Y'know the voice that Cloud hears throughout FFVII? The one that informs him it's not a normal reactor, and says the thing about skinned knees. Who IS that?

It's himself. If you go into a certain room in the Honeybee Inn, Cloud meets a transparent image of himself. That's the voice that talks through him throughout the game.

Why does that happen anyway? I never really understood that concept pretty well... <_< Could somebody explain? I'd really appreciate it. :(

Hmmmm, well, if it's himself then it's the part of him that remembers, right? The "real Cloud" as the CloTi's call it. "Back then you only got skinned knees" refering to him and Tifa falling off the bridge, etc etc
But how does that part of him know it's not an ordinary reactor?

Well, there *is* a problem of who is the "real Cloud" in the game, but it's not a problem of whether Cloud is himself or Zack. The problem of "the real Cloud" was stated by Sephiroth in the Mt. Nibel reactor before the Reunion:

Sephiroth "Ha, ha, ha......" "I want to take you back to your real self." "The one who gave me the Black Materia that day..." "Who would have ever thought a failed experiment would prove so useful?" "Hojo would die if he knew."
Cloud "Hojo!? What does he have to do with me!?"
Sephiroth "Five years ago you were..." "...constructed by Hojo, piece by piece, right after Nibelheim was burnt." "A puppet made up of vibrant Jenova cells, her knowledge, and the power of Mako." "An incomplete Sephiroth-clone. Not even given a number. ...That is your reality."

Sephiroth convinces Cloud before the Reunion that he is nothing but a failed experiment of Hojo's. THAT's the identity crisis that Cloud has to resolve during the Lifestream Event. He has to figure out whether he is a failed experiment of Hojo's or whether he was actually born and raised in Nibelheim.

Cloud stopped believing in himself at that time because Sephiroth manipulated him into believing that he had been produced by Hojo. Cloud's real self was there all the time, but the experimentation done on him was fighting against it. His real self remembered the skinned knees, remembered what his mother said to him about having an older girlfriend, remembered that Nibelheim had been burned to the ground, etc. The experimentation done on him forced him to obey Sephiroth's commands, such as when he gave the black materia to Sephiroth. But Cloud's real self was there all along.

The confusion wasn't whether he had become Zack or not. The confusion was who the real Cloud was: a product of Hojo's experimentation (a Sephiroth clone), or the Cloud born in Nibelheim.

The real Cloud was at the Nibelheim Event and spent five years in captivity with Zack. There's no way that Cloud was in the Mako tubes for five years, coz it woulda killed him. He and Zack most likely had an opportunity to talk with one another during five years of captivity, and it was even shown that they communicated with one another to break out of the lab at feeding time by scratching on the beakers. Another thing is that Zack most likely told the other Shinra troops with him what had happened in the Mt. Nibel reactor when Sephiroth flipped out. Zack had ordered one of the guards to watch the entrance to the basement where Sephiroth had gone, and that guard reported to Zack. That would indicate that Zack had reported what had happened in the reactor to the Shinra troops with him. That informtion would let Cloud know what the reactors were actually being used for, at least at Nibelheim. His "real self" may have assumed that all reactors were being used for the same purpose. Either that, or he confused it with the reactor in Nibelheim.

Ooooohhh... I see. I was kind of confused of that too... second time I played the game, I thought the voice was Sephiroth.

I've also been thinking about the voice and the person who speaks it...I kinda thought it was Cloud himself but wasn't quite sure...I also suspected it to be Sephiroth, but no..it's Cloud :)

I did kinda have an idea it was Cloud, why i didn't know til a couple of years ago.

I thought it was jenova......and then I was debating into wethr it was it or his "real self" (prtrayed by Cloud being a kid) like when he appeared in the temple of the ancients where he started pummeling Aerith :cry:

because when jenova told him "Because you're a puppet" I thought it was her always talking....also in junon when he's sleeping and the "voice" questions him about the events on nibelheim 5 years ago.... I thought that was jenova too....could it be that at some points it's Cloud and at others it's jenova? :/

ITs not that voice that bothers Leon...Leon wonder WHO'S voice it is to tell Tifa to run to the edge of the cannon!?

I was wondering...were they talking about Sephiroth or Cloud?

I belibve it was the Mayor that was speaking. Him or President Shinra. I can't recall which.

Anyway, the prophecy speaks specifically of the person having blue eyes and having a sword of their back. Sephiroth's eyes are green and we never see him with his sword strapped across his back.

SO it WAS CLoud.....
