This is my first cleris fanfiction. I tried to make it seem somewhat realistic to what Cloud would act like. I hope I did a good job and I hope you like it. Enjoy! It's a bit dark too, so yeah... ^__________^

An Unforgotten Love

Cloud jumped up in suprise, clutching his sheets.  His blue eyes were wide with fear, and his cheeks were paler than usual, as if the life had been sucked right out of him.  He panted, trying to catch his breath, but was in too much of frantic state to even consider calming down.  Sweat trickled down his face and made little wet droplets on his sheets.  He felt his heart beat against his bare chest, and he removed one of his hands from the sheets and moved it to his heart.  It was then that he realized that it had only been a dream, no not a dream.  A constant nightmare that haunted his very core.  Or was it a mix of both?  Aeris.  A name that gave him comfort, yet made him crumble.  To think that she would never again smile, laugh, or get angry.  Never look at him with those beautiful eyes that only dimmed when Sephiroth took her life.  "Damn it, Sephiroth.  Even when I defeated you, you still won..." he whispered to himself sadly.
Cloud knew, he always knew, even with Sephiroth dead she wasn't coming back.  There was no magic fairy godmother that was going to come and make all his dreams come true.  There was no such thing as happy endings.  What was the point of saving the world when in the end he couldn't even save the one person who gave him hope?  Aeris had made his world seem less dark, made him feel as if his life had meaning.  She never got mad at him, even when he had struck her down in the Temple of the Ancients.  Aeris...she always had a smile for him.
Cloud sighed to himself, and slowly got out of bed.  He had been staying in the Kalm hotel for awhile now, not wanting to face Midgar just yet.  It brought back too many memories.  He shuffled over to the window and looked outside.  The stars shone brightly in the night sky, but the cresent moon was the brightest of them all.  His golden hair shone in the moonlight, and his facial feautures seemed to glow.  Cloud looked at the moon pathetically and imagined Aeris sitting on it playfully, laughing happily, and reaching out a hand for him to join her.  He reached out to the moon, but soon withdrew his hand, shaking his head to snap himself out of his own illusion.  Cloud forced himself to turn away from the sky, and instead sat down on his bed once more and put his head in his hands.  A single tear dripped down his face, and hit the floor.  Cloud had not cried since the day it had happened, the day she left him with a final smile and a broken heart.  He clenched his teeth, and asked softly, "Why can't I just forget you?"
He looked to the sky once more as if searching for some angel to come down from heaven and give him an answer.  But no one came, and Cloud lowered his head in defeat.  He eventually stood up and walked about the room.  Blankly, he stared at a wall, and in his ultimate frustration, punched a hole through it.  He held in the tears that were fighting to come out, his whole body trembling in an attempt to hold them back.  His lower lip quivered, and he felt his knees going.  He wouldn't collapse...he...wouldn't...  And soon it was too late.  In his sadness, Cloud began punching more walls while crying, and screaming, "WHY DID YOU HAVE TO GO?  DAMN IT!  YOU...You weren't supposed to die like that...."
Weakly, Cloud punched the wall again, and stood there panting.  As he looked around the room, he took in the damage he had done.  Various holes had appeared in the walls, and he sighed knowing he was going to have to pay for the damages.  He punched one final wall, and screamed, "SHIT!"
He groaned, and jumped on his bed, covering his face in his pillow.  He kept muttering curse words into the pillow, his sorrow slowly turning into rage.  His own sorrow began to control his every movement, every thought he held in his head.  Slowly, Cloud was losing his grip on his own heart.  He needed Aeris to smile one more time, he needed his unforgotten love...
