be upset, and if I ever were to have sex (even though she insists I shouldn't), I should use protection. It's just that lately all I've been hearing is the "don't have sex" side of her rants because I've been going out with the same guy for a year and a half, so she suspects things.
I'm pretty surprised your mom is making you take them. I guess she just wants you to be safe. But if you're really that upset by it, have you tried telling her how you don't want to take it? I don't think you need to worry about the side effects if you take it properly since I haven't heard about any otherwise frlom those I know who are on it.

i was supposed to start birth control pills like 3 years ago when i was 12, but i didnt go on it cuz i was too young. then i got an ovarial cyst, so i was supposed to go on it, but my mom didn't want me to. then i found out i didnt have a cyst, just some major cramps, but im having irregluar periods, but then i was supposed to go on it again, but never did. i still may in the future, if i dont go regular soon. my dads a doctor and he said it may affect your pregnancies in the future, but somehow i dont believe that, idk why...anyways, my doctor told me that, the pills do stop cramps, but its not a 100% guarentee that youre not going to get preganant if you have sex. and it does not protect you from STDs and things like that. it does regulate your periods and i think, (dont quote me on this) it slows down the blood flow, and it also makes your period last for a shorter amount of time.
idk why im not on the pill, cuz i am supposed to be. but i might go on it soon.
Maiden - May 5, 2006 10:42 PM (GMT)
I was on them once but they don't keep you from getting pregnate cause my mom was on them before I was born and I'm here so they are NOT! 100% effective ;)
As for periods it worked but not much *spoilered just so a guy can't read* :P ----> i'm on the period now and I got horrable cramps
Dark Angel - May 7, 2006 04:30 AM (GMT)
my friend just starting using them and she started today, and she said they work beautifully. not so much heavy bleeding, and less cramps. i guess it might be different for everyone.
this is kind of off topic, but its about periods. i have a question, ive been irregular ever since i started, and i know youll be irregular like the first two years, but its been almost 4 years i think, and my friend says its normal, but my mom said it shouldnt last for more than a year and when i was like 13 thats what my doc said. i also get a lot of clots, so is there, like something wrong?

I have tried telling her that I dont want to take birth control pills but its like now I cant stop . Ive been sick so many times because of the side effects of the birth control pills that I have become used to them.

Forgive me for qotuing Dark Angel but I didn't read that "dont quote me on this" part until now . But you're right about everyting you said. It doesn't protect you form STD's and other diseases, and doesn't 100% protect from birth control pills. But thanks for telling me though.

Well, really thats what this thread is for. (I wish some of the Admins would lock this topic or something from the boys) You can pm me if you really want to talk about this.
Tacofoolio - May 9, 2006 07:19 PM (GMT)
Here's a tip if it's making you feel sick, take em at night, I end up getting sick if I have them before a meal and stuff, so I take them right before going to sleep. They've worked for me so far, no babies yet, lol. And it does help with the other problems mentioned in here, at least in my case.

Well, there's not really any way we can do that, Carmen. Besides, I'm sure that the guys on this forum either won't be interested in reading this topic, or they'll just be curious. Don't worry, they're mature enough to handle a little period talk. ^_^

| Do you think birth control pills REALLY prevent you from getting pregnant? |
Basically, the way the Pill works is by stopping you ovulating - if you don't produce an egg, then you can't get pregnant. It also thickens the mucus around your cervix so sperm find it more difficult to get into the uterus. But you have to make sure you take it every day without fail if you're gonna use it by itself. One of my friends was on the Pill and still got pregnant because she had a hangover and was sick in the morning after she'd taken her day's Pill, so it came straight back up. She didn't realise until she was already a couple of weeks pregnant. Also, things like antibiotics can affect the Pill's perfomance, so it's best not to take them along with any other medication.
And like other people have said, the Pill doesn't protect you against any STIs, only barrier methods of contraception do.
I'd say the best way to avoid getting pregnant would be to use a condom as well, just to be extra safe.

But here's another thing. I know hopw you're supposed to taking them every day at the same time, but what happens if you forget? Doesn't thast mean you'll have to tkae them twice? And what happens if you miss them more than twice? Thats where I have the feeling of taking too many pills and causing side effects. I can easily forget to stay on track when it comes to birth control.

True. But in my opinion, the best way not to get pregnant is by not having sex. But some people find that possible because they feel that sex is part of everyday life <_< .

All I've heard about birth control is good stuff, but you shouldn't go on the pill unless you NEED to. If you intend to start having sex, by all means, if you're having unhealthy and irregular periods you need to, but unless you're in one of those two situations just let your body do its own thing

Well, taking birth control pills would be the reason I want to take them. But taking them in case if Im ready to have sex, which I highly doubt, is my mother's reason for taking them.
And I would let my body do its own things its jsut that sometimes its gives me weird signs. Like, 2 weeks ago, I had finished my period. But its like 3 days later Im bleeding all over again fro 2 days straight. Now I know Im taking birth control pills for my irregular periods and especially the menstual cramping, but Ive never had a severe bleeding problem. This use to happen many times before I started taking the pills after I had my other periods.
Well, my mom's telling me two things:
1. It could be stress
or
2. It could be harmones
About the first issue, I was only on stress at the time I was worrying about future plans which wasn't too long ago. I was stressed out THEN, not NOW. So Im thinking that cant be it.
And as for harmones, well, I dont realy know what to say about that because the only time I think about harmones is when Im horny . And that rarely happens. So I dont think its that either <_< ...What could it be?
Sefie - May 12, 2006 09:59 PM (GMT)
The irregular bleeding? Nothing to worry about. Everybody's body does that. Lots of women continue to wear a pad or tampon for several days after the bleeding appears to have stopped. I'm not exactly one to talk about healthy periods from my own experience, but I've had enough child development and human bio classes to know a bit about it.
As for the hormones, all they can really do is affect your moods and level of horniness. Heh, I go into heat, but at the same time become a PMS MONSTER. My married life should be fun :D

Heh heh. Hope you have a good time! :giggle:...
Umm, here's another question. I also heard of a type of Birth Control Shot that works the same way as the pills. But if I were to take the shot instead of the pills, how do I know when Im supposed to get another shot or something? Its not like I can just go to the doctor everyday and get a shot right?

Haha, yeah, sorry for the TMI. But hey, now you know. Okay, if you miss it more than twice, then see your doctor 'cause you might need to double up on pills. If you just forget one or two pills, then take them as soon as you remember.

The contraceptive injection does work the same way as the Pill, but it lasts much longer. There are two types, one lasts about eight weeks and the other lasts about twelve. If you choose this method, your doctor would most likely book you another appointment for your next injection.

Perhaps I should have told my mother about wanting to take the shot instead. I just dont like taking pilss. But I dont like shots either . How many times must you see the doctor to recieve the shot?
Oh and another thing! Will drinking carbohydrated drinks and light-acholic beverages ruin the process of the pills or the shot? (Not saying that I drink..:ermm:)
Sarah - May 24, 2006 06:22 PM (GMT)
I use to have the pill, But i find them annoying i use to forget to take it when i finally got on track they are great there not a 100% effect so always have extra protection.
i dont reccormend pills because sometimes you get side effects like heavy bleeding
bloating
the injection is better
or as i call it the magic rod (its lie a rod they put in your arm its small painless and doesnt leave a scare if your young talk to your parents about it. but its really effective no stressing over taking pills and stuff.)
birth control is nothing to worry about id rather take a small pill then be holding a bundle of joy!

See, I knew there were side effects involved. And now Im really scared...
I went to the doctors office two days ago because I had a funny bump growing on my wrist and its been sitting there for 2 1/2 months. They told me to take medicine for it, but thats when I forgot I was on Birth Control Pills. The medicine I was taking was Advil, and I think it was interfering with the process of pills.
And it was like, then I started getting sick and breaking out all over. The next thing I knew, I was throwing up all over the place and I had thrown up blood.....Im really worrying now....
And for some reason my mother's taking back to the doctor to be tested for a bowel movement (Not sure if I spelled it right, but I hope you knwo what im trying to say)....What is that exactly?
Athena/Fuijin - September 26, 2006 01:50 PM (GMT)
I used be in a lot of pain during my period. My doctor said I could try birth control pills because it would stop the pain (well a little). It helped me a lot,but it took me a while to find the best pills for me.
